Read MoreI will admit that when I first saw this badass character build by Arkov I thought it was a cool foam craft cosplay. Maybe that means I’ve been spending too much time with my other site Nerds&Makers, but I think it’s because this is a fantastically detailed and proportioned character nicely posed and shot.
While the description of this strange character by builder Prhymus says this is a "wandering shepherd in need of a new flock", I'm not certain what kind of flock we're talking about here. The unconventional proportions and build style make this a very compelling character. It's hard to imagine this entity patiently watching over some sheep.
I'm always fascinated with the genesis of a MOC. Sometimes it's a desire to recreate something, sometimes it's a piece of a larger story, sometimes it's just a part that makes you go "hmm". This way cool robot by Mana Ramp Matron came about with the experimentation of using a Technic seat as a head, and just look at the results. You just never know where the bricks will take you.
Is it still Hero Factory if you build villains out of it? Builder chubbybots breaks out the Hero Factory, Knights Kingdom and Bionicle parts and created this badass character. He looks like something out of a video game, the kind of character that makes your heart sink and your palms sweat when they show up.
This centaur knight by nobu_tary is a fantastic mashup of Knights Kingdom, Bionicle and Hero Factory, with just a little bit of System thrown in for flavor. All seamlessly blended into one fantastic fantasy character. Combine that with the pose and the photography and it all comes together to near perfection.
I'm a kid of the 80's. I wore parachute pants, listened to Duran Duran, watched MTV when they had music and kept my eyes on the skies for ICBMs. The proportions and color selection of this sexy bot by DViddy were the first thing that caught my eye. But it's the inclusion of a classic Sony Sport Walkman (which I also had) that put this over the top for me.
We LEGO builders tend to forget (on purpose?) that the Bionicle and the Hero Factroy line of LEGO sets are indeed produced by the same company that makes the more traditional "System of Play" sets. Perhaps it is because the Bionicle/HF parts are deemed to unusable in most traditional MOCs? There is however one thing that parts lend themselves to and that is character models. Vlad Lisin has expertly leveraged these oft-neglected parts to create a replica of Clockwerk, one of the playable characters in the popular PC game Dota 2.
I know Bionicle and Hero Factory doesn't get much love on this blog, I have no excuse. But this series of figures and background story caught my eye. This is a fantasy middle age series called Hyde by Thirdeye88. I love the aesthetic of these, I really want to see some more creative photography of them, they tell a story.
This is a particularly badass and imposing looking MOC from Gamma-Raay . The pose and photography is also impressive. I especially like the proportions and weight of the legs. And you gotta love all that gunmetal gray.
The notion that you could build stable geometric solids with Bionicle or Hero Factory would not have occurred to me not very long ago. But builders like NorbyZERO and Sparkytron have opened my eyes. This sphere is genius.
You can always count on Monster Brick to give you a unique take on something, like his Technic Batcycle. It's like OCC and Bruce Wayne got together to build something so radical the bad guys would just wet their pants when he came around a corner on it.
Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and also to look at some elements a whole new way. The first time I met builder Norbert "Norby" Labuguen we were both displaying at Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA. Norby brought this creation and stunned me. I had never considered Bionicle, Hero Factory and especially Galidor pieces particularly useful. Norby changed all that for me, and continues to amaze me with his MOCs. This isn't the greatest picture of his Opee Sea Killer, but you get the idea, it's awesome.
