Read MoreHere's a fun fact, I live just a few miles from Vandenberg Air Force Base and the 30th Space Wing, the west coast space launch center. When I was a kid there were launches all the time, mostly missile tests for the cold war (kinda chilling in retrospect) but also plenty of scientific launches. These days they're fewer and further between, but always a thrill. The GOES-16, depicted here with an excellent MOC by eldeeem, was launched in Florida though, so I didn't get to hear the engines roar and watch my windows shake, but I'm sure it was pretty awesome.
Builder VAkkron is celebrating one of the greatest scientific minds the world has ever known, Sir Isaac Newton. But this isn't just a wonderful likeness, it opens to reveal small scenes from his life, studies and tells his story. There's even a working miniature orrery to study planetary motion. An exceedingly clever MOC to celebrate an exceedingly clever man.
