Aithaz Hold

I will admit a slight tinge of jealousy to those that got to attend Brickworld Chicago. But don’t cry for me, I was on the Disney Wonder cruising through Alaska while it was going (yeah, boo hoo). Part of that jealousy is because those who attended got to see things like this spectacular creation by builder ‘Ecclesiastes in person, the best way to see LEGO builds in my opinion.

Watch The Orange

Sometimes all you need in life is a little bit of color to brighten up your day. And just by looking at this watchtower, I’m sure Ayrlego can agree with that. It has a perfect combination of interesting techniques and beautiful palettes to make me feel all happy inside and fuel my imagination. Now I can’t help but ask, orange you glad I didn’t make any puns? I just ruined it didn’t I? I guess I’ll see myself out now.

Many Shades Of Grey

When asked to describe the medieval times, as you do in any normal conversation, it is often difficult to focus on a single aspect of this important historical time period. I mean making the choice between discussing knights in shining armor and the bubonic plague is terribly difficult! Nonetheless, next time i find myself immersed in medieval history I might just want to refer to this castle by Aaron Newman, which depicts a mighty fortress while retaining the perfect color scheme for the hardships of this not-so-fun time to live in.

Game Of Thrones Castles In Motion

Fans of Game of Thrones should recognize these iconic castles from the opening titles of the series. Builder Legopard spent three months recreating six of the locations of Westeros and Essos, not only capturing the look and feel of them, but also adding brilliant mechanical action to all. Check out the video to see them all in motion, and try to keep your jaw from hitting the table.

Cozy

This cozy little cottage by builder Peeters Kevin looks like it was lifted right out of a fairytale book. I like to imagine myself coming into a clearing from the woods after a long walk to pick up some bread and cheese and seeing this welcome site. Smoke wafting up from the chimney, the smell of grass, flowers and maybe a delicious stew cooking. It’s just so inviting you want to go inside huh?

Did Someone Request A Hoarder Of Souls?

For the past seven years builders Ben Cossy and Eli Brinsmead have collaborated for Brickvention Australia. The thing is though, they live on opposite sides of Australia, which is a BIG place. So it’s only through careful communication that their collabs work, because they aren’t brought together until the convention. And work they do, either build is a stunning piece on it’s own, but together they’re showstoppers. Click through for more pictures and keep an eye out for upcoming videos featuring this amazing collaboration.

The Perfect Thing To Ring In The New Year

As we transition from 2018 to 2019 I’m thinking this siege tower by W Navarre is sort of the perfect MOC to represent it. Because I don’t care who you are, everyone seems to think they’re under attack. From the silliest online debates of what Grover said to countries being held hostage by political maneuvering, everything feels like an assault. I’m an optimist by nature, so I’m going to remain hopeful that we can pull our collective heads out of our collective rear ends and start building a future instead of endlessly squabbling. Lets use this tower as a really sweet diving platform and have a pool party okay?

Knight's Hall

Medieval times had their fare share of hardships. Yes, everything was lit with candlelight. Sure, guys in metal suits were always trying to take your castle. Of course large swaths of the population might be killed off by disease. But if you were fortunate enough to actually live in a castle what a wonder it must have been. I mean who wouldn’t want to spend time in a space like this one from builder Lego_fan? I want to eat some food at that table or play a game or read a book by that fire, right now!

The Tower

This tower has an interesting story. It started as a dark creepy tower, but over the month or so builder MinifigNick worked on it it magically morphed. I’ve endured a UK winter, and I know exactly what Nick means when he says it was an “antidote to the dark wet winter evenings”. LEGO was my therapy when I was there too, it has pretty magical healing properties.

Cambridge Castle

Check out this lovely micro scale castle by builder soccerkid6, his fifth entry in CCC XVI. Castles like these existed in real life, taking advantage of a mountainous terrain to gain a high ground against enemies. And they were build long before the invention of the elevator, meaning if you wanted to get to that tallest part, you were climbing hundreds of steps. People in medieval times must have had absolutely ripped calves.

Chocolate Box Cottage

This lovely little cottage by builder Full Plate looks right out of the pages of a classic fairytale. With it’s picture perfect setting and rustic charm it’s very welcoming. And while the overall MOC is fantastic, that thatched roof is the stand-out feature. It’s a huge investment in bars and clips, but you’ll have to agree it’s worth it.

Filia's Bakery Is A Feast For The Eyes

Since those very early days when people figured out mixing crushed wheat with water and getting it hot made for a pretty good snack humans have been baking. And it wasn’t long after that the art was perfected and the baker was born. Fast forward to medieval times and we meet Filia, star baker of the nine kingdoms, built by roΙΙi, and making me crave some pastries.

The City Of Alayon

When it’s time to blog something you need to crank up the creative juices, you know? It’s not enough to put a pretty picture up, you have to have some at least marginally interesting words to go with it. Occasionally they come easy, sometimes they don’t. And sometimes they seem so diametrically opposed to the true creative energy that went not only into the build that’s featured, but the description and back story of that build. This stunning floating city by Brother Steven is a good example of this. Click through a read the description of this amazing creation (and see a bunch more pictures!), and then you’ll understand what I mean, and why these words are so mundane, I never stood a chance.

Hyrule Castle

download.jpeg

Here at BrickNerd, we like to sometimes to do a blast from the past feature. . .

Back in 2015, Legends of Zelda video game fan Joseph Z. unveiled his massive model of Hyrule Castle, a recognized location from Twilight Princess. A labor of love for roughly 2 years, this creation features some beautiful octagonal roof and tower designs (which feature the use of many "click hinges"), interesting stone texture using many 2x2 tiles in light bluish gray, and a lot of attention to detail. Not only does the model look fantastic from a distance, but as you get closer you even notice that there is a complete courtyard with different scenes going on to help bring the model to life. Check out all the angles of this creation and more Zelda builds by Joseph here!

Nathaniel Stoner

My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations).

When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here

Defend the Home Tree

This delightful microscale castle makes me think of what the Ewoks would be like if they had progressed to a medieval period in development.  The microscale castle and surrounding landscape is well executed, and the sails on the boat using the newish 29119 is an excellent part choice.  The towering tree filled with tree houses adds a uniqueness to the scene that really drew me in wanting to know so much more about the story in John Klapheke's head for the people in this tree. Are they elves? Lilliputians who moved to the trees and need the walls to defend from squirrels?  One thing is sure the archers in the tree are going to have quite some range defending this castle.

A Tranquil Place

I have to share builder Cesbrick's sentiment on this lovely little location, I just want to be here. I'm not into fishing, or boating really for that matter, but this place draws me in. I want to see inside, I want to hear the birds chirping, I want to smell the fire burning, it just looks so appealing. Maybe perhaps if I can't live here I can just park my Airstream across the lake from it so I can admire it from a distance, if only for a little while.
