Easter Chicks

With the Easter holiday only one week away, JK Brickworks prepared yet another fantastic mechanized model to celebrate!  If you're not familiar with Jason's work, you need to check out more of his models featured on his YouTube channel.  The detailing on this MOC is very nice, especially that nest using a mix of tiles and plates.  Though the detailing is outstanding, you can't fully appreciate it until you see the action.  Happy Easter!

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

City in a Tin

When life gives you lunchboxes, you make futuristic Toronto inside of them.  Canadian builder Simon Liu built his own version of his home city of Toronto in the future.  As part of the celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, Simon was given a decorative lunchbox.  Appropriately, he then decided to fill that box with LEGO, specifically a microscale city.  A very neat concept!  The shiny surface of the box gives a nice effect to the city's reflection.

LEGO Builder's Habitat

Every LEGO builder has one of these: their own build area.  A LEGO room.  A LEGO lair. . .AKA LEGO Man Cave.  Shall I go on?  I think you get the point.  Every LEGO builder organizes his collection differently, an aspect that become quite unique and creative on its own.  Now, pictured in this scene by Jsnyder002, many of our build areas probably look like a bit of a mess.  How familiar does this room look to you?  Is it like your collection, right now?  Furthermore, this "Out of Time" creation depicts the last few minutes a builder has to build and enter for a contest.  Sound familiar?  A lovely and true to life scene!

Handful Fighters

In time for the home release of Rogue One, Tim Goddard celebrates by creating an awesome small version of the now-famous U-Wing!  To make it even better, Tim added a small squadron of X-Wings to the mix for a wonderful display piece!  Tim was even able to get the folding wing feature to work on the U-Wing!  Pretty neat.  How are you celebrating the release of the film (besides watching it)?!  May the Force be with you.

Prepare for Launch

With the recent discussion about the latest LEGO Ideas project, let's look at a microscale space shuttle preparing for launch, built by Chris Malloy.  This little display is packed with some nice examples of NPU of basic parts, not only on the shuttle, but the support structure as well.  It appears that a new generation is off on a new adventure. . .in spaaaace!

BB-8 Gets Upgrades (Or Costumes)

Who knew that BB units could be customized to such great lengths?  I wonder which option Rey will go with first. . .  Builder Pangeran Panda has designed a grand total of 12 different modifications for one of our new favorite droids.  It also appears we have been given the crossovers between Star Wars, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Pokemon, and Hello Kitty that some fans may or may not have wanted.  Which model is your favorite?

Cookie Monster Got His Hair Dyed

Yet another incredibly creative build from this month's Iron Builder competition.  Legopard, one of two competitors, has brought your childhood monster-under-your-bed concept to life.  To me, though, I see a green version of Cookie Monster (not exactly sure why, I think it's the eyebrows and eyes).  I guess you could say he was looking for cookie crumbs underneath this child's bed.  Instead, it appears he found LEGO bricks and a top.  A wonderful concept that was arranged perfectly!  I'd love to hear how exactly the builder came up with this idea. . .

Enter a New Batmobile

Though February has come and gone, Batman builds are continuing to pop up (as to be expected).  The (debatable good / bad) film Batman V Superman introduced yet another variant of the Caped Crusader's famous vehicle, almost a mix of the Dark Knight Trilogy's Tumbler and the previous, sporty designs.  PsychoBrick46 has combined set and MOC to create an awesome, play-friendly model of the Batlfeck's Batmobile.  This vehicle was a highlight of the film, for sure.  Using the official LEGO set's cockpit design to make it movie accurate, the builder created a sleek yet tough appearance for his model.  Not a vehicle I would want to mess with, for sure!

Technique Tuesday - Damaged Wall

One of the best things about the LEGO community is that we can learn from one another.  Here at BrickNerd, we like to share techniques that we see from builders all around the world. . .

This week we're featuring another wall technique demonstrated by Mala43b.  Using 1x2 jumpers (tiles with studs in center) and normal 1x2 tiles, the builder gives an example of a heavily damaged structure.  A technique like this would fit perfectly in a city battle, perhaps with military tanks advancing on the town.  It's great to continue to see more wall techniques that have nice texture, but use common elements to great effect.  Build on, everyone!

