     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

The SFC - Titan

Andreas Lenander continues to build excellent sci-fi models, the latest being this very starfighter that immediately caught my attention. Just look at those wings, with the incredible angles and the colors that grab your eyes' focus. There's so much subtle detailing in this model, which allows the ship to be sleek and greebly at the same time -- a rare combo.

Retro Spaceship Ready to Rocket Through Space

Many builders bring new designs, techniques, and styles forward in order to create incredible spaceships that look out of this world. No matter how cool they can be, sometimes it's nice to see a retro space build that brings things back down to Earth (so to speak). Boone Builds took the Retro Spacemen minifig from the 17th Collectible Minifigure Series as a source of inspiration to create this rad rocketship sporting some nice colors, sleek curvature, and powerful looking thrusters. I also really appreciate that Boone proves to us that you can swoosh this awesome spaceship. What do you guys think? Are you ready to try your hand at building some retro space models?!

The Violet Vanquisher

When it comes to building starfighters these days, the stranger the better, as demonstrated here by dark-purple fan Chris Perron. Thanks to LEGO's Nexo Knights series, we have had several new curved elements introduced to the ever growing collection of our favorite plastic pieces. Several newer parts are used throughout this spacecraft, for example the dark purple curved panel elements that work miraculously well as...well...panels on this ship's body. Another great and unique starfighter to showcase here on BrickNerd, and I can't wait to see some more designs from Chris in the future!

When Life Gives You Translucent Yellow Cockpits...

Tim Goddard unleashes this new classic space starfighter on the galaxy! Check out the engine detailing in the rear, the greebling on the wings, and the smooth integration of the cockpit into the main body of the spaceship. Every year, we see more and more crazy spaceship designs using the classic theme that LEGO did years ago. Builders like Tim are doing a fabulous job at keeping this theme alive today.

SHIPtember 2017 Recap

Another SHIPtember has gone by, once again full of incredible sci-fi spaceSHIPs! The 5th annual contest produced some of the best SHIP's Flickr has yet to see. With each design being 100 studs long or more, they all are leaving an impact on SHIP builders for the future.

"So We're Saving The Galaxy Again?"

Just following the release of the wonderful Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Tyler Clites has posted a great model of the Milano. I'm still fond of the set released along the original film, but this one is undoubtedly more well-fit to minifigure scale, and it's got some lovely shaping on the edges. To top that all off, Tyler has also made a video sharing some extra details and techniques which went into this build, be sure to check it out!

A Ship Mechanic Turned Jedi

Inthert is a bit of a mechanic himself, creating wonderful Star Wars spaceship replicas.  However, this time, it seems to be the reverse.  Some spaceships were harmed in the making of this MOC.   Truly, this vignette speaks for itself.  All the greebling is spot-on, giving the awesome appearance of ship engine innards.  It also features some forgotten items of the past, including a Phase I Clone Trooper helmet and parts of old astromech droids (that's sad).  In the midst of the mess, it appears one mechanic has found a very ancient item of immense power.

Triangular Landing

An example of wonderful photography, LEGO backgrounds, and excellent spacecraft building performed by Tim Goddard.  What about that triangular landing pad, though?  Very cool!  The skilled shaping of the pad complements that even more strangely shaped craft that just got back from another cruise around the galaxy.  Not sure why, but the shape of the craft reminds me of a firecracker.

Two years in the making, Alexander Safarik has finally completed his 1.75m SHIP!  It's made entirely out of LEGO, too, no metal or wooden framing needed.  His next task is to create some other ships in addition to a ground scene beneath.  The second shot really highlights the variety of understated color blocks along the length of the ship.  Not sure what they indicate, but it all looks pretty cool to me.  And if you want to see this beast in person, Alexander says he's going to be taking it to Brickcon this year.  Awesome!

Is This SPACESHIP Mocking Me?

The RPS Mockingbird, christened by its builder Legonardo Davidy, is packed of little, interesting techniques.  Speaking of being full, the pilot looks like he might be a little cramped inside of there!  As more angled parts are released by LEGO, it's becoming easier to create sleek SPACESHIPS! such as this design, and it also creates more opportunities.  The proportions of this ship appear to be balanced well and still appear sleek (two difficult feats when building small ships).  Compact SPACESHIPS! are my favorites, mostly because I would want to be able to zoom around.

Looks like our pal Nick Trotta's been busy with this impressive fighter for the Nnovvember contest.  He was inspired of course by the Vic Viper design, a ship from the Yukikaze anime, and an F-117.  I encourage you to click on the picture to see the high resolution image.  The details, color blocking and a crafty angle changes are a real treat.  How the heck did he do that?  Well, it's Nick, so naturally there's a video.  Wicked!

This Spaceship is Swooping in!

Every year during SHIPtember the SHIP's seem to get even more complex.  The same can be said for the smallest of spaceships, including this one by castle builder Andrew JN.  The wings on this creation give it a very organic feel to the design, almost similar to a bat.  Andrew used several different techniques to give his starfighter many great curves, which is really what drew me to the build.  I really enjoy seeing the creativity when it comes to building spaceships grow to new heights!

Into the Future. . .and Beyond!

Cesbrick has long been one of my favorite builders.  Typically, he builds in the medieval / fantasy theme, but today he has something completely new and different:  a SHIP!  Personally, this is my favorite model I have seen for SHIPtember 2016.  The color choices used in this model are perfect, and what's even better is the fact that there is a perfect balance between them.  The subtle amounts of light gray mixed into the white is very pleasing to the eyes.  Furthermore, there are excellent examples of greebling all over this creation, and finally those fancy rings that wrap around this futuristic vessel - super cool!  Already looking forward to next year's SHIPtember!

Viper Mark II

As a BSG fan, this Mark II jumped right off the screen at me.  But when I read that it's actually over 100 studs long, I was struck: "No frakin' way!?!"  Chris Maddison has built a mega scale version of the iconic Colonial aerospace superiority fighter.  He's captured all of those sexy curves and angles which are a real challenge at the mini-fig scale.  And there's still plenty of room for tasty greebles on the side of the fuselage and around the engines.  Okay, Chris, time to go shoot some toasters!!

Sean and Steph Mayo make their triumphant return to the building community with the S.S. Helios, a bombastic starship chock full of great techniques! I especially love the use of the Elves keys, the rows of bright yellowish-orange dishes, and most of all the great texture achieved with the 1x1 round tile hexagons!
