Iron Man

I wouldn’t classify myself as a diehard Marvel fan, there’s been quite a few of the movies I’ve skipped. It’s not that I had anything against them, I just wasn’t interested. I may be suffering a from a bit of super hero fatigue, but I’m also perfectly fine with it. Some of the characters just don’t grab me, but one that does, and one of the movies that absolutely nailed it, was the first Iron Man. While I wasn’t a big comic reader as a kid, I was a Spiderman and Iron Man fan, and I’ll admit I was really skeptical when they announced it. But I loved it, still do, so this excellent sculpture of Iron Man by Aaron Brick Designer instantly had my attention.

Rock On Slash, Rock On.

If you’re a fan of rock I’m guessing the moment you saw this picture of Slash you heard the opening riff of “Sweet child of mine” in your head. Builder LEGO 7 crafted this excellent figure of Guns N’ Roses’ iconic lead guitarist and he’s absolutely rockin’.

I'll Drink To That

It’s still early September, but don’t bother pointing it out to this couple crafted by Miro78. He’s wearing lederhosen and holding a pint, she’s wearing a dirndl and holding a pretzel, and they’re no doubt listening to some fabulous oom pah pah music as they celebrate Oktoberfest. Coincidentally, I made bavarian style pretzels just last night (no really, I posted a pic on Facebook).

Micro Moo Moo Farm

Fans of the classic Nintendo racing game Mario Kart might recognize this, it’s the Moo Moo Farm! Builder and Twitch streamer BrickinNick crafted this little micro scale beauty live on air. While it’s not the complete track, you can see all the signature items, cows grazing, classic barn, and those stupid moles! You can catch Nick every week Sunday through Thursday his Twitch channel.

Smug Mug

I don’t know what it is about this mech by Markus Rollbühler, but it has had me grinning ear to ear ever since I first laid my eyes on it. Maybe it’s the smug yet whimsical look on the classic yellow mini-figure, or maybe it’s just the thought of being even lazier when getting a hot beverage in the morning. But in the end, we all know that the reason why this mech has me grinning is because it resembles the cute and not at all creepy character from Toy Story: Babyface.

Hobson

Builder Paddy Bricksplitter describes Hobson here at a “Faithful robotic butler to the idle rich” so I can say with complete confidence you will never see him at my house. Not that I am not rich, it’s just that I’m never idle…and I’m not rich. But he does seem very proper, well dressed and goes about his tasks with a certain panache, which I can appreciate.

Gamer Levels Up In The Face Of Adversity

Despite overwhelming odds, gamer Zach Bishop has managed to complete several levels of his game and advanced to level 68. While the importance of hygiene and sustenance are acknowledged, priorities must be set. Or in the words of Zach “yeah, whatever”. Yes, the threat of unloading the dishwasher proved to be a momentary distraction, but with concentration and perseverance, that too was overlooked. And while room cleaning and laundry loom large another threat could prove to be his downfall, sleep. We understand efforts are underway to thwart this however, with the discovery of a half consumed Rockstar discovered behind the monitor.

In A Hole In The Ground There Lived A Hobbit...

With all the absolute insanity in the world I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to live in the Shire more than I do at this very moment. I know it’s a fictional place, but it’s so peaceful and perfect my heart aches for it. Builders Jake Hansen and Cole Blood have crafted an idyllic place I want to be, even if it’s just to park my Airstream for a couple weeks.

When tasked with giving an Overwatch hero a brick junker makeover, builder curtydc decided on Reinhardt, and the results are a compelling mix of Overwatch and Mad Max. I’ve never played the game, but it would seem this guy has a beef with Omnics, which makes me glad I’m not an Omnic.

Please Dress Appropriately for Tonight’s Invasion

This is one of those pieces that got me with the shear whimsy of it.  I’m sure Umbra-Manis is not the first person to pun on “TIE” in this manor, but did so in a way that brought a big smile to my face on a day when I needed it. The use of the wavy castle flags (4495) for intakes is clever, as they are uncommon in sci-fi builds and adds a bit of a cloth like texture to the bowtie. Next time you need your star fighters to be dressed to impress, Umbra-Manis’ Osiris Fleet Systems are the folks to call.

Movie Stunt

I don’t know how I missed this incredible action shot from Pixeljunkie months ago, but it’s never too late. I know I work on movies and should be all jaded by now, but my love of all things film runs deep, and shots like this make my heart go pitter patter. I will say that crew is in significant danger and the stunt coordinator is going to get a little visit by the studio and the union though.

Where'd All The Ice Go?

If there’s a more poignant image of the pending global predicament we’ve managed to heap upon ourselves I don’t know what it is (besides most of the Jersey Shore under water maybe, stay tuned). I live about 100 feet above sea level, and when I bought this home 20 years ago I didn’t think it may become beach front property some day (ok, it won’t, but I’m lucky I live 11 miles from the beach). The king of cars is back! After a nearly two year hiatus, builder Lino M is back, and back with a vengeance. Check out this badass version of the Volkswagen Käfer Racer, a Hotwheels classic. It’s part beetle, part dragster and all speed.

Start Your Hyrule Morning Off Right!

With a delicious bowl of KakarikO’s thanks to the endless creativity of Julius von Brunk. A warning though, it may be a bit unsettling for the hardcore Zelda fans to see Link so…loquacious, but it’s funny and charming and it was a ton of work. Watch the video below.

P-65 Tomahawk

The king of sky-fi and air superiority Jon Hall is back with another aviation treat. This is the P-65 Tomahawk, part Corsair, part Bussard and all badass. I can just imagine the sound of one of these, it’s single prop slicing through the air as it’s engine roared. I can also imagine a whole sortie of these, it would be awe inspiring.

JFK 1 Mechanoid

Check out this bad boy from builder Marco Marozzi. I don’t know if mechanized combat like this is in our future, but it seems pretty inevitable. After all, if you look around today, it’s all the technology we dreamed of in the mid century (and way beyond in some aspects). I know one thing though, the battlefields of the future will be pretty terrifying.

The Wanderer

Builder Eero Okkonen is back with a ravishingly lovely figure from Magic the Gathering. This is the Wanderer, who according to Eero is “a mysterious individual with a habit of planeswalking from world to world slaying monsters and enemies with her decently-sized sword.”

Tennis, Anyone?

The world of sports is filled with legendary venues: Fenway Park, Lambeau Field, The Brickyard, The Palestra, and this place; Centre Court at Wimbledon. My old pal Dave Kaleta was commissioned to build this venerable arena and ship it to the UK. Somehow it survived intact, considering all the nifty, irregular connections. Nicely done, Dave- it’s a real home run! Oh, wait…

This MOC Measures Up (See What I Did There?)

This was another one of those “almost scrolled right past it because of the thumbnail” moments. Builder Attacki Works crafted this incremented wonder to exact specs, making it so realistic I barely gave it a glance. Then I thought “why would anyone take a picture of a ruler?” Unfortunately it’s not much good for measuring small stuff, because it’s over six feet long!

How We Used To Compute

Back when I was a young child, this is what computers looked like. I was in high school before they started showing up at everyone’s house. The incredible thing is, that phone in your pocket probably has more computing power and storage than this entire room (or one that this room represents, let’s face it this one is full of plastic toys).
