Instructions to Build a LEGO Grinch Ornament

To celebrate the holidays, BrickNerd contributor Miro Dudas created this grumpy, green Grinch ornament—built with only 36 parts! Full instructions are below as well as an entertaining, updated telling of the famous poem “The Grinch Who Loathed LEGO”.

You can download the instructions pdf or scroll through the gallery below.

The Grinch Who Loathed LEGO

Every Nerd and AFOL liked LEGO a lot.
But the online Grinch most certainly did not!

The Grinch hated LEGO! The whole Billund region!
Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason.

It could be, perhaps, that he preferred MegaBlox.
Or punchtabs instead of a fresh tape-sealed box.

But I think that the most likely reason of all
May be that his collection was two sizes too small.

Also built by Miro Dudas, Instructions available.

But, whatever the reason, his love of stickers?
He stood there hating the builders with Flickrs.

Leering at his screen with a mad Grinchy frown
He wished all the AFOLs would cease like old brown,

For he knew every AFOL was excitedly building
And sharing instructions to help the willing.

“They’re learning new things,” he snarled with a sneer.
”About frogs and parrots and how to build spheres.”

Built by Tyler Clites.

Then he happened on BrickNerd, a community site,
And read about contests to his surprise and delight!

Confused and alarmed, he shouldn’t enjoy this,
A moment ago he pledged to destroy it.

He read about conferences, techniques and sorting,
Their community, friendships and mutual supporting.

The Grinch was amazed when a Nerd said hello
And puzzled that friendship could so easily grow.

Built by headzsets

They shared their knowledge without shame or ads,
And found him a LUG and some helping hands.

And what happened then? Well, the LEGO fans say
That the Grinch became an AFOL that day!

With a smiling soul, he started to build.
Learning new things each day and was deeply fulfilled.

He displayed at a con and won a trophy or two,
And began helping others who were beginning anew.

The Grinch’s harsh feelings towards AFOLs were gone,
He shared the love and joined BrickNerd’s Patreon!

And from that day forth without ever a fail,
He loved building LEGO—a new Christmas tale!
