Any fan of hot rods or 60's-70's counterculture knows this face, it's Big Daddy Roth's Rat Fink! I built a lot of Revell model kits when I was a kid, and my favorites were Big Daddy Roth kits. This version by rabidnovaracer pretty much nails him, I especially love the inclusion of his ever-present swarm of flies, brilliant!
Builder tkh / ieyasu has added to this already impressive group of super heroes with the addition of Batman and Green Lantern. I'd say now they're ready to take on just about any challenge. I like how the basic structure is the same on these figs but each is totally unique, and awesome.
This banquet scene is from the upcoming book Build Your Own LEGO Knights Realm. And if this single image is any indication, it's going to be a fantastic book. There's so much detail here you can stare at this image for ages and keep spotting new things. My favorite detail is the candelabra on the main table, great use of the handcuffs part.
No, this isn't the most elaborate MOC, in fact, it's pretty simple. But it's got a lot of heart and a ton of charm, and it happens to be inspired by two of the greatest characters ever to grace the funny pages, Calvin & Hobbs. It's amazing how the assembly of a few dozen small plastic pieces can give you a warm fuzzy feeling, nice one Dodge.
You don't see very many SHIPS (seriously heavy investment in parts) on this blog. It's not that I have anything against them, I just generally find them a bit ho-hum. Size does not equal impressive in my opinion. But when it comes to design, that's where you'll get my attention. And this MOC by KingBrick is off the charts. The color combinations, the contouring and levels of detail, the overall proportions and form factor are just stunning. I want to see it in a movie, now!
It's MOCs like these that make me sad I can't get to the east coast LEGO conventions. This wonderfully whimsical diorama by CaptainInfinity is chock-full-o steampunky goodness. There's a lot going on here, unfortunately there's no other pictures so you're going to have to click through and check out the giant version of this pic.
I'm a sucker for a cool micro scale MOC, and this offering from the ever-prolific Karf Oohlu totally caught my eye this morning. I really like the use of flex tubing as connecting passageways between modules. And the texture differences from rough to smooth surfaces is very effective.
Everyone has Guardians of the Galaxy fever right now. It's a fun film with great characters, and this is, in my opinion, the best of all, Rocket. The cybernetically enhanced raccoon is not only the most sarcastic and funniest of the bunch, he also is a complete badass. This version by Sir Nadroj is excellent.
This MOC by vitreolum is inspired by the classic RPG Arcanum. On one side is technology and equipment, the other potions and magic. And what magic indeed, that tentacled creature built from the minifig tentacle legs and Mixel eyes is brilliant. There's lots of detail here, click through for a larger pic.
This MOC by Moko is really cool, but not as cool as the presentation of it. It was a risky move shooting a dark green and black MOC against a very dark background, but this is how it's done. What makes it work is careful lighting. It's the reflections and specular highlights that you're mostly looking at here, and that's the secret of dark model photography. Beautifully done.
This little bundle of awesome is from famed Exo Suit designer and author Pete Reid (Legoloverman) and shows what can be accomplished in a very small package with clever part use. There's so much going on here it's hard to imagine it fits in the palm of your hand. I especially like the use of the welder's mask as a cockpit, inspired.

Pirates once again attacked the church of St. Lucia today. There were no fatalities this time but docent Marcus received quite a knock on the head. We really need to address the issues stemming from the misunderstanding about the steps of the church. How that cartographer misheard "measure of truth" as "treasure of blue" is mind-boggling, but it's been nothing but trouble since. Whatever you can do would be most appreciated.

When you spend every day looking for notable MOCs it gets more and more rare that you say to yourself "that's cool, I've never seen that before". Well it happened this morning when I gazed upon this lovely little blacksmiths house by Simon S. The first thing that caught my attention was the cool purple shingled roof, but then I saw the walls festooned with all manner of armor and I was smitten.
A lot happened when I was 9, many things that shaped me as a person, many things that happened around me. I remember the hype about this mission, recreated quite faithfully here by eldeeem, and watching the launch on the news. Knowing that it has since passed the boundaries of our solar system and is doggedly continuing on it's mission fills me with pride in the US space program. Of course it will come back in the year 2271 as V'Ger and attempt to destroy us, and that's kinda messed up.
This, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. Of course it's a product of the 1920's and of Rolls Royce, and between the aesthetics of the period, and the famous attention to detail of RR, how could it not be utterly stunning. Builder Lino M does it justice in this MOC. Or as the Sultan famously said in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom...
“Rolls-Royce Phantom Two. 4.3 litre, 30 horsepower, six cylinder engine, with Stromberg Downdraft carburetor. Can go from zero to 100 kilometers an hour in 12.5 seconds...And I even like the color.”
The eighties were a great time for visual effects. Computer generated imagery was in it's infancy and unproven so filmmakers relied on clever tricks and careful planning to make unique visuals. Unlike today, where it's just an onslaught of 50 foot robots beating the hell out of each other in polygonal pixel porn. The movie Aliens was a great example of the former, and this MOC by Missing Brick not only pays tribute to the scene and set of the cryotubes, but also the brilliant way it was accomplished, with mirrors.
Comedy Central's @midnight is one of my favorite shows, so I thought I'd build the host Chris Hardwick (Chris Hardbrick?) for no damn reason whatsoever.
I've worked in several warehouse environments before, and they all seem to be about the same. But I can't help thinking that there would be something just a little magical if it was filled with LEGO. Built by TheBrickMan for a departing friend, what an awesome gift!
SyFy is the epicenter of all things ridiculous when it comes to plot devices and preposterous title characters. But how can you accuse them of jumping the shark when they blew them in on a tornado? Well our pals at TBB are having a little contest and things are starting to get interesting. Take for instance this offering from M<0><0>DSWIM, which not only features the main character riding a shark on top of a tornado holding a chainsaw, but it's got forced perspective too!
There's really nothing like the beautiful lines and contours of classic American cars, and builder J0n4th4n D3rk53n has captured them perfectly in this gorgeous 1949 Cadillac. The details are subtle and effortless on this MOC, like the stone guards on the back fenders, and the shaping on the fins. But that front grill...masterpiece.
