Bauspielbahn-Treffen 2021 LEGO Train Event

After a year of lockdown and canceled AFOL events, it is encouraging to see a few events beginning to take place. In particular, a LEGO train fan event (Bauspielbahn-Treffen 2021) was held in a charming old tram depot in Schkeuditz (near Leipzig), Germany during the August 13-15, 2021 weekend.
Featuring 60 exhibitors from 7 countries, a massive interconnected collaborative layout was built from the contributions of some of this hobby’s most accomplished and talented builders. Spanning an area of approximately 700 sq. meters, this layout features stations, yards, bridges, and a massive collection of rolling stock.
This collaborative layout represents the very best, not only in terms of its stunning models but also the spirit of community which exists among this hobby’s passionate builders. As a community, we can collectively showcase just how far this hobby has progressed—not just in terms of the inspirational size and scale of this layout, but also the level of quality, detail, and prototypical realism. We see layouts which embrace the same craftsmanship and artistic flair as any other traditional non-LEGO model railway.

Last but not least, one of my favourite layouts of all-time! Maciej Drwięga’s stunning Polish layout shows us just how far the LEGO train hobby has progressed—a scale model railway with realism, detail, and craftsmanship no different to other traditional model train scales.
