The Only Thing Missing is a Pencil

You may recall the opening scene from Guardians of the Galaxy, where Star-Lord makes his way into the dark, ominous chamber containing the coveted Power Stone. Once inside, he removes his helmet, carefully places his earphones on his head, and presses play. The rest, as we say, is history.

Builder Jerac has recreated a Sony Walkman in red and entirely out of LEGO for a contest on zbudujmy.to. (Although his music preference is more in the metal realm than Quill’s classic R&B. Perhaps he has an appetite for destruction? Anyway…)

Now, if the Walkman in Guardians wasn't the first one you’d ever seen, then you can truly appreciate the stunning realism of this build. What it meant to us Gen-Xers was freedom. Freedom from listening to our parent’s music in the car. I swear, if I had to listen to Anne Murray one more time (sorry, Simon)…

Not only does it look great, the thing actually works: it opens, the cassettes fit in there, and it plays music. Totally rad! Jerac wrote a bit about his musical model:

“You can open the lid, put cassette inside, plug in headphones and... actually turn it on because I used light bricks components too. Although yes, I know, a Walkman does not have its own speaker. It was safer to do it this way though than to route those ultra-thin wires through the headphone jack.”

This has also been added to LEGO Ideas if you want to support it, though the only thing missing is a pencil!
