The Secret Life of Happy Plants

Hey BrickNerd fans! We spend a lot of time, and I mean A LOT of time, talking about the building experience, and what goes into designing official sets and MOCs.We interview designers, analyze techniques, admire clever part usage, and celebrate beautiful finished models.

But has anyone stopped to ask the LEGO creations themselves what they think about the whole process? The kind of stuff they have to put up with along the way? The endless sorting. The dramatic pauses. The photos. The rebuilding after someone notices a part facing the wrong direction.

No? Well, let’s find out… from the perspective of the two adorable little plant friends in LEGO Botanicals 10349 Happy Plants.

A Plant’s Tale

“What a hot day outside. It looks like a great day for LEGO!”

“Woohoo! We have been chosen out of the backlog to be built! Here we go!”

“Oh wow, you are just going to rip open the bags and get started, ok. Just try not to show my middle parts and only feature my best side…”

“Okay, I think that’s right… are you sure that part goes there?”

“Wait, am I missing a part!? Did LEGO not send everything that I needed to… oh wait, it is in the corner of the plastic bag. Crisis averted.”

“Ooo, I’m almost done! I just need my hair, and we are set…a LEGO set! Hehe/”

“All finished!! I’m alive!”

“And look how cute I am! I could have won that whole AdoraBuild contest…”

Sprouting to Life

“Hey!!! What just happened?!?!? Who is this guy? What’s going on?!?!”

“He just called me ‘Spike’ for some reason. Maybe that is my name. That guy building me sure smiles a lot. Maybe he is a dentist…”

“He just called me cute. That’s all you can come up with? I’m not sure I appreciate that… I’m precious, adorable, delightful, sweet, endearing, cheerful…”

“Now what happpens?”

“Hmph…I guess I’ll just have to take a seat and wait here. It’s nice not to worry and maybe just watch a little TV…”

A New Friend

“Ooo look, another bag!! These parts are different…”

“Whoa whoa whoa, I see how it is, you are just going to display my innards before even saying hello?”

“A new friend has entered the chat!”

“Hey! How’d I get here?! I feel like there’s something missing…”

“And why does that guy get to sit down? Standing with your hands in the air gets quite tiring.”

“‘Sup. Yeah, I think he’s working on the last bag for your hair. He’s been at it a while. The name’s Spike, by the way.”

“Hi, I’m Phil. It’s short for Philodendron…Yeah, I know, it’s a family name.”

“What is this guy drinking? Some kind of apple juice? And why is it in such a fancy glass?”

“Oh look, he finished my hair! There we go! Finally! Took him long enough… I bet those clips confused him a little.”

“Oh here comes my hair! What do you think?!?”

“I think it suits you. But with the set finished, I wonder what happens next?”

The Great Orange Incident

“Not much of a view here. I wonder if he is going to keep our box for an inordinate amount of time before deciding it isn’t really worth it for the space then decides to recycle it just like he should have done the very first day…”

“What’s he doing now with that knife?! And how do I know what a knife is!?”

“I hope he’s not about to…”

“Aaaaagh! Oh, the humanity!!!”

“Well, it’s an orange, but I get what you mean… The horror. He just brushed his teeth too.”

“At least it didn’t last long and he is cleaning up after himself.”

“Looks like we’re on the move!“

“His fingers smell like orange…”

“Thank goodness! Maybe we are going to be put on display somewhere. Hopefully we won’t have to watch him eat anymore.”

“I know, right? Disgusting!”

“But wouldn’t you rather be played with over and over rather than just put on a dusty shelf, smiling into the void for forever?”

“Oooo! This view is nice! I could get used to this.”

Shelfmates

“I wonder who the big guy is? He must have a much better view from all the way up there.”

“I am Optimus Prime!

“One shall stand, one shall…”

“Aw jeez… Here we go…”

“How about the other guy? What’s his deal?”

“That is Voltron. He does not say much. He just plays this theme song over and over…”

On that note, BrickNerd fans, we hope you enjoyed spending a day with Spike and Phil. They're settling into their new home nicely, but something tells us there may still be a little room left on that shelf. Perhaps another Happy Plant or two will join them someday.

Until then, they'll keep each other company, enjoy the view, and try not to watch their builder eat any more oranges. Until next time!
