BrickHeadz in Disguise

/

BrickHeadz have limited opportunities for many details. However, a crossover between LEGO's new series and Transformers proves that you can pack small details into these little character designs. Curtydc designed a Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, including details like the wheels, headlights, and grills of their robotic designs. These are possibly my favorite BrickHeadz figures created by AFOL's. I hope we see more of these BrickHeadz in disguise soon!

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

A Throne Fit for a Hellish King

Deus Otiosus crafted this scary looking throne. It looks very strong, probably because of its backbone. The builder did an excellent job incorporating many bone elements, keeping it organic and scary appearing throughout the design. (I especially like the curves of the sides.) A wonderful use of many curved white tooth/tail pieces to make sure it never appears to have a straight angle. It might not the most comfortable to sit on, but surely it strikes fear into the hearts of the ruler's subjects.

Animals Have the Podium

Takamichi Irie's tiny animals are making a large impression on many LEGO enthusiasts. When building your own animals, it is no easy task. The smaller you make the creatures, the less detail they have, and they look less organic. Now, some of these may not be scaled for minifigures, but if you went much smaller with these organisms, they wouldn't be nearly as cool. Which is your favorite?! Mine has got to be that rooster.

Use Your Tiny Harpoons and Tow Cables

This is by far the best small-scale AT-AT I have seen in LEGO form! Thanks to MIro Dudas, we instantly recognize this iconic scene and vehicle from The Empire Strikes Back. This model is so incredibly accurate, if I happen let my eyes go out of focus, it doesn't even appear to be LEGO. It also appears that the midsection could be easily switched out with orange elements to remake this as an AT-ACT (though there are other differences between the two variants). I appreciate that Miro even included the walker's footprints in the snow, a detail others leave out of their scenes. Nicely done!

Matrix of Leadership

I remember watching the classic show The Transformers (Generation 1) when I was a little kid, and later to watch the more recent adaptations like Transformers Animated. Though I may not be the biggest fan of Michael Bay's movie versions, I'll still always be a Transformers fan. This post is a bit nostalgic for me. Alex Jones has been working on many LEGO Transformers projects, including this recreation of the Matrix of Leadership. The device itself may be very accurate, but that complete LEGO background is what really drew me to this creation. I instantly recognized the theme from the classic show. Wonderful work, Alex!

A Builder's Bodyguard

Djokson continues to produce wonderfully crafted figures by combining system elements and buildable figure systems. How does he do it?! This figure, the Crimson Crusher, is obviously ready for a fight. The body and especially the head are very sleek, but those large hands are my favorite part, using those nice joint pieces to create finger/glove texturing. This guy could easily fit into the film Real Steel.

Classic Space Robots are Helpful

These robots, inspired by the classic and well-loved Space theme, are always willing to lend a helping...claw? GolPlaysWithLego built these very friendly looking robots earlier this week. Not only do they have a unique style of legs and bodies, but they look quite efficient and in good condition. I'd be okay with these bots working on my spaceship, would you?

A Demon from the Dark

Another LEGO Balrog has emerged from the dark, this time created by fan Jonas Kramm. Easily one of the most iconic, dark creatures that was created by J.R.R. Tolkien and brought to an audience's eyes by the films. This creature seems to have a large presence in this photo, even though it's not quite appropriately scaled for LEGO's minifigure versions of the Fellowship. To make it even more evil, Jonas added a light brick in order to light up this demon's back. Truly a terrifying appearance!

He Said Welcome To The Frickin' Guardians Of The Republic

BrickinNick celebrates both May the 4th AND the release of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. Here we have a brick-built Grewbacca and Rocket Solo. It's a crossover that does not look strange in the slightest, actually. I think it works well, especially Grewbacca. I'm not sure why, but I also really like how the iconic weapons are designed. This is most certainly a crossover I'd watch in an instant.

How many of you have (non-LEGO) models of Han Solo's famous Corellian freighter? JK Brickworks created a monochrome model out of LEGO. It's bringing two awesome model styles into one! Though there may not be color, this ship is still instantly recognizable, including all its details and angles. Nicely crafted!

