Shackled

I'm not certain why I'm so drawn to this MOC by Legohaulic. Perhaps I can relate to being shackled by LEGO (the toy, not the company) since blogging every single day by yourself can be a daunting task sometimes. Or maybe it's being shackled to the film industry, since it's turned all my friends gypsies and my wife a single parent. Or maybe it's just because I have bones, I dunno.

Welcome, To Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park represents a life pivot for me. When it came out I was still making rubber monsters, but the digital dinos in this film convinced me that CGI had finally come into it's own, and I switched to digital fx. This MOC by Siercon and Coral is as stirring and impressive as the scene in the movie. Admit it, you hear John William's score in your head right now don't you?

F-06 Skyrazor

Builder Sylon-tw takes to the skies with with his latest build, the F-06 Skyrazor. I love the wings on this bird, both the color scheme and it's graphical appeal and the inverted gull-wing design. That plus the bulged cockpit gives this plane a squat but menacing appearance.

Gloom

For the past month builder Dave Kaleta has been offering daily builds from Atlas Games' popular card game Gloom. No longer are they just pictures on cards, Dave has expertly crafted the entire eccentric family of misfits and misanthropes. I'd say they make me happy, but that's not the point of the game, so I'll just say "ho hum" and smile on the inside.

Teslatown

Builder 2 Much Caffeine imagines a city powered by steam, buzzing with electricity and fueled by fun. This was a build for Brick2014 in the UK, and features motorized functions and a multitude of lighting effects, including a lava lamp! I don't know that I'd want to live in this town, but you can bet I would visit.

HOUND

Given our collective fascination with bipedal robotic machines it seems inevitable that one day we will have them. And I seriously hope we have designers with the aesthetics of builder Moko on the job. In the mean time we call all sit back and stare in wonder at his latest build, and drool.

Red Five Standing By...

Did you guys know I was a Star Wars fan? I might have mentioned it before, dunno. Over my lifetime obsessed with this movie I've built quite a few X-Wings, out of a variety of materials, but nothing rivaling the scale and badassness of this beast by crash_cramer. The proportions, color and attention to detail in this thing is staggering. It's over 30 inches long and probably weighs a proverbial ton, but dammit I want to swoosh it!

Neophyter F6 Type

The king of the greeb is back. Pete "Legoloverman" Reid needs no introduction. Between his excellent Space book and his phenomenal LEGO Ideas Exo-Suit, he's practically a household name. This fighter is a bit of a departure from the color scheme of neo classic space, but it's a welcome change. And just look at the greebly goodness on the belly, lovely.

How Is This Possible?

Some of my favorite builders are presently competing in Iron Builder, and as usual its fierce competition, but I'm beginning to doubt Siercon and Coral are mortal. I swear those two are not only altering space and time, but are summoning an army of spirit builders or something. Can you believe all this came from only two builders in just two weeks?

Got A Light?

I'm a sucker for realism, and even at full size you really have to look and see that these are actually expertly crafted LEGO prop matches by AFOL turned LEGO designer Carlmerriam. I love how Carl isn't afraid to let scale get in the way when it comes to props, and it makes his MOCs even more magical.

It Uses Tape?

You kids today, with your fancy iPods and digital recorders. Back in my day we used tape! You wanted to record something you hauled around one of these devices, loaded with D batteries and with a load of cassette tapes. And when you wanted to hear what you just recorded, you had to rewind first! Now stop recording me and get off my lawn!

Walker Mech Y-3.2

Builder nobu_tary is back with another wonderfully eccentric mechanical walker. I love the level of detail on these things. It's not just stuff for stuff's sake, everything seems to be there either with purpose or to tell the back story of it's rider. It's a rich visual and story-telling experience.

UCS Landspeeder

When we walked out of the theater as kids after seeing Star Wars, every one of us had a new wish list. Some wanted a lightsaber, some wanted Stormtooper armor, we all wanted Princess Leia as a girlfriend. This was on my new list, Luke's Landspeeder. This version by fresh-out-of-his-dark-ages Aaron Fiskum is a beauty, measuring in at over 22 inches long, it has proper UCS scale and detail. And it can be a reality with your support.

Bad Hair Day

I can totally relate to whoever this is, be he a distressed maitre d', shocked conductor or mortified funeral home director. I don't know about builder black.zack00, but bad hair is pretty much a daily condition for me. At least I never have to wear a tuxedo.

Stardust

I so love it when I'm scrolling though my Flickr feed and with no conscience decision find myself going "oooooooooh". When this happens you can bet it's a unique or particularly stunning MOC, and this craft by The /\rchitect is both of those, and more. It's simultaneously gorgeous and baffling, as your eyes and brain try to make sense of it. It's like the illegitimate love-child of the Slave One and H.G. Wells, and it's spectacular.

The Life Tree

Builder Fraslund continues to amaze with his tribute MOCs to the novel To Whatever End. This one is the Tree of Life, and it's stunning. According to the novel it's carved in stone but appears to sway and move, and those standing near it feel a gentle current of peace and healing. I think we need one of these in every city, and at least a dozen in Los Angeles.

Construction

Yes, this isn't exactly realistic, and I think it's too bad. Watching a building go up while all the disciplines required worked simultaneously would be really cool! This is almost like a moment in construction and a cross section put together. Although I have to ask, where's the foreman? There should be a guy walking around with a foam cup looking important.

RED

A lot has been written recently about the dangers of artificial intelligence and robot autonomy. You know what the biggest danger of having awesome beasts like this fire fighting MOC by Onosendai2600? Dorks like me continually pulling the fire alarm just so we can see it show up.

G2 Repair Droid (Goose Droid)

You all know what a Star Wars and Disney geek I am, so where those two met always had my attention (and now they're one and the same, I'm doomed). When Star Tours opened in 1986 I was blown away. The ride was fun, even if it always made me a little queasy, but what I always enjoyed was the queue, especially these little guys. What you may not know is the basic structure of the Goose Droid is actually a repurposed animatronic frame of a goose from America Sings, hence it's nickname. Joe Meno has crafted three of these little guys, the largest being animated with LEGO Mindstorms robotics. Cue Star Tours public announcement tone.

Oni

So I'm scrolling through Flickr this morning like I do every day, and I see this phenomenal MOC by Deathly Halliwell. It's on par with pretty much everything from this very talented builder. Then I read the description and find out this was built in ONE DAY, nine hours in fact! I'm gobsmacked.
