Builder Legonardo Davidy is back (already?) with another spectacular build. It's got all the trademarks of one of his builds, marvelous curved structures, detailed and textured walls, whimsical touches and....what the heck? Is that thing standing on chicken legs?
The king of future weapons Nick Brick is back with some superior firepower, the BR-55 Battle Rifle from Halo 2 Anniversary. I've never donned armor and charged a battlefield, but if I did I'd want something this beefy and imposing as a weapon. The contouring, clever offsetting, smooth construction and attention to detail on this thing is stunning, you just wanna grab it and start going "pew pew"
There's been some debate as to why Nerdly wears glasses when he clearly has no eyes. But with this anatomical study by Nerdvember sponsor customBRICKS some light may have been shed on the subject. I don't know if it will influence the debate, but at least there seems to be proof of orbital anatomy.
I read Peanuts as a kid, and I enjoyed the animated shows like Great Pumpkin and Charlie Brown Christmas, but my favorite character was always Snoopy (and pigpen, that guy can dance). When he wasn't tearing up the skies as a WWI Flying Ace he was content to have a nap with his buddy Woodstock. This MOC by Bricksky captures them perfectly.
This is the kind of thing that happens when you bring together a small group of insanely talented builders and a spark of inspiration. This is a collaborative build from Brickthing, LegoJunkie, Legonardo Davidy and Si-MOCs based on the original Jigbot by BrickThing. I don't know which sea these pirates sail, but I'm sure it's a perilous and hilarious place to be.
I've heard lots of comments about MOCs for the Nerdvember contest in the works, but builder Pistash was the first to enter. This fiesta version of Nerdly cracked me up when I saw it, It must have been the combination of clown nose and party blower (who says clowns aren't funny?). Have you started your Nerdly yet?
You all know what a Star Wars geek I am. So when I was invited to contribute to the Comic Bricks art show at DesignerCon 2014 there wasn't a any question what comic I'd use. It was instantaneous and unwavering, Star Wars #1. This was my favorite comic as a kid, I literally wore it out thumbing through it continually until it finally fell apart. Now I have it again in brick form (that is unless someone buys it this weekend)
UPDATE: Somebody bought it, I have mixed feeling about it. Always great to get affirmation, and someone purchasing your art is high praise indeed, but I didn't get a chance to get sick of looking at it. I never even got a chance to show it to my wife in person, she only saw pics. The good news is if I really miss it, I can build another (just as soon as I restock 1x1 orange plate!)
If you're a castle fan, this is pretty much the best time of year. When CCC hits suddenly the floodgates open on castle MOCs of shapes and sizes. I for one get a kick out of the medium sized castles like this one from Dubbadgrim. Large enough to have impressive scale and diversity, small enough that you can see all the details. I especially like the different styles of the various sections of this luxurious manor.
When I was a kid my neighbor had the coolest Eagle toy, the cockpit and engine pod could be removed and connected to make a cool "mini Eagle" we called it. We also took great delight in attaching a parachute to the back and hurling it off the cliff in my back yard. Despite this wanton vandalism, we were fans of the craft and the show, so it gives me warm fuzzes to see it still. This version by V00D00M is fuzzyriffic.
Colossal Castle Contest XII is upon us, and castle builders all over the world are coming together to build and compete. And no collection of awesome castles would be complete without an entry from Mark of Falworth. This humble little abode is based on a previous castle, and the upgrades are apparent.
Most of the time I'm content to look at pictures of MOCs. Of course it's always a pleasure to see them in person. But occasionally I see one and I WANT IT! This Iron Man bust by ZetoVance is absolutely jaw-dropping. Thankfully he posted just enough of a breakdown I think I can cobble my own version together (as if I had time for that).
Orion Pax is back with one of my all time favorite movie cars, the '89 Batmobile. I consider myself lucky, when Batman came out back then I was super busy at work, so it was a couple weeks before I could see it. In that time all my friends were bashing on it so I went in with really low expectations. I loved it! And I loved this car, and I'm happy to say this version does it justice. Normally Bionicle MOCs don't do much for me, nothing against Bionicle, it's just not my thing. But when you add a good mix of System elements, a dose of clever building and a pinch of panache, you get something special. This is Sayomi by Thirdeye88. I'll let you click through for the full description of her, but I will give you this little nugget: "Brain Bug Boobs".
Fans of Megaman should know this fellow, Megaman's predecessor, Protoman. Build by retinence as commission, I'm sure the recipient of this awesome figure is going to be thrilled to have it on a shelf. The build quality is top notch, both the contouring and proportions are excellent, and the character is instantly recognizable.
On Halloween we all face our fears, even Batman. Of all the evil villains of Gotham, Scarecrow has to be one of the scariest. Let's face it, Penguin isn't scary, and Poison Ivy is just, well, you know. But Scarecrow...*shudder*. This version by vitreolum strikes all the right notes. And just check out his awesome Batman, it's a one-two character punch!

This is a genuine slice of my childhood. It just wasn't Halloween until we watched It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and now this blog feels like Halloween too. You don't get much simpler in design than this little scene by cmaddison, but it's positively perfect.
In a distant, bleak future, hard suits and mechs will do battle on war torn urban battlefields. But the guy that wears a suit and then wears another suit will pretty much own the place. I like to imagine the pilot dressed in a smart three piece by Armani. You know, a suit within a suit within a suit.
Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane...actually it is a plane. It's another stunning fantasy aircraft from Jon Hall. This one is particularly awesome since it's asymmetrical and totally reminds me of the B-Wing from Star Wars. Like all of his planes this one sports excellent design, amazing color work and custom decals, plus this one sports working flaps. And as always a pilot ready for action.
Just in time for Halloween and what I'm sure is plenty of binge viewing of the Saw franchise (what's wrong with you people?) comes this fabulous recreation of Billy, Jigsaw's puppet. Who would have thought the cheery spiral printed domes and 1x1 round tiles would have come to such handy use in a scary prop?
You know...Starlord? Oh c'mon, you've never heard of him? From builder Orion Pax comes this sweet reproduction of the mask from Guardians of the Galaxy. I don't know if it's actually wearable, but the scale is very close to 1:1. And as if that wasn't enough the eyes glow with the aid of some light bricks.
