Bricksburg: 2046
/If a hotel is in crumbling, grimy ruins, does it have no vacancies or is every room a vacancy? I don't know, but it's not everyday I get to use "grimy" as a compliment, and Legofin's Cyberpunk slum is gorgeously grimy.
Cloud Strife
/I missed the boat on Final Fantasy VII when it first came out (I was a Nintendo kid), but it's widely acclaimed as a classic RPG, and still fondly remembered to this day. One thing that hasn't aged as well is the blocky 3D models, but I think it gives it a certain charm, which Moko has brilliantly recreated in bricks. Those polygons look sharp!
Heisenberg
/Breaking Bad is one of my favorite shows of all time. Watching lowly chemistry teacher Walter White's transformation into the criminal mastermind Heisenberg was thrilling television. LEGO 7 made a fantastic MOC of Heisenberg at work. Lots of great details here, one of my favorites being the custom Golden Moth Chemical decal on the drum. It's best to stay out of his territory...
Super Mario Odyssey
/Daniel Church is back with another iconic flying vessel from a video game, this time the Odyssey from Super Mario Odyssey (one of the best Mario games ever). Daniel captured the look of the ship perfectly, and the custom Mario fig (with Cappy!) is a nice touch. Jump Up, Superstar!
I'm A Lumberjack And I'm OK
/I find it doubtful that GM-20, a.k.a. "MARVIN," is a fan of buttered scones or women's clothing, but around the construction site there's little doubt he's immensely useful. Builder César Soares once again delivers a mech that is both cute and charming and ever so slightly terrifing.
Vegeta
/Dragonball Z was one of my favorite animes growing up. It's completely ridiculous, but so much fun. Legendary builder Moko has made a MOC of Super Saiyan Vegeta in his Great Ape form (long story...). He captured the look perfectly, and I love how pose-able he looks. How will Goku get out of this pickle? TUNE IN NEXT TIME ON DRAGONBALL Z!
AL-PARAGON
/Who doesn't love mecha? This MOC from Lu Sim is gorgeous. I dig the suit-of-armor aesthetic, and the use of the translucent castle door piece as a laser sword is a stroke of genius. He looks like he's ready to square off against a mecha-dragon and save the mecha-princess (OK, I may have taken this analogy a bit too far).
Egg Pooping Bunny
/Easter is right around the corner, and to celebrate, JK Brickworks has made another fantastic MOC: a motorized Easter Bunny that hops and poops real chocolate eggs. As a rabbit owner myself, I can vouch for this MOC's accuracy (although, sadly, my rabbits do not poop chocolate). JK made a video showing off "Winston" in action here.
"I Seem To Be Having Tremendous Difficulty With My Lifestyle."
/Douglas Adams was a trailblazer of the "quirky science fiction" subgenre, especially in his display of the precise randomness of the universe — when imagining all of space, anything is possible, or in fact, likely. Iain Heath captures a corner of that qunitessentially peculiar world with his tribute to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which features, among other things, Marvin the depressed robot, a strikingly short-lived sperm whale, and a fleet of musical dolphins.
Dipodidae
/Dipodidaes, the adorable rodents with the hard-to-pronounce name, have been given the brick treatment by takamichi irie. As cute as they are, this picture looks like you walked in on them planning something sinister. Keep an eye on them.
Cabearpillar
/Whether he needs to lift some heavy equipment on a space freighter, or get into a boxing match against an Alien Queen, this teddy bear is equipped for the task. This MOC by Priovit70 is adorable, and has some great details packed into such a small size.
MFS-018 BloodCancer
/If you're into mecha and LEGO, and somehow not already familiar with Moko's work...crawl out from under that rock. His work is fantastic. His newest creation, the aptly named MFS-018 BloodCancer, is no different. Check out the alternate photo where it transforms into crab mode! Those claws can do some serious damage.
Castle Walker
/Rapunzel is back, and this time she's packing heat! This awesome mechanized Castle Walker by Sheo is a fun build, and the building technique used to make it is really interesting. If you're an evil Step-mother, you wouldn't want to cross paths with this puppy.
Digital Monster
/The Tamagotchi/Digital Monster craze back in the late 90's/early 2000's was everywhere. I remember being young and seeing ads for these play nonstop on TV in-between Saturday Morning cartoons. nobu_tary made a nifty little recreation of a Digital Monster in bricks, complete with a keychain! Luckily, you don't need to worry about feeding this guy.
The End Is Nigh
/“Who builds the world? Perhaps the world is not built. Perhaps nothing is built. Perhaps it simply is, has been, will always be there…a MOC without an AFOL.”
Timofey_Tkachev has rung in the new year with a gloomy construction of Rorschach and the iconic Doomsday Clock of Watchmen. The gray-scale trees are a nice touch.
NERF or Nothing
/Ah, the NERF gun. An icon of both childhood and the office. Pistach has made a fantastic rendition in brick. Orange Brick Separators, which seem largely useless aside from their intended purpose, are put to great use here. Now, where did I lose that foam dart...
Steel Stallion
/I tend to be an advocate for sorting by part instead of color, but then along come builds like Grantmasters' War Horse that make me reconsider. See how many different LEGO weapon parts you can find in it. I spotted at least 18, making this the most well-armed horse I've ever seen.
The Center for the Performing Arts
/Ahh, the theater. I was in a few productions during high school, and I still remember that feeling of extreme anxiety moments before you walk out on stage before you make a fool of yourself (I was a natural at that). This micro-scale theater by Aaron Newman is much less intimidating, and much more charming. The use of the fan pieces for the curtains are inspired.
