One of my favorite modular buildings is now one of my favorite mini modulars thanks to builder DDoshini. I've always been captivated with the minis because of the ingenuity required to scale down such a complex structure and maintain the look and feel of it, but as you can see it's been accomplished. It looks right at home between the Pet Shop and the Parisian Restaurant, which I might add are also really well done.
As you all know I'm going to be at BrickMagic 2015 in Charlotte North Carolina next month and I thought we'd have some fun with my favorite bespectacled mascot. So let's have a little contest shall we? I'd like to challenge you to take Nerdly to the next level. What's that mean? That means adding lights, or motion, or insane transforming capability, or building style, or anything you want as long as it's totally wild. Post your pictures to the official Flickr group and if you're coming to BrickMagic put them on display. You can start with official instructions, or go freestyle, it's up to you. There will be prize packages for three winners including an exclusive plush Nerdly! This super squishy and adorable Nerdly is one of only three in the world, hand crafted by Flat Bonnie! So break out the bricks, fire up your imagination and get building, I'll see you at Brick Magic!
Jason at JK Brickworks has posted this excellent little video of some walking MOCs based on classic wooden toys. They're a lot of fun and I can see all kinds of potential for some really cool variations on this style. He also posted some instructions so you can build your own so what are you waiting for?
About Me:
I'm a self made gazillionaire, mostly from well-timed robberies and murder (but I promise I won't murder you) and a successful entrepreneur. I had a lucrative Kickstarter campaign last year to fund my own brand of daggers called "BakStabr" which are selling like crazy, mostly to crazies. I like long walks on the beach and the smell of baking bread. I also like killing (but I promise I won't kill you) and the feel of leather against my skin.
Status: Single
Age: 148
I'm a: Man
I'm Interested in: Women (and killing, but not you)
Country: Krantuu District, Ceta 9
Ethnicity: Shi'i
Height: 7"2"
Smoking: No
Drinking: Only the blood of my enemies
Killing: Absolutely, but not you
For the uninitiated NPU stands for "nice part use", it's an abbreviation reserved for those MOCs with part use so clever it borders on mind-blowing. Those parts tend to be those ones that are languishing in a bin, ignored and unused because they're simply too special and one-use. This mini sea battle by builder the_jetboy is a perfect example of NPU. Those boat hulls are Chima Speedorz. That's not the only excellent feature of this MOC though, it's awesome everywhere you look, click through for more pics.
Are you tired of zombies and/or wasteland raider ruining your camping trips? Then come on down to Stanley's PostApoc Rentals! At Stanley's we stock nothing to totally custom RVs and transports designed not only for a fabulous recreational experience, but for ultimate survival. We're not just taking about heavy armor and "pokey jabby" things, we're talking about state of the art defense, with a touch of luxury, like the Princess here designed by LEGO Will. So before your next trip out to the barren plains, come on down to Stanley's!
Why is it that space transports are just so cool? Seriously, think of all the iconic spaceships from pop-culture over the years, the Millennium Falcon, Serenity USCSS Nostromo, Hunter-Gratzner, etc.. Heck, even NASA's Space Shuttle was basically a fancy space-faring U-Haul truck. This Space Police Goliath by Tim Goddard is also one real spiffy transport with its retro cool colors harkening back to the original Space Police series. Now all we need is an attacking Blacktron ship attempting to free the transport's criminal cargo and we would be all set.
Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better, better means better. Excellent building is impressive on any scale, but when you combine excellent building on this type of scale you have something special. Just look at the scale and majesty of this MOC by migalert! Standing before this must give you an inkling of what it must have been like for Thorin and his party to return to the Lonely Mountain.
I'm a kid of the 80's. I wore parachute pants, listened to Duran Duran, watched MTV when they had music and kept my eyes on the skies for ICBMs. The proportions and color selection of this sexy bot by DViddy were the first thing that caught my eye. But it's the inclusion of a classic Sony Sport Walkman (which I also had) that put this over the top for me.
