What I wouldn't give for one of these babies. Can you imagine the possibilities of time travel? I could go back to 1990 and tell myself not to wear those stupid muscle pants! This brilliant recreation of the time machine was created by AFOL turned LEGO designer Carlmerriam, and I think H.G. himself would be impressed.
I don't know how much of the mechanization of this way cool steampunk owl from madLEGOman is functional, and that's part of the brilliance of this build. It's apparently inspired by set 70164 Hurricane Heist but for me the transformation is complete. And I have to say, this is heads and tails (see what I did there?) above the set.
Builder 2 Much Caffeine imagines a city powered by steam, buzzing with electricity and fueled by fun. This was a build for Brick2014 in the UK, and features motorized functions and a multitude of lighting effects, including a lava lamp! I don't know that I'd want to live in this town, but you can bet I would visit.
I so love it when I'm scrolling though my Flickr feed and with no conscience decision find myself going "oooooooooh". When this happens you can bet it's a unique or particularly stunning MOC, and this craft by The /\rchitect is both of those, and more. It's simultaneously gorgeous and baffling, as your eyes and brain try to make sense of it. It's like the illegitimate love-child of the Slave One and H.G. Wells, and it's spectacular.
Venerable car builder and auto enthusiast Lino Martins has broken new ground with this masterful MOC. It's a unique and mind-blowing mashup of car, train, steampunk and black magic (and they said it couldn't be done). I think both Grampa Munster or James T. West's arch enemy Lovelace would look right at home in this dark beast.
Steampunk is one of those things that's easy to appreciate but difficult to describe. You can look at a costume, a prop or MOC and say "oh, that's steampunk", but you may struggle to explain why. Sure you can throw some brown and brass together, and add a gear or two and call it steampunk, but you may find others do not agree. At it's core, steampunk is a reimagining of technology and lifestyles from the mid to late 19th century. Juxtaposing modern advances with a Victorian aesthetic. When it's done right it's magical, and you find yourself transported back in time. Guy Himber, the author of this book, does it right.

I'm about to age myself again. I learned to type on a typewriter...in high school. Yes, we had computers back then, but they weren't in every classroom, and typing was considered a very good skill to have so we sat at rows and rows of typewriters hacking out fff jjj ddd kkk. For the record they were more advanced than this steampunk version by timofey_tkachev, but nowhere near as beautiful. Just look a the styling and details on this baby, gorgeous.
There have been a great many steamy Star Wars MOCs in recent weeks, thanks to our pals at FBTB and their MOC Madness Steam Wars contest. I know I haven't featured many here, I'm not sure why really. But this one from builder Legopard just had to be featured. I really dig the giant plumes of steam bellowing out of the engines of this Podracer, and if course Watto's junk shop reimagined as a victorian "junkvilla", but I'm totally smitten with that mechanical dewback.
Hoot! This steam powered mechanical owl by vitreolum looks ready for flight, or at least ready to dispense lollipop consumption tips (brownie points to whoever gets that). He kinda reminds me of Bubo, from the eighties classic (albeit, pretty terrible) Clash of the Titans.
It's MOCs like these that make me sad I can't get to the east coast LEGO conventions. This wonderfully whimsical diorama by CaptainInfinity is chock-full-o steampunky goodness. There's a lot going on here, unfortunately there's no other pictures so you're going to have to click through and check out the giant version of this pic.
We have a new weapon in the fight against the evil colonial empire, the Arc 170 PunkFighter. We have word that Commodore Tarkin and his right hand man Lord Byron von Vaderham have moved forces closer to the 180th parallel. This modern age vessel should help us turn the tide.

Imagine if you will professional paranormal investigation and elimination services at the turn of the century, it would have to look like this. Yes, builder Bausteineck has done a steampunk ghostbusters mashup and the results speak for themselves.
If you've built or even seen Metalbeard's Sea Cow, you know what a fantastic abundance of steamy goodness it is. Well, here is some proof, Dwalin Forkbeard's Steam Locomotive. I see a lot of Sea Cow parts in here, used to great effect. I especially like the use of the giant turbine on the side, quite iconic. And the cab is quite lovely.
The "Intrépide" class observation dirigible offers unprecedented sights as you soar high above the rooftops. It is a miracle of modern science for the discerning gentleman and it can be yours. This is more than just 'lighter than air' flight, it is first class sky transportation.

It's been a while since we've had a good dose of steampunk here on BrickNerd. Luckily this excellent little gyrocopter by Dwalin Forkbeard came along. I've seen the ewok hang glider wings used before but they are particularly effective on this MOC, and the mechanical doohickyness of this bird is brilliant.
Can LEGO be sexy? I say this is evidence in favor of that. Meet Miss Izzy Orchard, a steampunk creation by Pate-keetongu. I can honestly say that no matter how many times I've looked at the minifigure ruff, I've never thought "garter".
I don't know what goblins and orcs have against trees, but I have to admire their ingenuity, and their steampunky aesthetics. The Oak Shredder is clearly quite the labor saving device. And not only does it make quick work of whatever trees are around, it looks like a blast to drive. Nice work captainsmog.
If I had a dollar for every time I spotted a Russian folklore inspired steampunk walking battle ready chicken hut...well, I could almost afford a Big Gulp. This whimsical and charming MOC by Dwalin Forkbeard is just that, and while a little difficult to wrap your head around, it's not hard to appreciate clever building and fun design.
