This LEGO Land Shark is Ready to Make Some Waves

Putting cute little LEGO animals into clunky mechs has been a thing since Karf Oohlu’s Froggie Stoßtruppen more than a decade ago—but how about putting a bigger, more ferocious beast into a mech? Moko (Instagram | Flickr) has done just that and still managed to make his Shark’s exo-suit adorable!

I had to know where this idea came from—so I asked Moko!

Geneva: Where did you get the idea to build an exo-suit for a shark? It seems like a shark would be hard to fit into an exo-suit because it is so long, but you did a great job!

Moko: There are many types of LEGO sharks, but the design of the shark I used this time is an ideal design and very cute (from 60266 Ocean Exploration Ship). It’s so cute, I thought it would be fun if I could make something with this shark.

So I came up with the idea, “If a shark had limbs, it would be the strongest.” However, it is difficult to add limbs to LEGO sharks as they are. So I thought it would be possible to make a LEGO mech where sharks could board. In fact, this shark is just wrapped in an exo-suit, so its structure is very simple.

Geneva: What made you think of including a bit of pink in your exo-suit? It looks really cool!

Moko: Most of the colors used in this exo-suit are composed of Sand Blue and Dark Bluish Gray. That alone was a little unsatisfactory, so I decided to add accent colors to my shoulders, arms and legs. Initially, I tried various colors such as red, white, yellow, and orange as the colors to use, but none of them worked well. In the end, I decided to put the accent color only on the left arm, which was pink.
