Kryptonite Cyborg

/

An adversary of the legendary Superman, Metallo is a Kryptonite-powered cyborg.  This build is a menacing representation (almost Terminator-like) of the infamous character, designed by Shawn Snyder.  So many light gray elements are used to perfection in this build, creating sharp looking teeth and machine muscles!  Those complex arms and neck area are my favorite well-designed aspects of this character.  This character has made several on screen appearances, most recently on the CW's Supergirl.  Beware -- his heart is not very warm. . .at least in the way you'd like.

Nathaniel Stoner

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

Skull on Wheels

All the cool kids have skateboards...but not all of them have a skull skateboard.  Look at this wonderful LEGO skateboard (that almost doesn't look LEGO) by J.B.F!  The skull design is incorporated into the brick-built board seamlessly, and the curves on either end are executed to perfection.  Another design choice worthy of mention is the fact that the builder chose to have a one brick depth so that the skull insignia would show on the top and bottom.  Clever!  If the builder gave me permission, I would ride this down the street.  How about you?

LEGO tall ships are a rare sight, which makes their impressive designs even more inspiring.  Check out this pirating vessel by W. Navarre!  A very intriguing and unique design, especially the curvature of the hull, which is my favorite part (look at that angling in the rear).  So, grab your pirate crew and hop on board The Black Death!  The open stud sea lies ahead. . .

Rusty Ronin Robots

Try saying that three times fast.  Drone lovers beware, there's a dangerous group of rogue robots on the loose.  Hide your LEGO first, then your children.  These guys incorporate so many different elements that it takes a very keen eye to catch them all.  Something else that I personally appreciate is that they're not all the same model, or even the same size -- they come in all shapes and sizes!  While the very little one on the far left is cute, I find the one to its right even more adorable!  Most robots tend to not feel emotion, but this group seems like a well-oiled family.  Nice work on these, .Tromas!

Honk Honk. . .Mreow Mreow!

*Rubs hands together*  Let the cat puns begin. . .  With the recent release of the collectible Batman Movie figures, clawing their way up my list of my favorite comic minifigs, a little-known character was included in the bunch:  Catman.  This minifigure is not just another variant of a Batman suit - he's actually a individual character from the DC comics.  His character does have a history, but I don't think too many people are familiar with him.  Tim Lydy, the creator of this mobile, says it purrfectly:  "Catman should be taken seriously...that is unless you want to be all clawed up."  Jokes aside, check out this wonderful Catmobile to help Catman get away from dogs. . .

It's Just a Flesh Wound

Some people have skeletons in their closets, but if anyone had this I would easily be 3x as scared.  This horrific creature by ReeseEH was pulled from your nightmares for the 2017 Dragon Building Contest run by Nuju Metru.  The model speaks for itself, but it's amazing that a ligament-less creature can get around so well.  I think that minifig is in a heap of trouble.  *Shivers*

Bond with the Bondmobile

The Aston Martin DB 5 is a luxury car used by the infamous movie character James Bond.  The Incinerator14 designed a nice replica of the iconic British vehicle.  Accurate cars are not as easy to build as some make it seem, especially executing some significant curves like on the front of this model.  Obviously, Bond had some special modifications to his vehicle, but as far as I am aware this LEGO version appears to only be a standard Ashton Martin.  Either way, any minifig driving this sporty car will be cruising in style. . .

Fancy hot rod and automobile creator Calin took a little bit different route. . .Or he recently got stuck behind a school bus stop and decided to shift gears.  If any of your microfigures need a transport for their education, contact this bus service!  This classic yellow, cute little bus is adorable!  Some interesting elements and building techniques were used to give this transport some style.  Drive on, little bus!  *Beep beep*

Well, I've Seen Stranger. . .

Your friendly neighborhood LEGO builder Vitreolum, a reputable character builder, recently created something rather strange. . .Steven Strange.  "It's Doctor, actually."  Right, sorry -- Doctor Steven Strange.  Please don't zap me to another dimension.  The latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Doctor Strange film was a very intriguing film that added some of the craziness the movies needed.  This model here depicts the iconic character's classic look in contrast to Benedict Cumberbatch's updated movie version.  The builder utilizes an interesting detailed piece to act as the Eye of Agamotto, Mr. Strange's (I meant doctor) iconic necklace that may or may not contain an Infinity Stone.  Does this inspire you to try building him yourself?  Stranger Things have happened!

The Vault

Who knew collecting a simple data tape would involve climbing?  Well, it is the tape containing the plans to the Death Star, after all.  It appears that builder Vaionaut has been thinking of stealing some data tapes himself.  This vignette features some very nice techniques, especially in the detailing of the data tower.  (It's always intriguing to see LEGO rubber bands and flexible tubing used in a creation.)  Our heroes Jyn and Cassian are attempting to escape through a hatch near the top, but Director Krennic has something to say about that!  A wonderful representation, Vaionaut!

