Muppet Show Veterinarian's Lab

I love the Muppets, in fact, I was just thinking a few minutes ago about watching The Muppet Movie today. So imagine my surprise and delight when this awesome MOC by grubaluk appeared in my Flickr feed. Not only does it have two of my favorite Muppets, Beaker and Sweetums (no really, look out the window) it’s got some amazing character work and additional motorized features that I’m dying to see, but video features are not available on Flickr right now (grrr).

Why So Serious?

Seeing this excellent set of Batman busts by Build Better Bricks reminds me that it’s been far too long since I’ve seen The Dark Knight. It’s been argued that Heath Ledger portrayed the best Joker ever to explode on the big screen, and not just because he blew everything up. And while Christian Bale makes me giggle every time he does his scary Batman voice, he did a pretty good job with the role. I think it’s time to break out the blu-ray.

HAVOC-DISSECT IV

I don’t know who this lovely young lass from Eero Okkonen is, I know I could learn more on his website but time is short this morning. I can assure you this, she would mop the floor with me, I mean absolutely and totally demolish me. While I was going “oh” and “ah” at her nifty axe she would simply dispatch me and move on, you have to respect that.

RexZilla

I can totally relate to RexZilla by Si-MOCs here. There are days you really wish you could just stomp through a few buildings right? Well, I’d make sure they were abandoned first, I don’t want anyone hurt. And of course you need to make sure the owner would be cool with it, like they have good insurance or it was planned for demolition anyway. And of course you need to make sure there’s no noise or other prohibitive ordinances, just to be on the up and up. Actually, maybe I’m not cut out to be a large mechanical monster…

Garden Dragon

Ah, we found it! The beautiful garden dragon. These incredibly rare and mostly nocturnal creatures are not indigenous to the area, but have thrived in secrecy since their introduction by a mysterious cult in the late 1960’s. While they’re not aggressive they do have sharp teeth and a hallucinogenic venom which gave them the nickname “spook dragons” from the vivid and scary visions associated with their bite. I’m not going to make eye contact, but just back away slowly…

Dark Lord

I love everything about this latest figure by builder paddybricksplitter. The construction, the colors, the pose, the lighting, the photography, it’s all just amazing. While I wouldn’t want to run into this guy while in the depths of a dungeon while hunting for treasure, I’m certainly happy to admire this shot of him. Now, roll for initiative…

Mac Tonight

Recognize this guy? It’s Mac, McDonald’s mascot from the 80’s and the breakout role of everyone’s favorite unknown actor, Doug Jones. Doug and I have had multiple intersections in our careers, having both worked on many projects including Hocus Pocus, Good vs Evil and Pan’s Labyrinth. These days you can see him as Saru on Star Trek Discovery, he’s a terrific actor and a genuinely awesome guy. Builder bruceywan must have been craving cheeseburgers this week, and totally nailed this build.

Little Helper

Having never watched DuckTales (sorry, came along a little late for me) or read a Donald Duck comic I had no idea who this character by builder lummerlander was, but I was intrigued. One google search later and now I know, and he’s pretty cool. I could use this little guy in the workshop of Nerds&Makers, where I get into my non-LEGO mischief.

Nian

It might be just a little early for Chinese New Year, but this monster Nian was built for a contest so we get to celebrate just a bit early. According to myth the Nian lives under the sea or mountain, and comes out every new year to feast, mostly on crops but sometimes children, fun stuff. I have it under good authority that this particular Nian was hiding in the LEGO bins of builder Legopard.

Broly

Bro, do you even lift? For an effective work out, try the patented “Broly System”, you’ll be jacked in no time. It starts with a brief but effective exile to planet Vampa, followed by a high protein, low carb diet. Daily workouts include sparring with Vegeta and Goku, as well as numerous crunches. I have absolutely no idea what the heck I’m talking about, but check out this totally buff figure by builder 莫古.

Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me...

Builder Dave Kaleta knows how to show some appreciation. He attended a taping of National Public Radio’s news quiz show Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me and presented these awesome creations to the hosts and panelists. It’s just too bad it was done after the taping, I’d love to see, or at least hear, their reactions to getting them.

Incineroar

Since Pokemon hasn’t been a feature of daily life in this house for many years it doesn’t take much to surprise me (I’m also blissfully ignorant of the world in general, so that’s not really saying much) So when a Pokemon that I’m not familiar with pops up, I just roll with it. I don’t know anything about Incineroar, wonderfully depicted here by builder reticence, but he looks like he can put up a good fight, and that’s all we ask of our incarcerated pocket monsters isn’t it?

It's A Miss, It's Totally A Miss

And once again Ochre Jelly is all over a meme before I’ve even heard of it (and truly, I could have lived without it). I don’t know the origin of this, what it’s based on, who this lass is or anything. And I feel a headache would follow any attempt at research so I’ll just post this and remain willfully ignorant of this one Iain.

Veronica Winter

Builder vitreolum gave no indication of who this is in the description, so it’s up to me. Meet Veronica Winter, Santa’s personal assistant and aspiring pin up girl. While Santa isn’t terribly supportive if her aspirations, she is the best assistant he’s ever had. Before she came along mail was occasionally lost, milk and cookies might not be readily available and “the list” was never quite up to date. But as much as Veronica loves her job all she really wants is to be pictured on the nose art of the sleigh, something I never new was needed, but I have to agree that would be pretty awesome. Her attempts to prove her worthiness tend to just embarrass Santa, who has given her more coveralls than anyone needs. And Mrs Claus is at her wits end to say the least. When things calm down after Tuesday she’s gonna “have a little talk” with Veronica.

Doc Ock

Fun fact: I worked on Spiderman 2. Not so fun fact: I spent most of the time working on a single shot that was when this guy showed up and some metal panels got pulled off the wall, blink and you missed it. Doctor Octopus, depicted here by vitreolum, is one of those villains that everyone knows, but no one really “knows”, you know? He’s actually a pretty complex character, who just happens to be a mad scientist with mechanical appendages hell bent on proving his genius while smashing Spiderman.

The Stranglers

I’m afraid that latest band featured by builder redfern1950s2 didn’t get much airplay here in the US, and back then before global connectivity if they didn’t play you on the radio, you didn’t exist. The only song from The Stranglers I’m aware of is No More Heroes, but being a kid of the 70’s and 80’s I’m guessing they’ll have some more offering that will be in my wheelhouse. Time to do some catching up.