One of the most renowned endurance racers of the 1960's, the Ferrari 330 P4 dominated at Monza, Daytona, and LeMans. The source material has some decidedly sexy and difficult curves to replicate, and through some sort of deal with the devil or otherworldy black magic, Bob Alexander has captured them perfectly. In addition to bending the brick to his will, Bob has also managed to stuff in a gloriously detailed engine - an ABS glimpse into a 450HP V12 that most people will never get the chance to see in real life.
Premium condos available at Ridge, downtown Vancouver. Modern amenities, open concept, fully furnished. Balconies, spectacular ocean views, only three blocks from Rogers Arena. Designed by renowned architect Paul Brickbaron. Retail on street level, including Starbucks. Starting at 2.5M (start saving your pennies).
This is something that's been on my ever-growing-and-completely-unachievable "to do" list since I finished building the real thing a couple years ago. I guess I can scratch it off now because this version by sillysparkle is awesome. The Mini Modulars is one of my favorite sets, and this makes a perfect addition to it, nice work!
I was just thinking about stormtroopers while I was making my tea, then I go to my Flickr feed and see this awesome MOC by umamen. This is fantastic! I love that it is posable, and has different configurations, like a Han Solo head. But the stand out feature to me is that helmet, wow!
It's the perfect invention! You know, so you can open your Easter eggs, eat some chocolates and celebrate spring with your buddies! It's a whole lot of Easter fun from builder Powerpig. Happy Easter everyone!
I'm not sure if she's about to lead an Easter Egg hunt, or an attack on a Rebel outpost. Either way, gotta love this nerdly mix of Star Wars and the festive Spring holiday by InkBlotPhoto! The depth of field, in addition to the pop of hot pink, makes for a great example of macro photography. And you have to imagine the WTF expression under the helmet of that middle Stormtrooper. So Happy Easter, to you here on Earth, and in galaxies far far away!
If you've spent much time paying Mario or Yoshi games you've had to content with these little trouble makers. It's a Shy Guy, perfectly done by builder Swan Dutchman. Wouldn't it be funny if under the mask they all looked like Shigeru Miyamoto? Ok, not that funny, but an easter egg like that would be pretty epic.
The battle about to take place here looks a little one sided, the ship on the right is a full two studs longer than the one on the left. Micro scale seafaring battle has never looked better than this tiny but awesome MOC by builder gid617. I especially like the ship on the right, with the use of minifig hands for flags and the varying angles on the sails. It might not be strictly "legal" building, but when it looks this cool I don't care.
AFOLs and others who walked into their local LEGO Store on April 1 were treated to a neat surprise on the Pick-A-Brick wall: new elements previously not available through PAB, including 1x1 round decorated "eye" tiles, 1x2 yellow "cheese" slopes, and much more. But don't grab a large cup and start to fill it just yet.
It's all part of the new "Pick-A-Model" line, in which you can create two models -- a plane or a couple of giraffes -- in the vein of their successful Build Your Own Minifigure offering.
"Eye" see what you did there, LEGO.
One caveat for those tempted to stock up on these elements: they are really geared toward the Pick-A-Model sets, so you won't be able to fill your PAB cups to the brim with them: I'm told that LEGO Brand Retail employees will dutifully uphold this policy. Pick-A-Model sets will also change on a quarterly basis, which could mean more different elements coming to the PAB walls. That's always good news!
1x2 modified plates in light orange -- let's just call them duck's beaks.
Each Pick-A-Model set will cost you $4.99, which seems a bit steep (the plane, for example, only has 24 pieces) and comes with a handy case which happens to hold exactly the number of pieces you need to build the set. But the availability of the new elements alone might make these worth it.
Matt rowntRee is up to his old tricks, this time with Marvin, the condescending Martian bent on Earth's destruction. Always good for a laugh! Check out Matt's MocPages post for close up pics of the crafty construction techniques. Clickets!?! Interesting, very interesting indeed!
I mean why not? It makes as much sense as a bunny that delivers chocolate eggs right? (no offense Easter Bunny, I'd still like a basket with some LEGO and maybe some Whoppers) This Pikachu from builder zkdlalsxm brings back a lot of memories of my son attempting to "catch 'em all", and he's posable, most impressive.
