When it comes to killing zombies, the right equipment makes all the difference. Take this off-road vehicle by Pixel Fox, it's perfectly equipped for an afternoon slaying brain-eaters, then you can hit the dunes for some serious rompin'.
Back when I was in high school I took graphic arts for three years. Back then we used photochemical processing, typesetting and huge printers like this one by Invicta Bricks. Sure they were mostly endangered processes, but it gave me a good foundation in graphic arts. And seeing this MOC gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.
From Gundam Build Fighters and builder neruneruneranai comes ZAKU Amazing, and amazing it is. The build and pose of this mobile suit are super impressive, but my favorite detail is the launching rockets with variegated contrails, awesome little touch there.
This awesome walker by builder cmaddison looks like the illegitimate love child of ED-209 and a AT-ST (We're assuming the AT-ST is female in this fantasy union). I love the limited use of yellow as a trim color, just enough to make it pop. And the proportions give it an almost juvenile, chibi feel, like it's not fully grown yet.
If we're ever going to truly strike out into the cosmos, we're going to have to overcome a simple problem: humans need gravity. And until some super big brains somehow develop artificial gravity, some other super big brains need to build a vessel like this, with a spinning axis to make sure we don't get muscle atrophy and can properly play ping pong. Builder El Barto has some inspiration here, go big brains go!
As a kid I built plastic model kits, a lot of plastic model kits. Besides planes and cars, I also loved the cool classic monster kits. But my favorites were over-the-top hotrods like this one, the Vanbulance. Builder LinoM has recreated this classic hot rod from 1974, and the results are stunning.
Builder Swan Dutchman pays tribute to a classic LEGO set, 6761 Bandit's Secret Hideout, by recreating it with updated colors, elements and techniques. The final result looks like a modern official set. I really thought I was looking at a leaked image when I saw this, nice work!
Builder Dave Kaleta has been doing a series of autobiographical builds. His latest is his LEGO room where it's quite likely this MOC was built (wrap your head around that). At first glance these almost look like photographs because of the stark lighting and attention to detail. Well, I guess they are photographs, but they're photographs of MOCs... you know what I mean.
This is a MOC with a couple of robot looking guys and a girl with cinnamon buns stuck to her head. Or maybe that's a futuristic trash can? This must be from that Star Trek show or maybe that other one, Starbucks is it? I don't know. The things that show up in movies these days.
Garfield was one of my favorite comic strips growing up. I always appreciated and related to his sarcasm and love of lasagna. Builder LegoJalex has done him and his arch enemy/best friend Odie justice. From the looks of it I'm guessing this pic was taken on a Monday.
As SHIPtember lumbers on some builders are crossing the finish line early. But in this case, it's not about being done quickly, this is about being done awesomely. This SHIP by Rphilo004 is super clean and well designed. For me a hallmark of a fantastic build is an inability to judge scale, and you really need to look close at this vessel to see how big it really is.
This is Kekmor by builder Djokson, he's here to take over the planet and maybe do some probing (but I'm sure he'll be professional about it). There's some really cool part usage and clever construction going on here. It's oozing with character and seems ready to jump off the screen.
Yeah, I could have gone for SyFy, or Comedy Central, but since it's football season and everyone else seems pretty excited by that I thought I'd go all sports and stuff. This MOC by builder legotanks has so many details and a feeling of authenticity that it must be inspired by a real dish. And that attention to detail makes it a very successful build.
It took me a few minutes to wrap my head around these (and to be honest, I'm not sure I truly have yet). Builder Izzo Yossi has created a trio of drones that go to the next level. Each is impressive on it's own, but it also has a companion that is also not only a drone on it's own, but can be attached and worn as accessories to increase capability (yeah, mind blowing). Last week I went to a taping of one of my favorite shows, @midnight. After the taping I met Chris Hardwick and gave him my MOC of him. On last night's show he gave me a huge shout out. That was pretty awesome. If you're in LA and can get to a taping, it's really fun.
This is so freakin' adorable. From builder eldeeem comes the iconic Owly from the book series by Andy Runton. The pose, shapes and spirit of this MOC captures Owly perfectly, you just want to pick him up and hug him.
Builder JonHall18 has taken to the skies again, and as usual the results are stunning. The camo pattern on this craft may seem impossible, but through clever use of dark brown bricks and matching stickers, the effect is not only possible, it's perfect. More pics to follow soon, but I had to share this one in the mean time.
This MOC, inspired by one of my favorite movies of all time, The Empire Strikes Back, make me happy and confused at the same time. Of course anything Star Wars gives me a warm fuzzy, so that explains the happiness. But why Bossk has been seemingly replaced by Han Solo is totally baffling to me. Explain yourself Burglarhobbit.
Update: It turns out part of the contest this was submitted to dictated that you include "yourself" in the MOC. So this is Burglarhobbit, dressed as Han Solo, making a cameo (I'm sure it still confused Vader to no end).
In the future, if we have giant mechs like this one from kwi-chang roaming the battlefield, you can be sure that the ones that are brightly colored were built to kick some serious butt. There is something to be said for camouflage, it keeps you somewhat hidden until you're ready to fight. But then again if you're a twelve stories tall heavily armed bipedal mech, there's really no place to "blend in".
During my time in London I worked in Soho, and from time to time I would pass a small black pump thingy on the sidewalk without giving it a second thought. Then one day I read the plaque on it. It turns out it was the focus of infection in the 1854 Cholera outbreak. Builder peggyjdb recreates this pivotal moment in disease control in his usual informative and brilliant style. Ah to be a Londoner in the 1800's.
