A Study In 1701

Over 40 years passed between designs for the original USS Enterprise for the classic Star Trek series and JJ Abrams movies, but the basic design stayed the same. Builder Riskjockey gives us a side by side comparison of old and new. And while the original was very simplistic by today's standards, it was cutting edge for the time. Yes, the sets were low budget and boxy way back then, but the new one has an engineering section the looks an awful lot like a brewery.

Boldly Going

Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and to boldly go where no man has gone before. I didn't intend to do two Star Trek posts in a row, especially since ST MOCs aren't all that common. But this showed up in my feed this morning, and it's been a while since I waxed nostalgic so here it is, the original crew of USS Enterprise by rionz.

Runabout

As you stir from your nap in your quarters you hear a chime from your communications panel. An alert from the head of security flashes on your screen.

>Open Message

The panel flickers to life and a message from lieutenant Marshal Higgins appears. "You have been selected for an away team at 1600 hours to the nearby moon. Please report to shuttle bay 06".

>Check Time

The current time is 15:47 Standard Galactic Time

>Get dressed

You open your dresser panel by pressing a button on the wall. With a pneumatic hiss your wardrobe extends into the room. Standard Starfeet uniforms, neatly clean and pressed, swing gently on the bar above.

>Get red shirt

Spock & Uhura

Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and to the future. These figures were at my very first convention, BrickCon 2009. It also happened to be Ochre Jelly's first convention, and we stuck up a friendship that continues to this day (despite the fact that he's 3/4 clinically insane). Spock and Uhura typify his building style, and are just as awesome today as they were the first time I laid eyes on them.

Qach Batlh!

OK, tell the truth, you glanced at this pic and thought for one fleeting, optimistic moment it might be an official UCS set didn't you?  This is a seriously big, beautiful ship from ~The Steads~. I really wish LEGO would have gotten the rights to Star Trek, instead of a certain other brand of bricks. Maybe then we would have gotten something this cool.

Boldly Going...

BrickNerd_MOCstalgia.jpg

Here at BrickNerd we like to look back, and sometimes to the future. This is an ensemble I built last year. It all started with the phaser, which I built for a friend who was going off to work on the next Star Trek movie. I liked it so much I built one for myself. Then I decided I needed some other props to go with it. The tricorder lights up with the help of some carefully built-in Lifelites.

This is actually the first time I've blogged any of my own MOCs, and to be honest it feels a little weird. Is it cool to post my own stuff? Comment and let me know.
