REJECTZ

What you hear "Disney Princess" what do you think of? A classic fairytale, with a lost glass slipper, or a houseful of dwarves? A headstrong young woman setting out to make her mark on the world? Poofy dresses and glittery hair? How about a band of horribly deformed ladies only a mother could love? That's Ochre Jelly's take on it, and that's the magic of Disney.

The Happiest Place On Earth

You all know what a Disneyland fan I am and whenever LEGO meets the happiest place on earth you instantly have my attention. To this day when I pick up a classic LEGO wavy flag I don't think castle, I think Disneyland. So this recreation of the classic Disneyland sign along with all these other fantastic MOCs by builder TJJohn12 makes my geek heart go pitter patter. Look for this and many other Disney inspired MOCs in the latest issue of BrickJournal, including some instructions by me!

The Sky Is Falling!

OK, not really, but it certainly kinda feels like it these days. But this MOC by alanboar wasn't built to lament a world gone wild, but to celebrate Chinese New Year. It's Chicken Little, from the Disney film of the same name. I haven't seen the movie in years, but we have it on DVD somewhere, and I recall laughing out loud at the dodgeball dance scene, so maybe it's time to watch it again.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is such an amazing piece of cinematic history. The quirky design, the unforgettable music, the phenomenal stop-motion animation. It's really no wonder it's such a fan favorite. Those quirky designs make for some serious build challenges to those endeavoring to recreate them in LEGO, but as you can see, with some mad skills like J.B.F, it can be done.

And The Winners Are...

It's the moment you've all been waiting for, the winners of Nerdvember 2016. I've said it before and I'll say it again, BrickNerd readers are the most talented, imaginative and awesome builders in the world. I heard it over and over from the judges this year,  "so many good ones". It made it a joy to watch, and difficult to judge, but eventually three winners emerged, here they are in reverse order...

3rd Place
"Take me to your Nerdly..." - ted @ndes

Those lovable aliens from Disney Pixar's Toy Story. It's hard to believe this movie was considered "risky" when it was made. Turns out good story telling is good story telling, who knew?

"Take me to your Nerdly..."

2nd Place
Nerdly Genie - Palixa And The Bricks

You've never had a friend like him! It's the lovable Genie from Aladdin, voiced by the late, great Robin Williams in the role he was born to play.

Nerdly Genie

1st Place
Hatbox Ghost Nerdly - rabidnovaracer

It's a Disneyland legend that recently became a reality, the Hatbox Ghost was an illusion that didn't quite work when the ride opened, and was allegedly removed shortly after (there is much debate about this). This is the first time my personal favorite was the judges' fave too.

Hatbox Ghost Nerdly!

Congratulations to our winners, and thanks again to all that entered. I'd also like to thank the sponsors of this event, you're all awesome. See you next Nerdvember!

And before you ask...
My three favorites were Hatbox Ghost, Steamboat Nerdly and Mickey Mouse Nerdly
I didn't vote
I use a ranking system for voting, judges are asked to give their favorite three in order, a score of 3 is assigned to first, 2 to second and 1 to third.
Judges will remain anonymous ( you know who you are, and you're awesome)

Eve

Character design and animation at Pixar is pretty amazing. If you saw a sketch of Eve from Wall-E before you saw the movie, you would scarcely suspect she was capable of the range of emotions required for the film, but she was. You might also have suspected she would be pretty much impossible to build with LEGO, but thanks to builder LuisPG2015 you can see it's not

All Hail The Pumpkin King

I'm proud to say I saw The Nightmare Before Christmas in the theater. We had little idea what we were in for, Disney didn't have much confidence in the project (so much so they released it under the Touchstone banner) and wasn't throwing it's usual advertising blitz at the world. We were blown away to say the least. It was some time before Disney really picked up on what a truly unique and absolute classic it was, and it's popularity has only grown since, as evidenced by this inspired build by builder HCK_1974. Not bad for a little movie that was "too scary for kids, too silly for adults".