Arthur Weasley & Floo Powder

The Ministry of Magic seemed very dark and gloomy in the Harry potter films.  When reading the novels, I always pictured it as a bright and colorful place to work.  For his Iron Builder round, Eero Okkonen has brought some much needed color to the Ministry.  How abut that Arthur Weasley figure, though?  The use of colors on him is just as creative as the fireplace.  Arthur here also features a technique for spectacles that I have not seen before, using handcuffs around the eyes (is that kind of ironic?).  Fifty points to Gryffindor!

Gryphondor!

Djokson's new "Black Gryphon" model is beastly.  The wings work incredibly well, and are my favorite parts of this build.  It's very interesting how the builder used many teeth elements and angled them to curve to bodily features, yet not leaving major gaps in the model (like the beak).  Here is a creature that many Griffindor students would be proud to wear on their Hogwarts robes!

We Have the Time for a Classic

A wonderful new model by A Plastic Infinity, with a very intriguing background effect.  H.G. Wells' Time Machine is an instantly recognizable device to many people in the world, and I believe it's safe to say it was replicated perfectly here. The red upholstery mixed with the brass elements and the colors of the dish work so well together.   I have a feeling this creation will be remembered in the coming future, not only because it could travel there.

Big Headed Troopers

There is one way to beat these guys.  "We will catch them off balance. . .Do what must be done, Lord Vader."  Jokes aside, Takamichi Irie built these comical characters using the helmet elements from the LEGO buildable character sets.  What isn't funny is how well these actually work together, incorporating other simple pieces to get accurate colors and appearances.  Very nicely done!

A wonderful series of builds created by BrickinNick, with a possible addition of Snapchat on the way.  The builder's Twitter symbol has my favorite inclusion of curves to create an accurate symbol, but Instagram is also very pristine and precise.  The builder has also been generous enough to provide LEGO Digital Designer instructions that are linked to on his Flikr Photostream, meaning you could build one yourself in order to promote some of your work!  Speaking of promotion, I can't think of a better opportunity to remind our old or any new followers that BrickNerd is also active on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube!  Show some love for your favorite gang of LEGO nerds!

A Ship Mechanic Turned Jedi

Inthert is a bit of a mechanic himself, creating wonderful Star Wars spaceship replicas.  However, this time, it seems to be the reverse.  Some spaceships were harmed in the making of this MOC.   Truly, this vignette speaks for itself.  All the greebling is spot-on, giving the awesome appearance of ship engine innards.  It also features some forgotten items of the past, including a Phase I Clone Trooper helmet and parts of old astromech droids (that's sad).  In the midst of the mess, it appears one mechanic has found a very ancient item of immense power.

How do you feel about LEGO's official Brickheadz line?  Are they not ugly enough for you?  Well, character creator Iain Heath has fixed that for you, creating his own line of Rejectz characters!  These heroes can take a beating. . .or already have?  Despite the exaggerated ugliness, each of these figures is still packed with character!  Which one has the face only a mother could love?

Nathaniel Stoner

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever. 

     My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here. 

A Dinner for One

Will you join Jsnyder002 for a serving of LEGO lobster?  Yet another charming entry for the ABS Builder Challenge.  This build seems oddly appropriate, and some of you may see the relation to the release of the lobster piece from the collectible Batman minifigures.  What makes this build special is all the individual items that make up the setting, and also that it's set in a "real life" way.  Check out these wonderful, realistic common household objects!  Oh, and that lobster looks delicious, too.

Elves Hard At Work Building

Jsnyder002 is bringing the winter holidays back with a recent build for the ABS Builder Challenge.  Some of Santa's loyal and diligent workers are crafting the toys of tomorrow!  Though the weather outside of the windows may be frightful, the inside has a warm and productive atmosphere.  The builder found a nice use for those micro minifigure statue pieces, turning them into painted and unpainted toy wooden soldiers.  Brilliant!  Happy holidays waaaay far in advance, everyone!

SPACE FIGHTS! SPACE FIGHTS!

Kit Bricksto presents:  Fist Fights. . .in. . .spaaaaace!  An interesting concept with an interesting presentation.  When the Alliance really need that cargo, they really mean it.  This skirmish is displayed on a black base that fades into the starry background, adding an interesting effect that I've never seen before.  Something else that intrigues me is that the builder chose to only build half....or actually more like a quarter of the Ghost.  The whole scene is composed well and differently.  Nice work!
