Batcave Brilliance Comes to Light

Batcave MOCs have become a classic in the LEGO world. Some of them have certain aspects that make them original. This is the case for Kloou’s creation, which is part of a complete scenography with brilliant light effects. I had the opportunity to discover it in real life during an exhibition in June 2020.

The first aspect that catches the eye is the scenography. Indeed, this Batcave is presented in a very dark environment where the luminous atmosphere reminds viewers of Tim Burton’s film.

It takes a few minutes for the visitor to become accustomed to this environment, which is reminiscent of Batman's cave, It takes a while to take in the humorous details that the creator has hidden in every corner of this universe.

Humour is a constant in Kloou's work, showcased by the care taken in staging the minifigs. The expressions of the protagonists are skilfully worked down to the faces and the dynamism of the postures.

I chatted with Kloou about his MOC and asked a few questions:

Sam: Hello Kloou! Batmaaaaaaaan! I’m in the mood and am curious, what is your secret?

Kloou: Hello Sam! When I say Batman, you say dark! Thanks to the “Let’s Go” exhibition, I had the opportunity to showcase Batman’s HQ. The Batcave was in a dark room with beautiful custom lighting effects and “Batman”-style music. A unique and rare experience with this MOC... for total immersion!

Sam: How did you start? What was the original idea ?

Kloou: I realised that there were several possible interpretations to determine the style of a Batcave. I decided to go for a rather classic version with a cave atmosphere!

Sam: I know you always have good storytelling behind your MOCs—could you give us more info about it?

Kloou: Sure! Batman is about to take a bath with Cool-Tag… that’s when Catwoman storms into the Batcave. While Batman tries to explain the situation to Catwoman, the villains take the opportunity to invade the Batcave and make a mess... Fortunately, we can always count on commissioner Gordon and especially Barbara to put the bad clowns to shame and restore order.

Sam: Can you switch on the light and show us some more cool details? Do you know the answers to a builder’s most-asked questions?

Kloou: heh, let me try. It took two years of work to create the monumental underground HQ. The base of the Batcave is on 2 plates 48x48 but in the end, it feels much bigger! It's about 1,70 m long and I added LEDs everywhere in the construction.

Sam: How many funny details can we find in this Batcave?

Kloou: We obviously find in this Batcave, the great classics of the Batman universe, the Batmobiles (different eras), the Bat-computer, the bat-armory, etc... and the super-villains of course!

Sam: I can’t stop laughing at some of the details! Keep up the good work!

Kloou: Thank you Sam!

Sam: Thank you Kloou! Here is a picture with you, me and your build taken during the “Let’s Go” exhibition in Strasbourg (June 2021). Oh wait, look at that, the Bat-signal is calling me for my next article!
