I know how you feel Santa, I'm tired too. But tonight's your night, I promise we'll put out some delicious cookies for you. And I've been super good, really! Now, I'd like a Steadicam, some new Canon lenses, a slider dolly, some LED panels, a butterfly frame and black background, some flags, some apple boxes, a junior cart, oh and a LEGO death star, an X-wing...
I recall many Christmases from my childhood, some more vividly than others. One in particular was a good year, in addition to my Planet of the Apes Treehouse and cool art easel, me and my brother both got football uniforms. Neither of us were particularly into football but what kid doesn't want to armor up and ransack the house? I got Rams, my brother got 49ers... Sorry, it's Christmas eve and this MOC reminded me of that. Speaking of which, HOLY COW LOOK AT THIS THING! This is one of the finest examples of brick-built logo and lettering I've ever seen. Builder Tobias Buckdahn also did a time lapse of the build, you can bet I'll be watching this over and over.
Telling a story with LEGO bricks via still photo takes a lot of setup and posing, along with the right camera angle and focus. Seth Christie pulls this off nicely throughout his Night Before Christmas series by focusing on the story elements in the photo instead of on the actual build itself. To some builders this may seem counterproductive as blurring out the background and cropping things tightly does not show off all your hard work. However, by focusing on the central elements Seth is able to tell us a story with the LEGO brick medium.
Up until this point we have talked mostly about the story part of Seth Christie's Night Before Christmas build. In today's two posts we will be take a look at some of the details that make this series so special. Specific things of note are the use of screwdrivers for chain pulls on the two floor lamps (brilliant), use of minifigure legs for the wall baseboard and don't even get me started on the fireplace.
And why not, there's snow everywhere (except where I live, but I'm pretty OK with that), they get to build snow men (their favorite thing to do), and everyone sings "White Christmas" (they think it's about them, but please don't tell them it's not, it'll break their hearts). Nice build Nick.
I really can't get enough of these Brick Sketches by Chris McVeigh. And with Christmas only three days away I'm not sure how Santa had time to pose for this (I guess being in Canada helps for proximity to the north pole?) but I'm glad he did.
Nothing says Christmas spirit quite like the desperate acts of a pop star to stay relevant eh? As silly as this is, I would actually hang it on my tree. Iain Heath does it again!
So, I've listened to the names of Santa's reindeer hundreds of times before, but it never registered that he had one named Cupid. The big guy must have lost a bet with the patron mascot of Valentine's day... or something.
These are so very charming. Kosmas Santosa has started what I hope is a long series of dog MOCs. Each is a specific breed and they're all adorable. The pictures almost look like illustrations they're so well done, and I wouldn't be surprised to find them in a book (hint hint Kos). I'm hoping a Corgi is on the list if there's going to be more of these.
Ah Santa, what an amazing fella'. To think that he can deliver presents to all the good little kiddos on planet earth it one night boggles the mind. Does he have some kind of warp sleigh, teleportation device, or thousands of Santa drones? Who knows, but he gets the job done.
This is a seriously eye-grabbing MOC. The tag team tournament at BrickPirate.net is challenging builders to build their avatars in graffiti mode. I love the use of the lime green against the black, it's contrasty and dynamic.
If you've seen Disney's Frozen, you are probably now in love with it's diminutive comic relief, Olaf. From his warm hugs to his fascination with summer, and from his witty one-liners to his continual reconfiguration, he steals the show. BrickJournal's own Joe Meno took his love to the next level and built Olaf in bricks...and took him to his favorite place, the beach.
This is positively gorgeous. There is a fair amount of custom parts on this holiday train by Orion Pax, and it's so much the better for it. The color combinations and chrome gold accents come together in an absolutely lovely presentation.
A window, a simple thing, yet so masterfully created by Seth Christie for his Night Before Christmas series. I believe this is the first time I have seen a double hung window created in LEGO bricks. The shutters, the siding, the window and the excellent choice of minifig configuration bring this set all together and add life to what otherwise could have been a boring build.
Mark of Falworth is one of my favorite castle builders, and builds like this are the reason why. It's not just a matter of scale, detail, story or clever part use that takes a MOC to the next level. It's a marriage of all the right elements in harmonious balance. This is a thing of beauty.
The team behind LEGO Space: Building The Future would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas. And what better way to deliver the message than a high tech sled pulled by a robotic reindeer? It's the Rapid Uni-Directional Ordnance and Light Personnel Hauler! Ho ho ho!
It's hard to believe this movie is already twenty years old. I still have vivid memories of seeing it for the first time. I was absolutely blown away. The animation, the characters, the imagination, the music. It was a perfect storm that the world wasn't quite ready for. But it's now seen for the masterpiece that it is. This MOC by Gabe Umland is a charming little tribute.
Artists are a peculiar breed. Sometimes doing odd things for the sake of doing them, or for...art. They engage in strange behavior in front of large numbers of people, for whatever reason. Like the guy that built the MOCs of these two poor guys trying to enjoy a meal, sheesh.
After reviewing tonight's images of the poem Twas' The Night Before Christmas, one thing that kept going through my mind was how much I wanted to live in this little LEGO brick house so expertly built by Seth Christie. His builds thus far have been elegant, but not over-the-top, giving the creations a more storybook look and feel.
