LEGO Community Headlines and Highlights for June 2022

The LEGO community is lucky to have so many blogs, magazines and channels that create amazing content about our hobby. Here at BrickNerd, we celebrate getting nerdy about the bricks!

This past month, we visited Brickworld Chicago, Paredes de Coura and Brick Rodeo. We took a deep dive into LEGO math and LEGO roofs. We chatted with a Pixar director, turned on the lights at LEGOLAND, and celebrated a LEGO wedding. We even published instructions for a baby spaceship and a truck, learned about Philippine architecture, got up close with some Bio-Cup creatures, and even got some LEGO wet on purpose. We’ve published so many interesting articles, that we’ve included an interactive calendar of them at the bottom of this post so you can make sure you didn’t miss a thing.

But there are many more fascinating stories to be told from within the LEGO community, so here are some of the best LEGO articles that caught our contributors’ attention throughout the month of June. We applaud the effort that went into each of these features, so click on the headlines or photos to head to each story or video. They are well worth your time!

Beyond the Brick: How We Built Beyond the Brick

Beyond the Brick's Joshua and John Hanlon deliver the keynote address at Brickworld Chicago 2022.

Blocks Magazine: Evolution of the LEGO Star Wars Clone Trooper

How many different cline troopers are there? Which is the most unusual? What clone armour is entirely blue? Blocks is using the Force to delve into the history of the Galactic Republic and the evolution of LEGO Clone Trooper minifigures.

Brick Fanatics: The LEGO Group Is (Mostly) Doing Right By Queer People

As LEGO has grown in popularity as a brand, they have been making concerted efforts to represent more people in its products. The LEGO Group’s recent LGBT+ friendly activities are very impressive, although there is arguably still room for improvement.

BrickCentral: Using Flags To Control Light In Lego Photography

We often say that light is the basis of photography and this is absolutely true. The more light you have at your disposal, the better. But sometimes we need to limit the amount of light or direct it in a special way to create a certain atmosphere. In this situation, the so-called black flags come to the rescue

Hachiroku24: LEGO Transformers Bumblebee G1 MOC

With the launch of Optimus Prime, he needed a friend that also fully transforms.

JK Brickworks: Flip Walker

This mechanism is based on an old toy from 1987 produced by Bandai called the Revolt Bear Mobill. There was some discussion on reddit about whether or not it could be made using LEGO bricks, and I immediately set about to try and find out.

Jay’s Brick Blog: A Deep Dive of The 2022 Lego Inside Tour Set – 4000037 LEGO Factory AGV

On an average day at the LEGO factory “Kornmarken”, each of the robot-like AGVs lifts and transports around 7.1 tons of LEGO bricks – and they do it all by themselves with no one to steer them around. In this year’s exclusive LEGO Inside Tour set, we salute the hard-working AGVs.

Maty’s Dice: Master Builder: Milan Reindl, The First And Only Czech One So Far (translated)

What kind of patriots would we be if we didn't have a post on the web about the first and so far only Czech designer who managed to establish himself in international competition and got a chance to design his own LEGO kits directly at the company's headquarters in Billund, Denmark?

New Elementary: LEGO Cloth Fest: Eero Okkonen

The most common connection point on cloth pieces is a stud-sized hole. This is convenient, as a stud-sized hole also fits a pin, LEGO TECHNIC axle and a 3.18 mm bar - the latter, very loosely. This is also on minifig capes that connect to the tall neck stud of a minifigure torso.

Nick Brick: LEGO Lola from Obi-Wan Kenobi

Nick Brick presents a life-size LEGO replica of Lola (L0-LA59), the companion droid of Princess Leia in the Disney+ series Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi.

RJMBricks: I Fixed Minecraft LEGO Sets

LEGO Minecraft sets aren’t exactly what you would expect from the game, so I’ve changed them so you could have an exact replica while playing Minecraft.

The Rambling Brick: Building Creative Confidence

I had a chance to look at some LEGO City Missions sets and to talk to Lillie Talbot and Mikkel Lee from the Creative Play Lab of LEGO Group: they make part of the team behind this new product line which promises that you get to “Use story to build, not instructions.”

Tips&Bricks: Dynamic Minifigure Posing

Minifigures are one of our favourite things about LEGO, with their detailed designs and ability to add life to MOCs. Today we're looking at how you can position the minifigures in your builds to create dynamic and interesting poses and scenes.

Tips&Bricks: Pride Month 2022

Last week we shared the history of Pride month and today we feature all of your fabulous builds + talk about LEGO’s A-Z of Awesome campaign!

Toy Photographers: Photo Feature: Alicia aka @taskera_photography

My name is Alicia, I’m from Spain and I’m currently living and working in Germany. I’ve always been very artsy and craftsy, and I love taking pictures when on holidays, but I didn’t really start learning photography until the lockdown hit.

Zusammengebaut: Lion Knights Castle and Galaxy Explorer: Our Designer Interview (translated)

Recently, as part of the 90 Years of Play celebrations in Billund, Denmark, Chris from Brickset and I had the chance to speak exclusively with LEGO Senior Designers Mike Psiaki and Milan Madge about two new special sets.

If all of those amazing features weren’t enough to satisfy your LEGO community craving, here is an interactive calendar of everything that BrickNerd has published this last month to make sure you didn’t miss a single article.
