Read MoreAs I get older I find that it is the small things that kick off memories of my childhood and this gun-suit did just that. I can remember one specific summer in my youth watching back-to-back-to-back episodes of Gundam Wing with my cousin every morning for a week while on vacation. This suit may not be from Gundam Wing, but it sure would fit right in. One thing I really like about this build by Lu Sim is the "weight" of the various sections. In traditional anime style various parts are over-exaggerated in size and pointy at just the right.. erm... points... Also, +10 nerd points for being in BrickNerd colors!
Exo Suit designer Peter Reid has posted a fantastic side-by-side of his design vs the final product from LEGO and LEGO designer Mark Stafford. Clearly scale is a major deviation, as well as ankle joints and some of the larger body components like the barrels in the forearms. But as you can see it's faithful to the spirit, and fantastically designed. I prefer Pete's compactness and more mechanical look, but I sorta like LEGO's take on contrast. I prefer Pete's more exposed cockpit as well, but Mark's makes great use of the new handlebars. We'll have a LiveBuild and full review soon enough, in the mean time just stare at this and droooooool.

LEGO Ideas designer Peter Reid is teasing us, but I'm OK with it. Mainly because I know we're so very close to finally getting our hands on his mechanical bipedal beauty the Exo Suit. I had the honor of holding the original in my hands and I can't wait to play with it's brethren.
