Read MoreIf there’s a more poignant image of the pending global predicament we’ve managed to heap upon ourselves I don’t know what it is (besides most of the Jersey Shore under water maybe, stay tuned). I live about 100 feet above sea level, and when I bought this home 20 years ago I didn’t think it may become beach front property some day (ok, it won’t, but I’m lucky I live 11 miles from the beach). A moving image from vincentkiew.
Builder city son is back after a six month hiatus and it was worth the wait. Lay your eyes on this magnificent creation featuring a tiger, mandrill (and her baby) two parrots and the reason I’m up so early this morning, a skunk! Yes, we slept with the back door open last night and right about 5am we were jarred awake by the unmistakeable odor of a skunk, my bedroom is still off limits (whew!). Click through for individual pics of all the wonderful animals of this build.
I recall going to circus when I was young. I also recall it being rather unnerving and I’ve never been back. I really got the impression those animals wanted nothing to do with what was going on, and the trapeze artists had a seriously undeveloped sense of self preservation. But I’m totally digging this circus by builder DOGOD Brick Design, from it’s pop up backdrop to the meticulously crafted and bursting with character animals, it’s all delightful.
As a child I remember having a cute music box with an angel that would come out and dance to a soothing melody. It was a charming item, but I’m sure my childhood self wouldn’t have minded to also have this sick music box by LEGO 7. The animals are just having a blast and there’s soo much energy that I can’t help but rock my head back and forth to the sweet tunes of ACDC. Rock on my little dudes. Rock on.
I have to admit, Chinese New Year might be better than any other new year. Sure we stay up til midnight drinking and then make a lot of noise (and spend the whole next day nursing a hangover), but there’s no dragons! And we don’t have an official animal every year, which is pretty neat. Speaking of neat, builder vincentkiew has assembled this excellent collection of the entire Chinese zodiac. While they’re all very cool, the dragon and the monkey are my faves.
Seven Facts About Seahorses:
They have no teeth or stomach
The male is the one that gives birth.
They are masters of disguise.
A baby seahorse is called a “fry” (isn't that cute?)
They’re actually poor swimmers.
A group of seahorses is called a “herd”
When built in LEGO, like this one by Brother Steven, they are especially adorable.
Owls were fascinating to me before I became a Potter fan, so you can imagine how much they are now. I would love to have a pet owl, especially one that could find my friends and deliver mail, how cool would that be? But I’ll have to be content to dream, and admire them in photos, an occasional terrifying flyover in the dark (it’s pretty unsettling), and this excellent brick version by builder Simon NH.
For Bricks Cascade 2018, builder dviddy wanted to pay tribute to his adopted home town of Portland Oregon with this wonderful white stag. It's inspired by the iconic sign above the west side of the Burnside Bridge and built with a clever combination of Bionicle, Technic and System parts.
Chinese New Year is upon us, and like every year the animal that is celebrated starts to pop up on Flickr. This year it's the rooster, and brilliant designs are showing up every day like this one from builder DOGOD Brick Design. He may not be as flashy as a dragon, or as cheeky as a monkey, but he's proud and regal, ruler of the barnyard.
Brickolaje has put together a great little set of various Sci-fi vehicles for the cute pets from the Friends line. Each one shows the pose of it's respective pilot really well. He also built a hangar bay for the vehicles, check it out on his Flickr page!
