BrickNerd HQ: From Battlestar to BrickNerd
/For four years, I was a Commander in the Colonial Forces onboard the worlds famous Battlestar Galactica. Well, at least my sig-fig was. Here’s a shot of me and my buddies on the hangar deck before one of our missions. I wrote an adventure comic on the now-defunct MocPages, and just about all of my AFOL friends had a character. We even had a bachelor party for two of them, which wouldn’t have been otherwise possible due to geography. So, “What’s a sig-fig?” you ask?
A sig-fig, or signature figure, is a minifig that represents you in your LEGO builds—as well as your friends, and yours in theirs. Now that I’m a civilian, I’ve traded in the flight suit for standard business attire. Pretty snazzy! But you can tell it’s still me. I’m here at the recently leased BrickNerd Headquarters, just outside Poughkeepsie, NY. Got a heck of a deal on the place. The real estate agent said the crime scene people did a spectacular job. Anyway...
We’ve got plenty of space here for the staff once the COVID restrictions are eased a bit. Hopefully by then the bleach smell will have aired out.
Right now it’s just a few of us on-site; the rest are working remotely. There’s our fearless leader, Dave Schefcik, in his new office behind the counter. The grill gives him plenty of room to work and a little privacy. Plus, grilled cheese ANYTIME! Tough to beat that set-up.
And there’s Simon Liu. Turns out he’s a frog and can’t even contract COVID, so he’s been getting a lot done behind the scenes. “Ribbit, ahem, Hey Bart! Yeah, we’ve been recruiting talent from all over the world and creating in-depth, quality content for the LEGO community, and writing about frogs! At least we had been…”
Whoops! There he goes back to the sink. We’ll be getting more of our contributors here at headquarters before too long, so stay tuned for more sig-fig adventures!
