And All That Jazz!

You may have seen the announcement of the 21334 Jazz Quartet coming July 1st—you may have seen a piece-by-piece in-depth review already (maybe!? we haven’t looked yet). But now that you’re awake again, you can check out our take on the arrival of a new LEGO set here at BrickNerd and see where the inspiration came from. Let’s go back to see the original MOC and peruse a few other jazz-inspired creations from around the LEGO community!

We’ll start off with the original MOC, along with the cleverly worded and succinct BrickNerd article from 2020. The builder Hsinwei Chi, aka LEGO 7, also kept it to the point with only the title Jazz Quartet. And like I said in the first post, this build needs no explanation. Apparently, LEGO thought this as well since the final set is so close to the original MOC.

Next up, we’ve got a pair of instruments by builder 栗井, simply titled Saxophone and Trumpet. Again, no descriptors, no back story. Sensing a trend here? Will Galbraith, BrickNerd contributor emeritus, spotted these back in 2016 after seeing them live at a show in Japan. He was immediately drawn to the builds due to his own history of playing in his school band. (A BrickNerd and a Band Nerd!?)

Now we circle back to something more akin to the newly released set. Builder Pedro Vezini’s creation, titled Jack Johnson Sessions' Miles Davis features the lifelike action of a brick-built, midi-land XL figure. (I just made that scale up, but you get the idea.)

Now this MOC is more up my alley. Filbrick has engineered a steam-punk trumpet speeder for the LEGO Speeder Bikes Contest on Flickr. Why not, right? And with no wheels, he doesn’t have to worry about a flat.

Of course, no search for" “LEGO Jazz” would be complete without everybody’s favorite trash-talking Autobot. I went with Sam.C’s chibi version of the 1st Lieutenant. Look at those jazz hands! Just had to throw that in there.

There you have it, loyal readers! A little recap of some nifty Jazz-inspired creations, large and small, new and old, from around the LEGO community. That’s music to our ears.
