St. Gwydre's Church

This is gorgeous. Excellent building, excellent photography and excellent processing. This is the total package people. From a thumbnail you would swear it's just a picture of an old church. Not that this is the true goal of any MOC, but in this case it just doesn't get much better.  Outstanding work.

T52 Tweezer

I can't decide if this is a glimpse of the future, or a thing of nightmares. Either way it's really cool. Inspired by artwork by Keith Thompson (definitely more on the nightmare side), Piotr H. brings us this sinewy beast. 

"We're On A Mission From God"

Jake and Elwood never looked better than they do posing in front of this genius reproduction of the Bluesmobile. Yeah, it's not the Caddie. Yeah, Jake just got out of the joint. Yeah, it's a used police car. But it's got a lot of pick-up, a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks and it'll run on regular...just needs a new cigarette lighter.

Mr. Gameboy

Well this is a dapper little game cartridge. Like I've said, I'm a sucker for Nintendo, and this little guy is awesome. Great building techniques to get the iconic shape of the classic Gameboy cartridge plus excellent anthropomorphization (there's a five dollar word for ya). Makes me want to dust off the Tetris.

Everard Lodge

This post has been days coming, as Flickr user Mark of Falworth has been slowly revealing this masterpiece. Now that it's complete, I can share, and you can gawk. Look at those colors, the terrain work, the waterfall, the trees, the lodge...good grief this thing's got a lot going on. And it's all gorgeous.

The IT Crowd is one of my favorite UK comedies, and Moss is my favorite character. Moss' enthusiasm for technology can sometimes trip him up though, like the time he saw an iPhone in a crane machine... 

Manta Wing

This MOC evokes retro future romanticism, and it's beautiful. It feels like something you'd see in the 1940's "Things to come" news reels. Ages ago I worked on a film called Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and this craft would be right at home in it. Nice compositing as well, great images. All that and it looks pretty swooshable too.

Tilt!

This MOC combines some of my favorite things; LEGO, iPhone and pinball. Ok, I rarely play pinball, but it's the first place I go in the unlikely event I'm in an arcade. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

"Tack..Tack..Tack..Tack...Kuh-Ching...Swish..Clunk"

Matt Armstrong (AKA Monsterbrick) has always been one of my favorite builders. From his imagination comes some serious whimsy and mayhem. This steampunk retro typewriter is a perfect example of his style.  

UNSC Falcon

Part Osprey, part Apache, all badass. This ship by Flickr user Lego Junkie is pretty sweet, with lots of little details to love. I especially like the transition from the cockpit to the hull and the air intakes (yes, subtle, but the genius is always in the details). The teeth and eye under the canopy is a nice touch too. 

Stay On Target...

This little vignette is too cool not to share. From my favorite movie of all time and one of the best scenes. It's hard to look at this and not have John Williams' stirring trumpets and Ben Burtt's howling engines in my head. I want this on my desk.

Mako Class Torpedo Cruiser

This fine ship by Flickr user halfbeak is a great example of how an excellent model doesn't have to have a huge part count or super elaborate design. It's clean, appealing and slick. Check out the use of droid legs as struts and the graduated cylinders on the engine nacelles.

The Brickism Movement

This is a fascinating piece, three dimensional modern interpretation of two dimensional Mondrian De Stijl art. It suffers a bit from somewhat dingy bricks and the lighting could be better, but it's still quite nice. I'd like to see this on an even bigger scale, I think it would be captivating. Imagine this standing about three feet tall and displayed at eye level. As you walked around it would be in continuous change, and surprise you with a clean grid four times. Nice work Veynom.
 

S7-D "Charon" - Desert Marauder

This awesome little hardsuit comes to us from Flickr user LowestForm0fWit. There's a lot of very clever part use going on in a very small space. Those hands, Minifig armor, the thighs, battle droid heads, the feet, droid bodies. There's even a pair of bucket handles on the knees. Being a bit of a purist, I do take exception with the sacrifice of droid arms for fingers, but I do wish we had similar parts from LEGO for this very purpose. And it's posable too, a very clever build indeed.

LEGO Microscope

This is beautiful. From a thumbnail you would swear it's just a microscope, but clearly it's a LEGO work of art. And just when you're done admiring the aesthetics, you learn that it actually works. Or at least is capable of focusing on the lettering on a stud. 

Land Ship Amagosa

You can't look at this picture and not be drawn in. It's like an oil derrick, mechanical walker and shanty town in one. Can't you just imagine it, through a haze dust and heat distortion, rumbling toward you in slow motion?  It's a compelling piece in the still, but how about this, it's motorized and actually walks (see the video). Nice work Jason Allemann.

Mmmm, Blackened Sausages

Flickr user Karf Oohlu brings us this MOC of a troll in his kitchen. There's a lot going on here, which I love. It's one of those builds that you can look at as a whole and appreciate, then you start taking in the details, and they just keep coming. 

Skinsuit

This ship's a beauty. Who would have thought brown, white and gold would go together so well? And the photography is top notch, which on a model like this isn't easy. See how the light plays on the canopy and contours the guns on front? What would otherwise have been very difficult to see against the dark background is instantly recognizable.  

GERI

No time to say much about this, my plane is about to board. It was just too cool not to share. I love a MOC that's difficult to judge scale on, it means some seriously cool building took place. It's a micro, but you wouldn't know it.

The Right Weapon For The Job

Creatively lighting a MOC for photography can be tricky, very tricky. It's usually hours of trial and error and continual camera tweaks trying to get the right exposure, depth of field and light control. So when I see a picture like this I can appreciate what went into it. That, or it's a couple flashlights and pure luck (but hey, I appreciate that too). Regardless, this is a nice shot, and it's funny.
