Sprint Cars

Sprint car racing is pretty impressive to watch. They actually race them in a nearby town and I've been a couple times. The speed is fast, the track is small, the smell is pungent, the sound is loud and the crashes are spectacular. They are small too, you don't so much get in them as much as you "put them on". Speaking of small, check out these two in bricks by Lino M...perfect. 

Jaguar XK-SS

I'm not much of a car guy, but I do love a vintage roadster, and in the 50's Jaguar was one of the car makers doing it right. They were also big in the racing scene, and this 1957 beauty by rabidnovaracer was the combination of the two. When several unsold race cars were left over at the end of the race season, Jaguar converted them to street use. They must have been a thrill. 

Cactus

Who knew the plants would be such allies when the zombies attacked? And who knew that so many people could be so entertained by anthropomorphized vegetation doing battle with formerly living cartoon humans? And who knew that brick-build personifications of said vegetation could be so adorable? Nice build Lego Bunny.

Steampunk Meat Wagon And Hunting Party

Why let the lack of rails stop your needs for hunting and forward progress? Climb about this steam powered wonder of the age and set out for adventure and big game. All of the modern comforts abound including padded seating, gas lamp lighting and spring suspension. Wonderful steampunky goodness from builder redfern1950s.

Party At Benny's

It's party time! There's a whole lot to love about this imaginative party scene by builder Priovit70. From the excellent space station room to the humorous and detailed characters attending the party. It's clear that Priovit70 is channeling his inner Pete Reid, with blips and a turtle in attendance. But my favorite touches are the xenomorph and the Spock cameo, brilliant. 

Bionicle Horse

You don't see much Bionicle on this blog. It's not that I have anything against it, it's just not generally an aesthetic that catches my attention. But this lovely horse MOC by nobu_tary totally caught my eye this morning. It's got a strength and weight to it that's fitting to a noble beast, and an armored and mechanical touch that makes it badass. Great pose-ability too.

Ant Man

So Ant Man opened yesterday, did you go? I didn't make it, but hopefully I'll get there soon. If the hype at San Diego Comic Con is any indication it's a pretty fun movie. Speaking of fun, builder Powerpig is back with one of his iconic Brick Sketches, and like the rest of the genius series, it doesn't disappoint.

Hubba Hubba Hubba, Money Money Money, Who Do You Trust?!

I don't care if it's cool to bash on Burton's Batman, I'm not gonna. When it came out in 1989 I was super busy at work and didn't get to it for a couple weeks. In that time I listened to all my coworkers and friends bash on it for some reason or another. So When I finally went to see it my expectations were understandably really low...I LOVED it. Keaton is still my favorite Batman and Bruce. And while I find Jack's makeup a bit distracting, his Joker was pretty awesome. I think builder Cpt. Brick is in my camp, judging by this brilliant MOC of Joker's parade at the end of the movie.

Swiss Army Droid

I know this started as an official set (which just so happens to be one of my favorite sets ever) but builder LEGO Will has taken it to another level with these modifications. We've all enjoyed watching our favorite little astromech save the day over and over again while revealing yet another hidden tool. And as many as we see here, it's not all of them.

King Joe

Yes, his head looks a bit like a boom box. Yes, his hips are a bit baffling. But this is King Joe, and he's here to stomp some Ultraseven butt, so none of that is going to matter. Well, it's not really a "he" I guess, it's actually four ships that came to earth and then combined to become King Joe...Yeah, I don't get it either, but it's kind of fun that he was born the same year I was! And it's a cool and surprisingly pose-able build from umamen.

Batman!

Fans of the bat rejoice! This is a pretty subtle and brilliant mashup. Batman the Animated Series meets LEGO Batman! It's a simple, clean and perfect design, and now it's on a shirt from those fine folks at Tee Fury. But you've got to hurry, it's for today only, go!

Nightmare Designer

This is such a brilliant combination of parts I just had to share. Meet the Nightmare Designer, by vir-a-cocha. You wouldn't think so much character and style could be achieved with so few parts would you? This just goes to show you no matter how many times you look at the parts in front of you, there's something new to discover.

Eclipse

Rancorbait's awesome micro space fleet continues to grow with the addition of this stunning heavy assault cruiser. Like his Nova cruiser we blogged just last week, this one has a fantastic blend of broad strokes and greebly goodness. But this one looks ready to take on an armada by itself. I love that both vessels are unique yet share enough features like color scheme and shape combinations to make them look like they're from the same fleet, very well done.

I don't Like Sushi

Yes, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't like sushi. So now you're saying "you've just never had good sushi'. I'll just stop you right there. I've fallen for that three times, and on all three occasions the person that persuaded me to fall for it again confirmed that we were indeed eating good sushi. So it is confirmed, I don't like sushi. I do however dig a really cool LEGO interior, so check out this insanely detailed sushi restaurant by Denil. Now if someone would come up with a restaurant that has other food come out on those nifty conveyors I'd happily try it.

Let The Wookie Win

In my post SDCC afterglow (my mind is still swimming from that awesome EP7 behind the scenes reel) I find myself even more excited for the upcoming Star Wars film, which I didn't think was possible. And my Flickr feed seems to reflect the fact that everyone else is getting pretty jazzed about Star Wars these days. And this excellent little vignette by StarWarsKev124 from one of my favorite scenes from A New Hope, where we learn that Chewie likes to win...I mean he really likes to win.

Wetland Brick Trail

Fans of nature and bricks are in for a treat this summer in Gloucestershire UK. The WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre has gathered a small menagerie of excellent large scale LEGO models to discover along the trail. Designed and built by Bristol designer Tom Poulsom with the team at Bright Bricks, the models range from the cute and furry, to the feathered and spectacular. There will also be a LEGO play area where guests can build their own animals when they're done with the trail. For more info visit this link.

Optimus Prime

Mad Physicist is back with something pretty epic, a fully transforming Optimus Prime on a scale I don't think I've ever seen before. It's got all the detail and creative touches you'd expect from Ralph, and when he showed some WIP pics I really thought it was just going to be a huge truck model. Then I check my Flickr feed this morning and see it fully transforms...stunning.

Stuart

I haven't seen the Minions movie yet, but I hear it's funny. These little yellow dudes, like this one artfully recreated by bricks.life.idea, were by far my favorite part of Despicable Me. In fact, I've never been able to get through the whole movie in one sitting, but I always enjoy the moments these guys are on screen. I also like the concept of an entire army of dedicated workers, I could really use them at the studio these days (even if they'd struggle when it comes to dealing with the banana LEGO pieces).
