Hyrule Castle

Here at BrickNerd, we like to sometimes to do a blast from the past feature. . .

Back in 2015, Legends of Zelda video game fan Joseph Z. unveiled his massive model of Hyrule Castle, a recognized location from Twilight Princess. A labor of love for roughly 2 years, this creation features some beautiful octagonal roof and tower designs (which feature the use of many "click hinges"), interesting stone texture using many 2x2 tiles in light bluish gray, and a lot of attention to detail. Not only does the model look fantastic from a distance, but as you get closer you even notice that there is a complete courtyard with different scenes going on to help bring the model to life. Check out all the angles of this creation and more Zelda builds by Joseph here!

Edoras, the Golden Hall of Meduseld

The Third Age Collaboration has been making its way around Flickr, bringing many talented online builders together with a common love of bricks and Tolkien. This incredible recreation of Edoras by norlego completely blew me away. This model is just beautiful in its enormous size, with so much excellent detailing. No detail was skipped, and no shortcuts were made in this design. Make sure to check out the other models featured in this online collaboration!

"Lock S-Foils In Attack Position"

Builder Jerac confirms something I've been saying for years, that the X-Wing is not a simple ship. Despite the twenty or so iteration from LEGO itself, they're still struggling to get this ship right. It has compound curves, gentle slopes, thin wings and other aspects that make it a challenge to build. Despite these hurdles, Jerac has succeeded to a level, especially at this scale, that I haven't seen before. Now cut the chatter Red 2, accelerate to attack speed...

Victorian Street

Fancy a stroll? The Victorian times must have been exceptionally interesting time to be alive. New inventions constantly, fascinating fashion, and style everywhere you look. Of course there was also class warfare (and just plain warfare for that matter) and cholera so it wasn't exactly utopia. But there certainly were some awesome buildings built weren't there? Like those depicted in this excellent street scene by looooookl.

"Paper" Cut Chicken

This is one of those MOCs you might just scroll past if you weren't paying very close attention. what really sells it is the "scraps" and the scissors (which are also brick built). A very clever intersection of crafts and poultry from builder EugeneTTs.

Bricksburg: 2046

If a hotel is in crumbling, grimy ruins, does it have no vacancies or is every room a vacancy? I don't know, but it's not everyday I get to use "grimy" as a compliment, and Legofin's Cyberpunk slum is gorgeously grimy.

A Wizard Should Know Better

I can't help but feel a little sorry for Saruman. He was so duped by Sauron he built an army, only to have a bunch of slow-moving talking trees show up and kick his butt. But in the end he deserved everything, and should have known better. Builder cypiratemocs recreates a small part of a pivotal moment in the battle for Middle Earth, the last march of the Ents. Lead by Treebeard, and influenced slightly my Merry and Pippin, the Ents marched on Isengard, and uncorked a great big bottle of whoopass.

Awesome Scale Tires For Technic

The fine folks at Pro-Line Racing are not only passionate about RC racing, they're also big into LEGO. So imagine their delight and surprise to discover that the off road tires they developed for RC also happen to fit on LEGO technic vehicles. Not only do they fit, they look amazing! Check out the video below for more details and visit them at www.prolineracing.com and for a limited time use the code PROLINEBRICK10 to save 10%.

CrocRod

Hotrods are all about attitude. Crocodiles are pretty much all about attitude too. So when those two intersect the results essentially own the road. Meet CrocRod The Black Caiman by builder ianying616. A black on black beast of a rod with loads of horsepower, chrome and fury. Now kindly get off the road or get eaten, you have been warned.

Ibrahim

While the description of this strange character by builder Prhymus says this is a "wandering shepherd in need of a new flock", I'm not certain what kind of flock we're talking about here. The unconventional proportions and build style make this a very compelling character. It's hard to imagine this entity patiently watching over some sheep.

