This truck is geared up and ready for a fight! JBIronworks crafted this incredible military vehicle with so many details jam packed into one model. The windows are well incorporated into the sleek design of the front of this vehicle, and the roof-mounted gun has some interesting parts use! I for one would hate to run into this truck on the road... You must take a closer look at all the details here! Surely an awesome vehicle that I'd love to drive around town.

Imperial Presence Over Jedha City

Marshal Banana has returned with yet another wonderful LEGO creation, and an incredible scene and image surrounding it. I'm already hearing the music from this scene in my head. It's difficult to judge the exact scale of this Star Destroyer. Though it's clearly not minifigure scale, it's still super impressive. What completes this scene is the recreation of the outer wall of the religious city of Jedha. I can't wait to learn more about this planet in the future! What an inspiring shot by an awesome MOC builder!

The Tiniest Robots in Disguise You Will Ever See

There are mixed reviews and opinions about the latest Transformers movie, but there certainly can be no mixed reviews of this tiny Optimus Prime and Bumblebee! Consistent of so few pieces, these little guys will make any old Transformers fan squeal. There isn't much I can say, simply because the image you see before you speaks to all Transformers fans in volumes. One thing that I do have to point out, which is possibly one of the best uses for brick separators I have ever seen. . .  Wonderful job, Grantmasters!

Pour the Tar!

This medieval scene by Graham Gidman is everything you could want in a vignette. The Summer Joust 2017 medieval building contest is challenging its participants to create a captivating scene on an 8x8 stud base, with minimal overhang. There has been a steady flow of submissions for the category, but this one made me stop and look more than any other. Not only is it just a plain good scene, but its design is executed very well by Graham. There's emotion captured by the minifigures, the action is clear and amusing, and there's just the right amount of detailing here to really make you feel that it's part of something bigger. I also appreciate how the rock formations aren't built in a simple way, rather they have just the right amount of angling to look organic and disturbed. A small build that speaks volumes, for sure!

Technique Tuesday - Gothic Text Galore!

One of the best things about the LEGO community is that we can learn from one another.  Here at BrickNerd, we like to share techniques that we see from builders all around the world. . .

This week, we're making you read. Well, I suppose you already are doing that, huh? Lisqr has developed this awesome Gothic font style out of some new LEGO elements. It truly can be deceiving when looking at it -- sometimes it does not even appear to be our favorite plastic bricks in the slightest. The style of the letters is so creative, and really well done. I wish I could type any and all of my assignments in this font...

Jumpspeeder

LEGO itself has released many of their own Imperial speeder bikes, but that does not stop the flow of custom designs throughout the LEGO community, all of which seem get better as they come. The latest addition is this sleek design by Graeme.Straughn, who has been producing many incredible Star Wars creations over the past few months. Mixing simple elements creatively, and in excellent positions, he has truly created a master bike design. Some many not appreciate the "illegal" connection points, but I for one do appreciate them, especially on such a small, but intricate vehicle design. May the swooshing be with you!

Set Clear! Lights, Camera. . .Action!

Aaron Newman, the director of this film-in-production, has shown us the set that he has created. The question is, what is being filmed here?! The next Star Wars film? Another Marvel, or DC superhero film?! What is this new film?!?! Needless to say, this behind the scenes LEGO shot is truly done to near perfection. Even the little details such as the director's chair, the large lights, and the camera on the custom track look very realistic.

The Return of a Knight in Shining Armor

A very popular knight is returning home, to his wonderfully crafted village built by Guy Smiley. We love seeing beautiful and complete LEGO scenes here at BrickNerd, and this scene fits that category. This scene seems to show so much, yet little at the same time. It's very nicely designed and captured by the builder. It also showcases simple techniques to create realistic medieval structures and details. Nicely done!

We Have A Landing

An appropriate time for a recreation of a lunar module, done by Sad Brick. I think what I love about this overall scene is the terrain. It's not just studs, or SNOT bricks. Using 1x1 round tiles adds such a nice texture. The module itself is also wonderfully done, and stands out amongst other models I have seen. Quite a nice view in this photo!

The Eastern Air Temple Rises

Hacim Bricks has taken it upon himself to recreate the Air Temples from the world of Avatar. Though I am not all that familiar with the story, I can recognize an excellent creation layout. After having previously completed his projects of the Northern and Southern Temples, and now this replica of the Eastern, Hacim hopes to finish the project by designing the Western Air Temple by this time next year. According to the builder, the majority of this build was done in just two days! Though it's not clear exactly how long this build took, that is still impressive. Well done!

