Shields Up!

When I was fresh out of high school an old buddy of mine and I moved into his parent's rental house here in town. We had no furniture, no money and no clue, but we were pretty happy. Our nightly ritual at 11pm was to grab a Klondike bar,  plop down on our crappy couch, and watch a classic episode of Star Trek. It was really the first time I watched it on a regular basis, and I became a fan. Now whenever I see images from the classic series, like this wonderful pair of mini ships from derjoe, I can't help but think back to those simpler days.

Star Trek

Boldly Going

I know it's less than a year old, but somehow I missed this in January and discovered (or maybe rediscovered, I was working crazy hours then and don't remember much) it this morning. Regardless my jaw hit the desk when I laid eyes on this beauty. And for all you SHIPtember builders, I'd like to point out this thing is about as wide as your SHIPs are long, and studless end to end, stunning. Check out this and many more sweet MOCs at Zmasterbrick's website (totally worth it).

A Study In 1701

Over 40 years passed between designs for the original USS Enterprise for the classic Star Trek series and JJ Abrams movies, but the basic design stayed the same. Builder Riskjockey gives us a side by side comparison of old and new. And while the original was very simplistic by today's standards, it was cutting edge for the time. Yes, the sets were low budget and boxy way back then, but the new one has an engineering section the looks an awful lot like a brewery.
