Tasty LEGO: A Dish of Delicious MOCs

Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published February 17, 2022.

There’s always something uniquely impressive about a LEGO build that can trick you into thinking it’s not LEGO for a second—and hands down my favorite 1:1 brick-built replicas are meals. In fact, I started a gallery just for LEGO meals years ago… and from that curated collection, I present my very favorite mouthwatering MOCs! So get ready to be hungry, because each one of these creations is built to make your stomach growl!

Breakfast

Let’s start the day right with a healthy, fruit-filled breakfast by Little John. I still don’t know how these minifigure hats are attached… but it must have taken some dedication to collect so many!

If that’s not enough to get you out of bed, how about these crispy waffles? This buttery syrup even looks sticky! ExeSandbox really got the most out of this scrumptious render!

Lunch

Our first course comes from Malaysia from builder Vincent Keiw. This one has a great blend of real objects and LEGO to really sell the illusion.

If you prefer seafood—or Bionicle—then this is the right meal for you. DanielBrickSon really skewered this one!

Dinner

For dinner, how about something a bit less exotic. Try the Iron Burger from a friend of BrickNerd Jonas Kramm, complete with Duplo lettuce, rubberband onions and skis under the fries!

Dessert

Once again, we’ll start healthy. Vincent Keiw has done another beautiful job capturing these fruit shapes and textures!

Pies are also mostly fruit… right? Especially cherry pies. It’d be hard to overestimate the brilliance and complexity that went into the crust of this one! Timofey Tkachev baked up this tasty treat. Not even my real pies turn out looking this perfect!

My real pies look more like this one… maybe that’s where my brother (who built it) got his inspiration. The oozy goodness has a charm of its own, don’t you think?

Snack Time

If pies aren’t your favorite, have a Twinkie while you wait for the cake to be cut! Notice the clever use of studs and anti-studs to make it look like this treat has just been broken in half. Kristi really let the cream-filled center shine.

How to Cake It

And here comes the cake! This one (from yours truly) uses anti-studs to imitate the spongy look found inside a cake. And look at all the swirly icing. Yum!

If you’re a little older than two, here’s a cake with more candles for you. The rubber bands J.B.F. used really help achieve the right texture.

The textures on this next slice by Jonas take the realism even farther. Every 1x1 round plate seems to be perfectly placed.

There’s Always Room for Ice Cream

But what’s cake without ice cream? This little Sundae by Jens Ohrndorf makes perfect use of a Ninjago tornado piece as the glass.\ and a minifig hairpiece for a dollop of whipped cream.

If by any chance you’re still hungry after all that, this ice cream sandwich and creamsicle are both far larger than life. Just notice the size of those horns used for the drippings! These were built by LEGO designer Carl Merriam and some other collaborators who like building larger-than-life objects in their free time.

Second Dessert

After Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevenses, Luncheon, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Supper and Dessert, we really think there should be Second Dessert! Today, we feature chocolate on the menu. For a slightly smaller bit of something sweet, have one of these chocolates again from Little John—we can almost feel it melt in our mouths.

Chocolate doesn’t need to be fancy to be good; these simple bars from Umbra Manis are also able to make me hungry!

Sobremesa

To finally close out this delicious meal, let’s just sit for a bit to chat and admire on more of Little John’s treats- a gingerbread house. Good thing it’s LEGO because it would be far too lovely to eat anyways!

I hope you enjoyed your meal! Maybe it left you hungry, but just remember that it was also calorie-free!

If this taste of LEGO goodies leaves you longing to cook up something yourself, why not try taking a mundane meal and turning it into bricks for the Festival of Mundanity contest?
