The Tick - Heroes And Villains

The 90's cartoon series The Tick was known for being quirky, funny and unorthodox, and these miniland scale figures by builder BenSpector42 can be described the exact same way. Sure super strength and invulnerability are nice, but 'drama power', now that's serious. Especially when you're up against a guy with a chair for a head.

Sugar, Spice, And Everything Nice...

...These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls
But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredients to the concoction...
Chemical X
Thus, The Powerpuff Girls were born!
Using their ultra-super powers, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup
Have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil!

I am not ashamed to admit I have this track on my iPod. I'm also not ashamed to admit I really dig this MOC by madoruk.

Miniland: The Powerpuff Girls

Sugar, Spice, And Everything Nice...

Having raised a millennial, we had plenty of exposure to cartoons in the 90's and 00's. We were steeped in Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Spongebob, Rugrats and the like. But the one with the best theme song was The Powerpuff Girls (in fact it's still on my iPod). Builder legomichiiiiii built these lovely little ladies. Photo by willgalb

Steven Universe

I won't pretend I know anything about Steven Universe, and a quick Google search looked like a deep rabbit hole I really didn't feel like going down this morning. What I do know is this is a first class character build by Ilia with tons of clever techniques and awesome modeling. And you know what else has a universe? The Star Wars universe, that's what. (yup, lamest attempt yet)

Spaceman Spiff

I've always been a Calvin and Hobbes fan, in fact I still have my original copy of Scientific Progress Goes Boink around here somewhere. So when a C&H MOC shows up I'm always delighted. And when a MOC as cool as this one from Si-MOCs shows up, well it gets blogged. This one also celebrates the 30th birthday of them, which makes me feel pretty old.

Astérix & Obélix

Being an American growing up in the middle of nowhere, I had no exposure to Astérix & Obélix, and to be honest, I have no idea who these characters are. I mean, I saw this MOC by vitreolum I though "cool, Astérix & Obélix". Then I realized, I have no idea who is who. Then I realized I always assumed that was their names, but as far as I knew, it could be their favorite food, or anything else, I had no idea. What I do know is these are awesome character builds, the rest I'll have to spend some time researching.

Gargamel

I know nearly nothing about the Smurfs. I was too old to care about them when they burst onto the American saturday morning cartoon scene in 1981. Interestingly enough, builder Deathly Halliwell also doesn't know much about them either according to his description of this stunning MOC of the main bad guy Gargamel. Lucky for us you don't have to be a Smurf fan to enjoy this marvelous sculpture.

Speed Buggy

Here's another nugget of my childhood. When I was a kid Saturday mornings meant getting up way earlier and easier than it was just one day ago, eating way too much cereal and watching way too many cartoons. This was a favorite, Speed Buggy from Hanna-Barbera. Just for old time's sake I had to check out YouTube to watch a little bit, and it's live action counterpart Wonderbug... Man, I watched some really bad stuff as a kid, but I loved it. And I love this perfect tribute to Speed by builder SPARKART!

Kwik-E-Mart

Hanging out at the convenience store is a way of life. I hate to think how many times I've passed through the doors of all the 7 Elevens, QuickTrips and Am Pm's in my life. And our beloved Springfield wouldn't be the same without Kwik-E-Mart. Where else are you going to get over-priced beef jerky and a Squishee? This one was lovingly and expertly built by 6kyubi6, and it's pretty much perfect.

My Life As A Teenage Robot

You millennials might recognize this shiny young lady. It's XJ9 from My Life as a Teenage Robot. I can recall quite clearly sitting on the couch with my oldest son, eating goldfish crackers and watching Jenny in her adventures. This version by builder lingonkart not only looks just like her, but it's amazingly posable. Click through for many more pics.

Go Go Gadget Building Skills!

Here's a throw back to the eighties, Inspector Gadget by Legohaulic. I was just a bit old to really get into it when it came out, but I could appreciate his excellent cybernetic modifications. Plus I spent way too much time break dancing to Doug E Fresh, and who can forget the riff from The Show? I'll just leave you with that image, you're welcome.

Zoinks!

Saturday mornings when I was a kid were all about cartoons. We would plop down in front of the console TV, polish off a box of Captain Crunch (while destroying the roof of our mouths) and watch all the greats, Bugs Bunny, Captain Caveman, Droopy, etc. etc. But of course one of our favorites was Scooby Doo and the gang, so this MOC by Bill Vollbrecht gives me a warm fuzzy.

The Ghostbusters (No Not That One)

This is one of those "out there" builds, but it's also pretty neat. This is based on Filmation's Ghostbusters, not to be confused with the movie we all know and love, and not to be confused with The Real Ghostbusters, the animated series based on the movie. This is the animated series based on the 70's Saturday morning show The Ghost Busters (which I remember, I'm old). It was a favorite of Orion Pax, and now he has his very own playset.

Kneel Before Your Master!

He-Man arrived on the scene just a tad too late for me. When the series premiered I was just about to go into high school (oh gawd, I'm so old). And the movie never happened, got it? It just never happened, move on, nothing to see here. But I don't care if I ever watched it or not, this is a badass rendition of Skeletor. Powerpig strikes again.

You Blundering Fool!

Go Go Gadget MOC!

When Inspector Gadget was reaching the peak of his popularity I'm afraid I was a bit old for cartoons (if that's really possible). What's funny is when I see him what pops into my head is Doug E Fresh. But now I want to flip the whole thing on it's head and when I hear Doug E Fresh I'll think of this outstanding MOC by Orion Pax. Check out his website for a full gallery.

"You're Dessssspicable"

When I was a kid we lived for Saturday morning. Somehow the affliction that made getting up early so difficult just the day before was lifted and we were up at the crack of dawn and planted in front of the TV set with a bowl of Cheerios. It was time for some Sid & Marty Croft, Tom & Jerry and of course some classic Warner Brothers cartoons. Pepa Quin masterfully captures one of the greatest moments in Daffy/Bugs confrontational history.