Imperials at the Lars Homestead

This Star Wars diorama by KW_Vauban features a wonderful Sentinel-class Imperial landing shuttle, which made its first on-screen appearance in Star Wars Rebels.  Cousin to the standard Lambda-class T-4 shuttle (the one seen in the Original Trilogy), the Sentinel shuttle is modified to act primarily as a troop transporter, hence the extra body space and different placement of the wings, seen accurately on this LEGO model.  To further complement this amazing LEGO shuttle, the builder decided to depict the Imperial forces arriving at the Lars' home, in search of our two favorite droids.  These may not be the droids you are looking for, but this is indeed the shuttle you're looking for.

Dispatching The Slug

Like the rest of the world, I was shocked and saddened by the loss of Carrie Fisher, but seeing all the outpouring of love in the form of MOCs has made it easier. She was my first movie star crush when I was 9, but my 15 year old brain nearly short circuited when Jedi came out and she showed up in this little number. Builder and international sock model Iain Heath has crafted a fitting tribute to everyone's favorite kickass princess, and least favorite slug crimelord.

Railway Snow Plow

Love it or hate it snow sure does get in the way of life. We Northerns have all this fancy equipment for removing snow from all sorts of places, including railroads. For those living in the southern regions of this planet you might think it silly to have a train dedicated to snow removal. But, snow is a fickle thing and it is better to be over prepared for those few days of year when you get multiple feet of the "cold white stuff". Builder Maciej Drwięga seems to think the people of LEGOland are in need of snow removal as well, and as such has presented us with a cool (haha, snow pun!) PKP 411S-121 snow plow.

Surf & Turf

This fun little interior by builder nexcidia looks like a good time. Ambiance is incredibly important in an eating establishment. And while there's a recent trend away from "wall clutter", I always appreciate a good themed room. Besides, I'm way past due for a good steak and lobster dinner (but presently sick so I won't be doing that for a while). Speaking of lobster, I don't see any. Then again, I don't see Batman either, coincidence?

It's a Trap!

Our old pal Eero Okkonen has come up with an impressive bust of the Mon Calamari Admiral we all know and love.   Everything with this creation is spot on, and he looks like he's about to bark an order to the Rebel Fleet.  The Admiral has appeared in several Star Wars movies, but is probably most famous when his keen strategic instincts kicked in during the Battle of Endor.  When those shields didn't drop, he realized the Empire was up to... something fishy...  Sorry, just had to.

I'm a maker at heart. I don't just build with bricks, I'm just as comfortable with an X-Acto in my hand as I am with a brick separator and I've been building something out of nothing as long as I can remember. So naturally I'm a fan of Tested.com, where the overlap of that venn diagram is squarely in my wheelhouse. They love LEGO too, and this week they're kicking off another "LEGO with friends" with creative powerhouse and all around swell guy Angus MacLane. He shows off his work in progress Blade Runner gun with Adam and Simone. I should point out this is premium content, you have to be a subscriber to see it, but in my opinion it's money well spent to virtually hang with like-minded individuals and see some amazing stuff get made and reviewed. 

Skirmish At Nassau

Sometimes things don't go the way you'd like on a series you're watching. A favorite character dies, the heroine falls for "that guy", or for some reason a polar bear shows up. Most people just grumble about it, and tune in next week, but if you're builder Mpyromaxos you build a huge MOC that reimagines how things should have gone. This is his interpretation of the events at Nassau in the series (spoilers?). I especially like the Spongebob and Patrick cameo.

Here's a fun fact: I worked on the last season of Black Sails. I could tell you who dies, if I only watched the series and knew anyone's name. All I know is I spent day after day killing pirates, lots of them.

T-Rex

I don't know what's more frightening, a distant past where tyrannosaurus rex roamed the world, or a distant future where robo-tyrannosaurus rex, like this totally sweet MOC from ToyForce 120, roam the world. At least in the future we can all looks on with sincere admiration and awe as this thing bears down on us. Truly impressed with it's stunning mechanical design and intimidating aesthetics, I mean before it chomps down on you of course.

With the recent announcement of LEGO's very own BrickHeadz line, fans will be excited to collect a different kind of figure.  Builder J.B.F. has gotten in on the action, creating his own style of collectible brick-built figures!  His starring line-up contains some great characters, including: Iron Man, Batman, the Flash, Superman, Captain America, and Hulk himself!  (I hope more will join the collection soon!)  Each character is made with the builder's new and creative building style, displayed on a base unique to that figure.  I would love to buy some of these in stores!

The Happiest Place On Earth

You all know what a Disneyland fan I am and whenever LEGO meets the happiest place on earth you instantly have my attention. To this day when I pick up a classic LEGO wavy flag I don't think castle, I think Disneyland. So this recreation of the classic Disneyland sign along with all these other fantastic MOCs by builder TJJohn12 makes my geek heart go pitter patter. Look for this and many other Disney inspired MOCs in the latest issue of BrickJournal, including some instructions by me!
