Strike Any Key When Ready

This brings back memories. The first computer in regular use in my life was my wife's college computer, a Packard Bell 386, not unlike this brilliant MOC by powerpig. Among it's many impressive specs was a whopping 20MB hard drive. Yes, that was cutting edge back then, about the size of three mp3's these days. And what's amusing is we wondered how we could EVER fill it.

Vampires

Some reminders as we get closer to Halloween. Vampires can only enter your home if invited. Vampires can be dispatched with a stake through the heart, not to be confused with steak. Garlic is delicious, if you're not a vampire. VAMPIRES DON'T FRIGGIN' SPARKLE (knock that crap off this instant). And vampires built in LEGO by vitreolum get blogged.

Mini Minimoog

No 70's rock band worth its salt was complete without a Minimoog.  They were created to take the synthesizer out of the studio and on the road.  Originally produced from 1970 to 81, they were so popular and sought after, Robert Moog redesigned the instrument for sale in 2002. 

So when I saw Grobie's LEGO version of the classic keyboard, it was time to crank up the Miami Vice theme!

Fresh Blood

Inspired by the stunning Rivers of Hell collaboration of Mihai Marius Mihu & The Deathly Halliwell, onosendai2600 has crafted a castle of nightmares. With it's gaping maw bridge and crimson base, it's an intimidating structure to say the least. But I have to admit despite it's menacing appearance, I find myself irresistibly drawn to this, perhaps it's my darker side?

An Altered Fate

Although I hadn't heard of the Echoes of Imara book series, I recognize an awesome build when I see it.  David Frank's been busy creating this magnificent scene from the book An Altered Fate, by Claire...Frank... Hey!  Turns out he built this in honor of his wife's novel.  What a guy!

Impressive details throughout, from the landscaping to the architecture, it just keeps going.  The battle looks pretty cool, too.

My guess is, after all that work, she'll cut him some slack the next time he leaves the seat up.

Hiro's Workshop

Sharp eyed fans of Big Hero 6 might recognize this creative space by builder Legopard. It's Hiro's workshop, where so much robotic goodness happened. I strongly encourage you to click through and view this picture at high res to see all the lovely detail.and after then check out even more pics on his MOCpages.

Jaws 3D

This MOC hits close to home because one of my specialties in the movie biz is stereography (3D). I've had a life-long fascination with it ever since I got my first View-Master. But I do recall the dubious flirtation in the 80's with 3D, and it wasn't nearly as good as it is now. And I remember this movie in particular, it was terrible. That look on grampa's face in this wonderful MOC by eyescream54 isn't because he's scared the shark is gonna get him, it's because the bad vertical alignment, crosstalk and retinal rivalry of the film has given him a migraine (hooray for technical terms!)

Elfire Interceptor

Here's the latest custom starfighter from Nick Trotta.  That red and white color scheme just about jumped off the screen at me when I opened my Flickr account this morning.  The forward swept wing design and functional details are pretty slick, too.  If you're curious about how it's actually put together, Nick has made a lightening-speed video to show how it's done. 

"C" Is For Cookie

I grew up on Sesame Street, and while I was a fan of many of the Muppets, Cookie Monster was always a favorite. He could always be counted on for unbridled enthusiasm and reckless amusement. There was just something so refreshing and fun about a being that was so fixated on something that it pretty much defined him. I wouldn't know what that's like.

Hellhound

I am continually impressed and amazed what Bionicle builders can achieve with that system. This large figure by Moko has tons of familiar shapes and parts, but combined in this fashion they are utterly transformed into an impressive and imposing character. BokBokTron

In the deep recesses of space a ragtag group of diligent explorers have set forth. No ridge will go unexplored, no stone will go unturned (there could be a juicy worm under you know). These are the chickens of BokBokTron, intrepid fowl adventurers, redefining the term "free range". An inspiring new theme from builder MacLane.

Ghost Trap Brick

Builder buriedbybricks has had an ongoing project of brick sculptures inspired by Cole Blaq's "Enter the Brick" series. His latest takes advantage of the fact that all ectoplasmic entities have a constant ionization rate, a discovery by one Dr. Egon Spengler, that facilitated the capture and storage of ghosts.

Blinky

What do you get when you mashup LEGO Star Wars with monsters? Well, you might just end up with nightmares. Meet Blinky by builder Dodge. He's the result of 'monsterfying' the TIE Interceptor for the Monstermash contest currently being held by SLUG, the Saskatchewan LEGO User Group. Mashup or not, this is a fantastic MOC on it's own.

Trick Or Treat!

Halloween is just over a week away, and things are getting pretty spooky. Scary decorations are going up, graveyards are popping up all over the neighborhood and kids (and, let's face it, adults) and putting final touches on their costumes. Like these two intrepid candy seekers by nobu_tary. So what are you going as this Halloween?

Schwulspinne STG Ausf. B

When I first saw this mech by D-Town Cracka, I thought it was awesome.  I didn't know who the girl was, though, or what the cat's role in the whole thing might be.  I didn't know what MaKtoberfest was, either.  Turns out Maschinen Krieger is a sci-fi universe created by a Japanese artist Kow Yokoyama.  I really enjoy the blend of Japanese style and German engineering, not only in this build but the others in the contest.  Go check 'em out!

Doritos: Dark Alley

When I watched the video promoting the Doritos Crash the Superbowl contest, this commercial immediately popped into my mind. After reading the rules, it was clearly breaking many of them (wait a minute, they showed Batman in the brief, but I can't have Batman in my video?). But I made it anyway, because that's how I roll. So when I submitted last night I wasn't at all confident, and of course it was immediately rejected. But I'm still proud of it and want to share.

IT

It just figures doesn't it. You're out playing in the rain, minding your own business and watching your little paper boat make it's way to a storm drain. Then suddenly there's all kinds of problems, a creeping doubt that you may be just a little too far from home, the fact that this drains to the ocean, and you don't want to pollute the ocean. Oh, and the clown, don't forget the clown.

Self-Portrait

I have occasionally wondered in the past when powerpig was going to get around to doing a Brick Sketch self-portrait. It's logical, since his profile pic is also a genius self-portrait, and I have to say it turned out great. Now I'm wondering when he's going to get around to doing a Nerdly Brick Sketch (ahem!)

Speak & Spell

I never had a Speak & Spell as a kid, they came along just a little late for me (I already speaked and spellt) but this MOC from jtheels still gives me the uber nostalgic feels. I played with one of course, there were plenty at friend's houses and at school, but unlike the fun you could have with a calculator (58008 anyone?) we could never work out how to make Speak & Spell curse for our amusement.
