Graveyard Shift

Isn't it fascinating how fast computers developed and continue to advance? The acceleration curve of progress is almost as steep as the one tracking people's tendency to use them for nefarious purposes. This scene by builder Profound Whatever was inspired by a time before Nigerian princes and keyboard cat, when all the computing had to be done in large rooms. Your smart watch likely has more computing power than this room, let that sink in.

Afternoon Tea

I really wish tea was more popular in America. I know there's plenty of tea drinkers here, but nothing compared to the UK. And afternoon tea is just not a thing here (well, it is for me). I would love to see more scenes like this one from MinifigNick in real life, adults taking a break from a busy day to enjoy a delicious beverage and some conversation. Although these days I'm pretty certain it would just look like a Starbucks, with everyone on their phone or laptop. I'll just have to content myself with occasional afternoon tea at Steakhouse 55 at Disneyland (which, by the way, is delightful)

Alien Nerve Center

I love it when a builder revisits a MOC. I don't mean dust it off and maybe swap out a few pieces, I mean when they take the original concept and totally revamp it, taking advantage of new parts and colors. Builder mihaimariusmihu has done just that with this disturbingly beautiful alien apparatus. Not only did the MOC get revamped, but there's an elaborate back story as well, click through to read.

Deadline?

This isn't the first time I don't understand what I'm posting, and I'm sure it won't be the last (I am exceptionally ignorant). I understand the clock, we're one minute to midnight, and builder The Chosen One calls this "Deadline!", which I assume is connected to the time. I don't know enough about chemistry to understand what molecule that is. And is that a huge clock or a tiny katana? So many questions...

Trophy Room

One of the best things about building competitions is the smack talk and creative use of MOCs to intimidate as well as impress. During the finale of the ABS Builder Challenge, Mark of Falworth wanted to illustrate his trophy shelf still has space for one more, and what better way to do it than with this brilliant little interior.

Barber Shop

My first reaction upon seeing this lovely barber shop interior by builder Heksu was "I need a haircut", I view that as a positive since it wasn't "hey, look at the LEGO". I saw it as a real place that could take care of the disaster area on top of my head. Fun fact: I used to be the make-up artist for the local chapter of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (it's a real thing, look it up).

Bohemian Living Room

I'm a sucker for a clean interior, and a sucker for retro style, so naturally this excellent interior by builder Heksu caught my attention. I like the additional detail of some buildings in the distance outside. The flat panel on the wall gives this away as a modern scene, but the styling is very retro.

Repair Bay

How could it possibly be that a monochrome empty room could be so compelling? That's the magic of primo building skills combined with excellent lighting and good photography. But then again I would expect nothing less from premiere space builder Legoloverman. I can't wait to see what will eventually occupy this glorious space.

Dreams

I'm a big proponent of "dreaming big" and making your own future happen, so this nifty concept by Mark van der Maarel speaks to me. It's a vignette split into two time periods, made even more intriguing with a dream turned into reality. Don't let anyone squash your dreams, you can do it, just don't give up.

Belly Up To The Bar

Builder simply bricking it posed a fun challenge when they posted this nifty pub interior. There's a lot of pretty cool techniques and part use here, and the builder has tasked us with finding...

1) Pirate's Rope Bridge.
2) Friend's Lipsticks
3) Minifigure Drills.
4) Scala Benches
5) Minifigure Sweeping Brushes

Maker Space

Makers gonna make. I believe everyone is a maker, some may just have not discovered it yet. I've spent my entire life with an overwhelming need to create, and rarely a day goes by that I don't create something from nothing, or at least make progress on a larger something. And all that stuff needs to be created somewhere, like my studio, your dad's wood shop, your mom's craft room, everyone's LEGO corner or this hover bike workshop from LEGOMINDED. It doesn't matter how messy or clean it is, or your budget or square feet, what matters is it feeds your need to create, allows that spark to happen, helps you MAKE.

Stonmer Manor

People don't live in castles much any more, but when they did I bet they wish they had a great hall like the one in Stonmer Manor by Mitah Val Karem, especially during a cold winter. The two giant giant fire pits keeps it nice and cozy in there I'm sure. And I think if this was my great hall, there would be some seriously cool retractable grills and/or rotisseries for some awesome BBQ.

Leather Couch

This swanky yet inviting interior by builder Heksu makes me want to pour an appletini, put on a classic movie and chill. The color selection and texturing really implies the couch is made of leather, but my favorite detail is the pictures, which are all printed and framed. The books on the trunk are a nice homey detail too.

This Chair Is Shockingly Uncomfortable

As sad as it is, there are still humans so bad, so awful, so unforgivable that the only choice is to eliminate them. And for many this is the final destination, a terribly uncomfortable chair with the sole purpose of ending human life. This piece by builder Anthony SÉJOURNÉ is a sobering reminder that we have a long way to go as a species. 

Antique Style

You know a good signal you're getting old? When furniture and artifacts of your youth start being described as antique (also, when songs from high school are being played on the "oldies" station). I almost scrolled right past this retro interior build by Heksu. I just thought it was a picture of someone's living room from the thumbnail. One of my favorite mistakes to make.

Retro Modern Flair

This is a living room I'd like to hang out in. You know, play some Cards Against Humanity, watch a movie (let's say...Without a Clue, a really underrated film) and have a fun cocktail with friends. The cool retro modern style is so inviting, like a time capsule of the 60's combined with contemporary sensabilities. Nicely done terez trz.

Never Get Them Wet

I dig a good MOC that tells a story, and one based on a classic 80's movie is even better. Here we see Stripe taking advantage of a convenient water source to make some friends courtesy of builder LEGOMINDED. The use of the pom-poms here for pop up mogwais is pretty inspired, poor Gizmo.

Octoberfest

Suddenly I'm craving beer and pretzels, not good considering it's 6:45 am, but I have a good excuse. Check out all the fun this group of minifigures is having in this charming and super detailed scene by MinifigNick. Well, maybe not that guy in the middle, he seems to have overdone it perhaps.

Zaintiraris Chamber

Have you ever got to any point in any game where you thought, "I should have saved", yeah, of course you have. Play any game for long enough and you'll get a better feel for when you might be in peril, or just pay attention to the giant weapons, numerous sharp objects and remains of previous hapless adventurers and perhaps get a hint? The question is, what did you do Xenomurphy?

Ninja Ambush At Wukong's Palace

It looks like the tranquility in Wukong's Palace in Keyama is about to be shattered. There's a lot of cool details in this build by mkjosha. Check out the cool floor patterning in the back, as well as the asymmetrical pond under the bridge. If it wasn't for that attacking ninja, I'd like to hang out in this place for a little while.
