The End Is Nigh

Who builds the world? Perhaps the world is not built. Perhaps nothing is built. Perhaps it simply is, has been, will always be there…a MOC without an AFOL.
— Alan Moore, Watchmen (paraphrased)

Timofey_Tkachev has rung in the new year with a gloomy construction of Rorschach and the iconic Doomsday Clock of Watchmen. The gray-scale trees are a nice touch.

Thriller!

Have you ever wondered what Michael Jackson would look as a zombie? Yeah, me neither. On the other hand, this makes LEGO 7's latest model even more unique. Those eyes are a tad scary, but what's even more scary is how Jackson's hair still looks good, even in resurrected form. The zombie hands crawling their way from the depths of the earth is the excellent finishing touch that this build needed.

Nathaniel Stoner

My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations).

When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here

Rainbow Dash

My Little Pony is one cartoon I never got around to watching, but that won't stop me from being in awe of this character model. Andrew Harvey has done a remarkable job creating a perfectly organic figure of Rainbow Dash. If you squint, it almost looks like a frame of animation. Just look at all the layers of jumper plates in that eye! It's amazing.

Soundwave, At Your Disposal

The classic design of the Decepticon Soundwave has always led to this character being one of my favorites of the robots in disguise. Alex Jones, who has been doing several amazing LEGO Transformers projects lately, has recreated the robot design I am so fond of. The head and chest portions are key to the design, and Alex executed these perfectly. He was even able to make a transformation mode! Simply fantastic. The awesomeness of this build is not in disguise...

Arthur Weasley & Floo Powder

The Ministry of Magic seemed very dark and gloomy in the Harry potter films.  When reading the novels, I always pictured it as a bright and colorful place to work.  For his Iron Builder round, Eero Okkonen has brought some much needed color to the Ministry.  How abut that Arthur Weasley figure, though?  The use of colors on him is just as creative as the fireplace.  Arthur here also features a technique for spectacles that I have not seen before, using handcuffs around the eyes (is that kind of ironic?).  Fifty points to Gryffindor!

Lumière and Chip Are Our Guests

With this weekend's release of Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast remake, it's appropriate that we feature these two models this evening.  BrickinNick created an amusing pair, both equally full of character.  I really want to carry Lumière down a dark hallway, and I'd love to take a soothing drink with Chip.  I'd be in pleasant company in both situations.  Who is your favorite?

Aaahh!!!

I have only the vaguest of memories of watching Aaahh!!! Real Monsters reruns as a kid, but the character designs always stood out to me. I think I even had a few action figures of the monsters. Julius Von Brunk does a great job capturing the creative absurdity of the style in his latest build, Krumm. I can only hope he's planning to show us the rest of the main cast next!
