A Little Patch Of Blue

With all the chaos and stress associated with the modern world, I sometimes wish we could go back to a simpler life, just living off of nature with constant and peaceful freedom. But then I remember that the great outdoors is not my forte, with things like mosquitos (eww) and diseases (double eww). I guess I’ll just stick to enjoying the jungle through this image by MassEditor.

The Hidden Mask

I recently discovered the incredible work that is done by Mitch Phillips. When I was young, Bionicle was one of my top go-to toys. I loved collecting and building them, and even combing them into my own models. Thinking back at it, this was my very first experience with LEGO, though I didn't consider that it was actually made by the company that made the same building sets that I didn't like at the time, because they always fell apart. Because of my early interest in this awesome theme released by LEGO, I will always have an appreciation of equally awesome Bionicle MOCs. This creation is yet another unique one that I have found lately, and I love every bit of it. If you look closely enough, you'll realize that nearly everything seen here is made with Bionicle or other similar building system elements, with only a few exceptions. That building decision certainly added a lot to this scene! 

Temple Lost in the Jungle

David Zambito is back with another unique build, adding to the creativity shown on his Flickr photostream. Jungle terrain isn't easy to replicate in LEGO. It'll either be too cluttered, or not have enough overgrowth. I think this terrain has been executed very well, and even went as far as adding a SNOT border around the edges to add to the terrain. The temple is beginning to be swallowed by jungle growth, but not too far that we can't recognize the nice design of the stonework and its layers.

I've never actually seen a pyramid, and to tell the truth I've never actually felt the need to. It's not that I don't appreciate ancient engineering, or have anything against the cultures that created them, it's because I'm from the central coast of California. This means I don't do hot, I don't do cold, and I don't do humidity. And it seems that everywhere pyramids are, that's what's around them. Just look at this marvelous jungle pyramid by builder MassEditor. You can practically hear the bugs, feel the sweat dripping down your back and smell the damp jungle air. I think I'll stick to The Jungle Cruise at Disneyland as a suitable substitute (then grab a Dole Whip, because it gets hot in Anaheim too).

Jungle Jam

Brothers Isaac and John Snyder are working on another project focused on the old Adventurers LEGO theme.  "John and I decided to do a collab series based around re-imagining old set themes. Adventurers is a theme we’ve liked for years, though we never had any of the sets."  This particular module by Isaac S. is a wonderful representation of ancient ruins that have been swallowed by the ever-growing wilderness.  LEGO jungle creations have always intrigued me.  Perhaps it's because it allows for the builder to dump as much forestry as they want onto the terrain.  The more overgrown, the better!  As Isaac demonstrates here, you also can mix different colors together for the growth which can add more depth.  The beauty of this creation speaks for itself, but something else I admire is that it's just as heavily detailed on every side.  Check out the build, but don't get lost out there!  Bring a machete with you.
