Wanna Build a Snowman, Bats?!

A bit more ominous winter creations...but an interesting (and perhaps even funny) one at that. Here we see Joker himself have a bit of playful fun, crafting his very own themed snowman. Though it may look innocent on the outside, I'm sure on the inside there's quite a bit of explosives and Joker cards just waiting to be released. A very interesting build by Sad Brick.

Nathaniel Stoner

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever. 

     My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here. 

Slick Sleigh

Of course, Santa is not complete without his elegant sleigh to carry presents to children around the world! The month of December is also never complete without several Christmas sleigh designs. This one in particular, built by BrickinNick, reminds me of the one we see in The Polar Express film. This sleigh is elegant, but also looks solid enough to hold the weight of those gifts (plus some milks and cookies, I'm sure). The only thing missing here are some reindeer. Perhaps it's dinner time for them?

Build to Give!

As the holiday season is approaching, we are reminded that this is a time of giving and being with those who are important to us. LEGO itself is promoting Build to Give, a way that people around the world can help give LEGO to children. Partnering with UK based charity organization, LEGO reports that: "The team at Fairy Bricks aim to visit over 100 hospitals throughout the UK and their army of elf-like helpers will be on hand delivering the LEGO gifts to the thousands of children who will be spending this Christmas in hospitals."

How can you get involved? Well, LEGO itself is hosting several events at select locations where people can help support the cause. By creating and sharing a holiday decoration build, LEGO will donate additional LEGO sets to children in need this holiday season. (Check out LEGO's official Facebook post to see a list of events, and additional information.) If you aren't able to attend anything in person, no problem! Create something at home and share it with LEGO using the hashtag #buildtogive! It's things like this that make us honored to be a part of the LEGO community. Spread the word and help give to those in need of holiday spirit!

Ornaments to Help Decorate Your Tree

There are always great Christmas tree ornaments built each year. This batch by LEGO 7 are some of the first we've seen for this season. The designs showcased below have a very playful design to them, almost as if they were specifically designed as children's ornaments (which they absolutely could have been). That's face it, there were always "those ornaments" that we couldn't hang on the tree as kids because they were more fragile, right? Well, now it's time for you to build your own ornaments that nobody else is allowed to hang proudly on the Christmas tree! If these don't inspire you to start designing some of your own, I don't know what will!

Holiday Remix

LEGO 7 has taken three Christmas characters and has redesigned them in a crazy, remixed style.  My favorite (even though I like them all respectively) is the elf on the left.  His colors and design just really blend well together, while keeping an insane style.  Santa, on the other hand, might scare a few kids who are waiting eagerly by their home fireplaces.  Rudolph seems to possibly be wearing an "ugly" Christmas sweater?  And he's definitely got some bling on those antlers.  Never be afraid to have some serious fun with your creations.  Merry Christmas, everyone!

LEGO Christmas Projects!

It's that time of year again, gang!  Time to dust off the old fruit cake and polish your Christmas balls.  But what do you take to all of those parties or gift exchanges?  Especially if you actually like the people you're going to see?  Well, our pal Chris McVeigh has an answer for that yearly dilemma-- Custom Christmas Ornaments!  From mini arcades to snow flakes, Chris has been creating these DIY projects for several years.

Another option is a Secret Santa gift exchange.  We've been doing this for a few years in VLUG (Virtual LEGO Users Group) on MocPages.  Larger in scale and more personalized than the ornaments, Secret Santa builds are a great excuse to get away from your usual style or interests.  I never thought I'd build a Filipino Parol out of Explorien pieces, but it seemed like a good idea when I drew Master Shifu's name out of the virtual hat. And I know he didn't see that coming!

It's also an opportunity to poke fun at your friends, like the gift I got from my buddy Hans Dendauw a couple of years ago.  You see, I'm a dentist, and I like to build Battlestar Galactica stuff.  Yeah, that's Hermey.  I laugh every time I look at it.  Thanks, Hans! 

Okay, I know, giving away LEGO is one of those things.  It's difficult.  It took me a while.  But once you do it, and see the reaction that follows, it's a lot of fun.   Plus it means you don't have to go out and fight the crowds shopping!