The Battle of Helms Deep is Not Over Yet

We're all quite familiar with Helms Deep. We've seen tiny versions, we've seen medium size versions. However, rarely do we see a model this large. Classical Bricks is prepared to recreate quite a battle, the question is...does he have enough Uruk-hai? I would recommend having multiple Elves ready to protect that weakness in the fortress...

A Battle Fit for a King

A collaborative castle battle effort that was on display during BrickFair Virginia 2016. Gary^The^Procrastinator shared photos of this magnificent battle on his Flickr photostream. Multiple skilled castle builders contributed to this massive MOC, creating realistic ruins and an awesome port battle. Some of those boats are truly inspiring. Itsy Bitsy Steamy

Steampunk is always intriguing, as are mechanical insects. When the two mix, you get something beautiful and inspiring. Jonas Kramm made a delicate looking steampunk mechanical insect. What more could you ask for? That clear dome on the very bottom, covering (yet revealing) some inner mechanisms of the spider is easily my favorite aspect of this build. Wonderful work!

Hall of Horses

Edoras, the capital of Rohan. A lovely microscale rendition of this beautiful, golden city in Tolkien's magical world. Isaac S. created this little city for the LEGO Middle Earth Olympics over on MOCpages. Incorporating very simple pieces, there's no way this build could look anymore similar to the actual city. Well done!

I Am Groot, I Am Groot. I Am Groot!

Thank you for telling us a little bit about yourself, Groot. I'll take it from here. Markus Rollbühler is clearly excited to see our favorite baby tree in existence on the big screen! Now, this little figure of Groot is excellent, especially the shaping of the head, and those cute little eyes. I think the sand green was a nice color choice, even when mixed with the olive green. I also really love the control device, with those buttons and levers. My only question is, who has the tape? Not a single person has tape? I think we should put some tape over the death button.

The Last Skimmer

Grant Davis is leading the charge. . . This happens to be the first build I have seen from the Last Jedi trailer, and it's an excellent model indeed. The new resistance vehicles are seen skimming across the surface of Crait towards a battle with the First Order. Though we have very limited footage of these new vehicles, Grant was able to build a model that is easily recognizable, even if it didn't have the iconic dust behind it. This is one of the things I knew we would see multiple versions of in LEGO, because most of the other footage from the trailer is just scenes with a few characters. I was also planning to build this craft, but I may hold off, because we have this awesome representation!

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever. 

     My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here. 

Your Favorite Birds in LEGO

Here at BrickNerd, we like to occasionally look back at past creations from the community. . .Especially when it includes seeing your favorite troublemaking birds made out of LEGO.  To me, it seems that the popular Angry Birds has still remained so to this day.  Waaaaay back in 2012, Iain Heath created perfect little models for 3 of the iconic feathered beasts and 1 green ball of bacon.  Now all we need is a slingshot and some wooden planks...

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations).

Technique Tuesday - Tinkering with Treads

One of the best things about the LEGO community is that we can learn from one another.  Here at BrickNerd, we like to share techniques that we see from builders all around the world. . .

This week we share a very different and more unique technique compared to the structural ones we featured previously.  Karf Oohlu shares a technique "scrap," but I happen to really like this design (in truth he just didn't want to order more parts).  Using the popular t-bars and light gray binoculars, Karf developed an easy to expand tank tread.  Though it may require hundreds of each element to make a complete tread like this, it could work to make some smaller versions.  A very interesting, but parts intensive technique!

The Future of Garbage

Look what the future holds for our garbage trucks?  It looks like we utilize these big trucks to our advantage to mount a large defence during the zombie apocalypse.  Guy Smiley built a cool armored garbage truck that looks like it could be from a video game.  Super cool job!

Stick Shack

Grant Davis completes yet another MOC full of NPU.  How often have you seen a building that has walls made entirely out of bars (and bar-like parts)?  For me, never -- before I met Grant here.  This creation is another that can't be fully appreciated unless you check out this video on Grant's YouTube channel.  Though it may not appear so, this shack can be turned upside without a single bar coming loose.  How cool is that?  Wonderful work, Grant!
