Lighting LEGO with What You Have on Hand

Lighting for LEGO photography doesn’t have to be difficult. It can be as fun as the MOCs themselves by only using what you have on hand to achieve some brilliant effects. So here are few techniques that can inspire your own creativity.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

February 03, 2019/ Tommy

It’s a challenge dating back ages, an eternal struggle between the forces of flat, heavy and pointy, the decisive battle that can resolve any dispute, it’s ro-sham-bo, better known as rock, paper, scissors. Builder Adam Dodge has visualized this conflict in pretty much the best way ever.

Noteworthy Creation

November 04, 2018/ Tommy

I’m a sucker for a real-world creation, especially one as well executed as this one from builder legoloverman. The thin lines were achieved through the clever use of hinges, and the spiral binding with hoop blades. My favorite detail is more subtle though, and perfectly appropriate, that’s Eraser’s head on the end of the pencil there.

Take Note

August 16, 2015/ Tommy

It took me a second to find the seed part in this latest Iron Builder MOC from One More Brick. And then after I spotted them, it took me another second to figure out how he built with them in this way. Not to mention the fact that from a thumbnail, you'd pass right over this picture, thinking it was real. That all adds up to a pretty impressive MOC.