Stranger Teens

The Stranger Things cast is a good mix of young and less young, and they all have their own way of dealing with the exceptionally odd circumstances that befall the small town of Hawkins. Builder  Casey M explores the Miniland Plus format with this collection of the teens of the show, including cult favorite Barbara Holland. Oh Barb, how we love you.

Pre-Wine

I almost scrolled right past this awesome little MOC by builder jigsawjo. Yes, it's a LEGO creation, look closer. Those are technic ball joints for the grapes, attached to plant leaves. And the leaf is a cleverly employed green cape. I love creations like this, even if they do make me do a comic double take and almost spill my tea.

The Automotive Makerspace: The Garage

As I've said in the past, we're all makers. And a very large percentage of houses around the world have had a makerspace built in for centuries, the garage. This interior by builder Pixeljunkie looks more like a professional garage though, and it's wonderful. You can practically smell the oil and welding fumes, hear the pinging of metal on metal. The lighting and mood is captured perfectly in this shot, nicely done sir, nicely done.

Not The Real Thing But An Incredible Simulation!

Builder SuckMyBrick has gathered a veritable who's who of YouTubers including Rhett and Link from Good Mythical Morning, Tyler from Dude Perfect, Casey Neistat, Logan Paul, Miranda, TechnoViking and...wait...what? That dork on the end is me? I don't see how I belong in this club at all, but I'll take it! I will point out that guy is far more attractive than me.

Defend the Home Tree

This delightful microscale castle makes me think of what the Ewoks would be like if they had progressed to a medieval period in development.  The microscale castle and surrounding landscape is well executed, and the sails on the boat using the newish 29119 is an excellent part choice.  The towering tree filled with tree houses adds a uniqueness to the scene that really drew me in wanting to know so much more about the story in John Klapheke's head for the people in this tree. Are they elves? Lilliputians who moved to the trees and need the walls to defend from squirrels?  One thing is sure the archers in the tree are going to have quite some range defending this castle.

A 4-6-0 Haul Class Heading North

I have a confession to make: I still haven't read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Sure, I've read the rest, but somehow missed the inaugural tome in Rowling's master work. Chalk it up to arriving late to that party (Please don't fire me, Tommy. I'll read it, I promise). This masterful micro rendition of the Hogwarts Express, by david zambito, captures the beautiful example of British locomotive history, as it rumbles it's passengers to another year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft And Wizardry.  The texture achieved through the use of dark and light bluish-grey in the elevated railway wonderfully contrasts with the lush vegetation in the fields below.  One could almost see a chocolate frog making it's leap to freedom.

A Tranquil Place

I have to share builder Cesbrick's sentiment on this lovely little location, I just want to be here. I'm not into fishing, or boating really for that matter, but this place draws me in. I want to see inside, I want to hear the birds chirping, I want to smell the fire burning, it just looks so appealing. Maybe perhaps if I can't live here I can just park my Airstream across the lake from it so I can admire it from a distance, if only for a little while.

Moody Groot

As the father of a teenager and a Marvel fan I can say without hesitation that the world needs this. Builder Ochre Jelly has tasked himself with a photo series, with a new photo every day. The subject? Well it's teenage heartthrob Groot, being a heartthrob and a teen, and totally disinterested in anything you care about (yeah, whatever dad, I am Groot). Iain hasn't said how long the series will last, but I'll be watching until it's over.

Plowing

Mechanical guru Josh DaVid is back with another wonderful kinetic sculpture. This time it's something of a more domestic and ancient task, plowing. For as long as humans have been planting crops we've been enlisting beasts of burden to assist us, and this creation celebrates that collaboration. Check out the video to see it in motion.

Habitat At The End Of The World

I haven't fully wrapped my head around this colossal creation by builder Aliencat, nor have ever understood the fascination with Fabuland. But I do appreciate some fine building, and this is some damn fine building. Everywhere on this craft (lander? Ship? What do I call it?) there's loads of detail and implied functionality. From the accordion ramp to the drop down egress you can tell there's some thought going into how this thing works. Click through for many more pictures.
