Gotta Catch 'Em All

I've been spending a lot more time on Twitch lately, not so much under the BrickNerd persona, but as our sister site (and my latest harebrained scheme) Nerds&Makers. But of course I still love the bricks, so I've spent quite a bit of time hanging out in the brick builder's channels, including BrickinNick. So I had the opportunity to actually watch this MOC come into being over the course of a few days. It's been interesting to watch other builders, makes me want to build more. Then I remember I have a whole new website and community to build (what have I done?)

Grand Army of the Republic's Gunship

Rogue Bantha is coming in for a landing with his new midiscale model of a Low Altitude Assault Transport (or gunship). What is there to say about this build? It's absolutely fantastic, nailing every single detail of these iconic Star Wars transports. The shaping? Ace. Texturing? Perfect. Having a fleet of this particular creation would be incredible to see. I guess we will have to wait to see the builder's next midiscale model!

Nathaniel Stoner

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever. 

     My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here.

I don't know what I love more, this excellent little rover diorama from builder Tigmon74, or the fact that his title and description is "Intergalactic, Planetary... Planetary, Intergalactic. ~Beastie Boys". I don't remember a rover being in that video, but I appreciate it replacing that damn song from Godspell stuck in my head this morning. Another dimension, another dimension...

Ryder's U-Wing

Master Star Wars vehicle builder Inthert took a U-Wing and broke it. ...Not really. Creating partially damaged iconic Star Wars ships and vehicles make them look like something new all together is something I really like to see often. This more rustic, cargo-carrying U-Wing design fits in this category perfectly, and is unique on its own with its exposed parts. Still recognizable as a U-Wing, but also looking like something new on its own, this ship is a fine addition to any modified Star Wars vehicles collection.

Looks like Doc Ock has a serious beef with the Daily Bugle's editorial board-Yikes!  My old pal Thorsten Bonsch has shifted gears from his Batcave series to the Marvel Universe.  There's lots to appreciate in this action packed scene; from the lettering in the floor to the curved city-scape mural on the back.  And even though things look dire for our web-slinging hero, I'm sure Spidey will ultimately save the day.  Just hopefully before the evening deadline...

We always love featuring crazy starfighter designs here on BrickNerd, and you the builders never seem to run out of ideas. SweStar revealed his latest design of a rather large starfighter, incorporating a nice color combination and enough greebles to make any spaceship builder happy. Elegance meets science-fiction designs with this inspiring model.

Dragon Yin and Dragon Yang

Anythony Wilson and Jayfa came together for an interesting collaborative build. The image of Yin and Yang is a symbol that many are familiar with today. These two builders brought their creature building skills together to form a piece that could easily be considered art. A depiction of Yin and Yang through the shape of two dragons. Beautiful!

The SFC - Titan

Andreas Lenander continues to build excellent sci-fi models, the latest being this very starfighter that immediately caught my attention. Just look at those wings, with the incredible angles and the colors that grab your eyes' focus. There's so much subtle detailing in this model, which allows the ship to be sleek and greebly at the same time -- a rare combo.

Builder Pol Mac is pretty freshly out of his dark ages, but seems to have come out with a vengeance, check out this gorgeous (first ever) dragon! It's designed to be flexible without big gaps in the body, and I'd say it was successful. My favorite detail has to be the eyes though, what a simple, elegant solution. The combination of lever base and mudguard has instant expression.

The Dream Of Flight

I know there's a video in the works for this, but I'm going to share it now anyway. Check out this beautiful creation by builder sadovich7.9! If that name sounds familiar to you it's because he's the designer of the LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle. Now he's back with a little mechanical wonder that I can't wait to see in motion, one of DaVinci's concepts for a human powered flight, the ornithopter. There's even a little orrery in the base, what a wonderful detail.

Land Rover Defender Rescue

I've always been fascinated by Land Rovers. Not because I'm particularly the outdoorsy type, or that I like luxury, it precisely the fact that I'm neither that makes it fascinating. Land Rover used to be pretty much pure utility, and all over the world they're in use in remote locations for their durability (or at least ease of repair in the bush). But steadily over time they've rebranded themselves as a luxury car. Now they're driven by people that will happily show off all the rugged features, but never ever use those features on the 405 freeway or on the way to yoga. This rescue Defender by builder Gilcélio is true to the roots and spirit of Land Rover, utility, practicality and ruggedness, serving and protecting and getting there in reasonable comfort.

B-59 Blacktron APC

Builder Norton74 is bringing back Blacktron in a big, black way. Check out this intimidating beast, the B-59. It's equipped with six wheels, machine gun, a rotating turret and loads of other features. It's based on the U-59 Explosive Truck from Joe 90, a British series that I need to go learn more about. Check out the awesome video below for more features of this marvelous build.

Madame Queen

I wish I knew more about trains and could speak with any authority about this black beauty from builder Engineering with ABS. All I can say is it looks powerful, dignified and gorgeous. And it's not just a pretty face, she's got some power thanks to a Power functions driven tender, as well as a L motor in the engine to help the coupling rods and valve gear rotate smoothly. Add in functioning lights and a flickering fire box, and you've got the whole package.

This one is pretty meta. What do you get when you combine mad building skills with one of the most notorious lines in LEGO's history? You get Jens, The Chief Scientist of the Royal Court of Galidor. Yes, Galidor, a name that will live in infamy, yet I can't take my eyes off this wonderful brick-built version of one of the characters by Ryan Howerter. If you had told me last night "tomorrow you'll blog a Galidor MOC" I would have just laughed, but look at this guy!

New Century City Block 2: Electric Bugaloo

Ok, that's not really the name of this MOC by Pate-keetongu, it's just where my sophomoric, forever 80's brain goes whenever I see a sequel with a "2". The funny part is, while this is a sequel, the original hasn't been posted, we'll just have to wait and see what that is. Anyway, this entire block is chock full of marvelous details, interesting architectural style and irresistible appeal. I want to visit this place.