BrickNerd LiveBuild - Disney Castle - Part 2

It's time for another round of Disney magic! Yesterday we started building the Disney Castle, and over the course of about 5 hours we managed to get just over half way done. It's a magnificent set, full of wonderful details and interesting techniques.

Join us today as we finish it. Building starts at 9am PST, see you then!

BrickNerd LiveBuild - Disney Castle - Part 1

We're huge Disney fans at our house. We go to Disneyland several times a year, we're Disney Vacation Club owners and we can't get enough of Begal BBQ and Dole Whips. Obviously we're also huge fans of LEGO (duh) so when those worlds collide you can bet we get excited. Join me and Mrs BrickNerd live for the next two days starting 9am PST as we build the new Disney Castle. It's going to be a magical time!

We're Going To Build The Disney Castle LIVE!

Me and Mrs BrickNerd were considering visiting Disneyland this weekend, but then this showed up in the mail. Yes, thanks to a little Disney magic, pixie dust and LEGO generosity we're bringing Disneyland to us. Yes, technically this is from Magic Kingdom in Florida, and we're west coasters, but we love Disney World too, just can't get there as often. This is going to be an epic build, so we're going to split it into two days. Starting this Friday, Sept 16th at 9am PST and continuing on Saturday at 9am PST we're going to tackle this mighty but magical set, join us!

This Is How You Feature Minifigures

Builders Jme Wheeler and Daniel Konstanski did a series of vignettes to show off the Disney Collectible Minifigure series for issue 22 of Blocks. I never saw this issue (it's a UK based mag) but  I love how these turned out. Each is wonderfully detailed and totally unique, and highlights the characters perfectly. I couldn't find any of Daniel's online, but click through to see a couple more by Jme.

Poor, Simple Fools (Maleficent)
We're All Mad Here (Alice)

Finding Dory

I have a terrible confession to make, I haven't seen Finding Dory yet. Yes, I'm a huge Disney and Pixar fan, and that would be reason enough to be shameful, but Angus MacLane, one of the directors of the film is actually a friend, so I hang my head in disgrace. it is a problem I intend to correct very soon, but in the mean time I have some fabulous MOCs by radiohearhoy to admire,

A Recreated Classic

When most people think of LEGO and Disney together, they think it's a fairly recent collaboration, think again. Way back when LEGO was a wooden toy manufacturer Pluto was a popular product, in fact, it's the first licensed product LEGO ever made. Although no one seems to be sure what year it was released, it was probably in the early 1940's. Builder, author and AFOL community legend Joe Meno has recreated this classic with a charming style that just has to be born of true Disney magic.

Mickey And Minnie

Mickey and Minnie have been an item since before I was born, so you know it's been a looooong time. And while they've never been officially married and don't live together (and according to Mrs BrickNerd it's "because they're smart") they're as classic a couple as you can get. This MOC by bricks.life.idea celebrates their love in a charming and magical way.

Quack Quack, Stomp Stomp

Look out Mechy Mouse, there's some stompy competition in town courtesy of Moko. I'm going to be vacationing at the Disneyland resort in July, so I think there's enough time for the Imagineers to get going on some of these. I mean floats are nice, and I do watch a parade from time to time, but if these were clomping down Main Street, I would so be there.

Flights Departing Daily

We all know what a Disney geek I am, we go to Disneyland all time despite the fact that it's over three hours away. And as much as I love Space Mountain, I rarely ride it. The line is always long, and when you're a frequent visitor like us, we just don't do long lines (it'll be there next time). Plus there's something about the geometry of the ride vehicle and my body, it just beats the crap out of me every time I ride. I never rode the one in Orlando though, and I didn't realize the cars were different, as illustrated here in this absolutely brilliant MOC by jtheels. So perhaps on my next visit to Florida I'll give it a go. And now I want to be at Disneyland...
