Sleepless

Here's a compelling and provocative piece by builder Nuju Metro, as with all art it's up to your interpretation. For me it represents the continual distraction and compulsion our phones give us, and the deprivation sleep as we strive to not miss a thing. It's no small irony that the device that connects us so irretrievably from the world, acts as a blinder and wall to those immediately around us.

No.1 "Sleepless"

Vintage Home Decor

What a time it must have been in the late 1800's and early 1900's, a fanciful new invention was coming out practically every month, opportunity was everywhere and craftsmen still made the furniture. The occupant of this study must have been fairly well to do, but had excellent taste. Builder Jared Chan shows us how vintage is done.

Elegant Telecommunications

Now don't get me wrong, I think my iPhone (and all of it's predecessors) have been beautiful designs, but I wouldn't call them 'elegant'. Phones dating back to the art deco and art nouveau era however, were stunning art pieces that you happened to make calls with. Take for instance this brilliant MOC by kosbrick. It is representative of a time when form and function effortlessly intertwined, and is as lovely to look at as it is useful for communicating.

Vintage Phone

New Fangled Communication Device

I may not be so old I remember phones like this, but I do recall with surprising clarity the days of the rotary dial. That dread and grumbling when you go to call a friend with a lots of 9's in their number. But I must say if it was getting to use a beautiful device like this MOC from edguy20, it may not have been such a bad experience.