A Castle in the Woods

No one can deny the beauty of an all-LEGO scene. Gid617 has spotted a castle ahead, perched on a hill above the forest. Excellently crafted with simple parts, this castle must be visible for miles. With its many towers and flags, it looks like this castle will stand the test of time. A lovely scene!

The Vulture Is Swooping

Swords, knives, guns, droid arms, binoculars -- all put to good use in this MOC! Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out in just a few weeks. Custom Vulture designs was something I knew I would see several of in time. This is the first high quality model of Vulture's suit I've seen produced by a builder thus far. Mega Mantis

Insects must bee his thing lately, because Takamichi Irie has built several larger insects recently. This crazy-cool flying mantis is the latest addition, and a great one indeed. I must say, there is quite the buzz around this MOC. The wings are a definite highlight, and catch light beautifully with all the translucent colors used. What an awesome LEGO insect! This would be something very cool to hang from a wall.

Don't Get Your Feathers in a Tangle

Cab ~ reveals a nice brick-built bird display, something that reminds me of some stuffed bird displays I have seen in museums. The body of this bird has some very nice organic shaping along the sides and top. The head and neck also fit very well into the patterning of the white and black feathers. This creature, known as the Tahitian Rail, is an extinct animal from the 1930's (according to the builder and Wikipedia). It may be extinct, but the builder just gave us a reminder of this creature!

Table Scrap Tiny Fighters

Labelled as table scraps by the builder (which is quite ironic, considering that there are several kitchen utensils used here), David Zambito used some brand new collectible minifigure accessories to good use. David used the new dark blue food trays as the panels for the iconic TIE fighter vehicle. With perhaps a recoloring of these pieces in black in the future, and maybe some custom sticker work, these would work incredibly well for microscale TIE fighter building. The other use, which is my favorite, is the at the very end of the Y-wing. Those are the new wisk accessories, which work so very well to cap off a little rebel starfighter. Simplicity is not always a bad thing, as demonstrated here. All you need is your creativity.

Transformable Midi-scale Bots

Transformers are certainly not in disguise in the LEGO community lately. The excitement builds for the release of the next Transformers film, and fans like PsychoBrick46 are building and transforming some LEGO MOC's for the occassion. Though these bots are designed using simple parts, what I really appreciate about them is how well they transform. Both bots are fully transformable, without having to "rebuild" them by taking them completely apart and then building them differently. They function much like the actual Transformers toys, where you turn parts around, pop off parts and put them on at a different angle, etc. For a better understanding of how well they transform, check over on the builder's YouTube channel, where he has posted some breakdowns!

Nathaniel Stoner

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

Feather Dragons Are Fierce

How many of you have those dragon-shaped minifigure helmet plumes? Well, have you ever thought of using them as a tiny dragon attacking a castle or village? Neither have I! This tiny medieval layout that is only a mere 6x6 studs (plus SNOT border) is being attacked by two terrifying dragons. The design of this creation may be simple, but the plumes are such an excellent idea brought to us by Jsnyder002!

Technique Tuesday - Treasure Chest Lids

One of the best things about the LEGO community is that we can learn from one another.  Here at BrickNerd, we like to share techniques that we see from builders all around the world. . .

This week I actually wanted to share one of my own techniques. I recently came into possession of more treasure chests, and I happened to be working on a creation that needed a uniquely textured wall. For this technique I removed the treasure chest lids and only used those. By connecting lids together with tiles, they came together to form columns (as seen below). The lids do not connect together from the inside, so this can be a bit fragile at first. The small hole you see half way up the column is not large enough for a bar attachment, which is a downside. There is no way to get rid of it, because half of each column must face the other way in order to fit together. However, neck brackets can slide into the gaps on the top and bottom of each column. This allows you to switch back to studs-on-top building, which means you could connect each column to a floor or ceiling. With enough friction on the top and bottom, this wall will hold securely. U-Wing Troop Transporter

Another fine addition to many AFOL's recreations of the new U-Wing from Rogue One. Inthert created his own replica of the Rebel transporter, yet it's still unique compared to other designs. Of course, the function of the wings works and looks very nice, lining up with the large engines. Make sure to check out the builder's photos for views of the cockpit controls and cargo hold!

Wearable Overwatch LEGO

LEGO and Overwatch video game enthusiast Nick Brick has done something many builders don't -- build something that is completely wearable! Known for making weapon props from pop culture, that is certainly not the same as what Nick has accomplished here. His latest creation is Tracer's Chronal Accelerator, complete with even the character's goggles (with LEGO lenses)! With this creation being complete, Nick now has Tracer's complete arsenal.
