Read MoreThis looks like a pretty good plant for my house. For one, thanks to the building skills of Takamichi Irie, it's beautiful. It's also interesting, a moss covered ball of soil with a decorative plant growing out of it. And it's plastic, so I can't kill it. Actually, come to think of it, it's LEGO so it's delicate...it's doomed at my house.
"Nature" isn't probably the first thing you think about when considering everyone's favorite building bricks. But as you can see from this marvelous sculpture by builder qi_tah, nature is not only quite possible with LEGO, it's positively gorgeous. The color palette allows for everything from the rustic earth tones of the scenery to the eye popping colors of these fantastic birds.
The Classic Castle Contest is currently under way, and I'm loving it. Every couple days, there are several absolute gems that pop up in my feed. This peaceful Oriental bridge scene by 'LL' is one of my favorites so far. The bridge perfectly evokes classic Eastern architecture, and very cleverly uses the old rope bridge pieces for the arch. But what I like best about this build are those trees. The grey trunks compliment the fall leaves very nicely, and the addition of some roots really makes them look accurate.
I watched a lot of nature shows when I was a kid, so when I saw this shot of Miro Dudas' new moc, I could almost hear David Attenborough's voice. Built for a contest on Eurobricks, Miro has captured the action perfectly. The fox, listening to it's prey scurrying beneath the snow, almost has a smile on its face, ready to strike. Lunchtime!
Can a MOC center you? I'd argue this one can. Ancient growing and pruning techniques meets skilled building techniques in this bonsai by Emil Lidé and the results are stunning. From a distance you'd swear it's just a little plant, but up close it's a marvel of construction. You really can't appreciate how this is built from these images, I encourage you to click through and check out the high res images.
I can't tell from the picture what geographical region is depicted in this lovely MOC by KOS brick, but I like to imagine I'm seeing this view between my feet as I relax on a deck chair sipping some exotic drink with some fruit stuck on the rim, brought to me by a bronze goddess speaking with captivating accent...maybe I need a vacation?
As cool as the Birds set from LEGO Ideas was, I think this owl from 6kyubi6 is way better (especially compared to that dreadful hummingbird). And the coolness doesn't stop there, the leaves on the branch are actually almost cooler than the owl, almost. Combine those with some excellent photography and you've got a winning MOC.
