Bike Chassis

/

A tiny motorcycle full of NPU horsepower! Brian Kescenovitz designed this perfect, little bike design. What I like about this bike is the interesting pieces used to solve those difficult connection points. From the use of binoculars to nozzles, even the joysticks used as a kickstand and to attach the grill element on the rear end, and especially the single tread piece used to connect the rear wheel. Brilliant ideas! Nicely executed, Brian.

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

Indy on a Journey

This build by Jonas Kramm features some wonderful landscape, organic trees, interesting posing, and a subtle hint of some ruins. I like how Jonas chose to use primarily bright green for the growth along the path, a color choice not seen too often. I must say though, Indy and his companions do not look like they have a comfortable seating arrangement for their long trek. As they cross the small river, there is a leaning tower, hinting at what is beyond the scene that we see. A nice touch. There seems to be a bit of a spike in Indiana Jones creations lately, which is great!

BrickHeadz in Disguise

BrickHeadz have limited opportunities for many details. However, a crossover between LEGO's new series and Transformers proves that you can pack small details into these little character designs. Curtydc designed a Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, including details like the wheels, headlights, and grills of their robotic designs. These are possibly my favorite BrickHeadz figures created by AFOL's. I hope we see more of these BrickHeadz in disguise soon!

A Throne Fit for a Hellish King

Deus Otiosus crafted this scary looking throne. It looks very strong, probably because of its backbone. The builder did an excellent job incorporating many bone elements, keeping it organic and scary appearing throughout the design. (I especially like the curves of the sides.) A wonderful use of many curved white tooth/tail pieces to make sure it never appears to have a straight angle. It might not the most comfortable to sit on, but surely it strikes fear into the hearts of the ruler's subjects.

Animals Have the Podium

Takamichi Irie's tiny animals are making a large impression on many LEGO enthusiasts. When building your own animals, it is no easy task. The smaller you make the creatures, the less detail they have, and they look less organic. Now, some of these may not be scaled for minifigures, but if you went much smaller with these organisms, they wouldn't be nearly as cool. Which is your favorite?! Mine has got to be that rooster.

Horse Drawn Trolly In The Happiest Place On Earth

It's one of the first things you see when you enter the Magic Kingdom, a dinging bell, the clomping of a draft horse and the bright shining faces of those aboard the trolly. These rides have been operating since 1955 and have carried countless passengers over the years. This version by builder TJJohn12 captures the look perfectly, and that's Danny pulling the car if I'm not mistaken. The augmented horse figure and bridle are absolutely brilliant.

Use Your Tiny Harpoons and Tow Cables

This is by far the best small-scale AT-AT I have seen in LEGO form! Thanks to MIro Dudas, we instantly recognize this iconic scene and vehicle from The Empire Strikes Back. This model is so incredibly accurate, if I happen let my eyes go out of focus, it doesn't even appear to be LEGO. It also appears that the midsection could be easily switched out with orange elements to remake this as an AT-ACT (though there are other differences between the two variants). I appreciate that Miro even included the walker's footprints in the snow, a detail others leave out of their scenes. Nicely done!

Matrix of Leadership

I remember watching the classic show The Transformers (Generation 1) when I was a little kid, and later to watch the more recent adaptations like Transformers Animated. Though I may not be the biggest fan of Michael Bay's movie versions, I'll still always be a Transformers fan. This post is a bit nostalgic for me. Alex Jones has been working on many LEGO Transformers projects, including this recreation of the Matrix of Leadership. The device itself may be very accurate, but that complete LEGO background is what really drew me to this creation. I instantly recognized the theme from the classic show. Wonderful work, Alex!

A Builder's Bodyguard

Djokson continues to produce wonderfully crafted figures by combining system elements and buildable figure systems. How does he do it?! This figure, the Crimson Crusher, is obviously ready for a fight. The body and especially the head are very sleek, but those large hands are my favorite part, using those nice joint pieces to create finger/glove texturing. This guy could easily fit into the film Real Steel.

Classic Space Robots are Helpful

These robots, inspired by the classic and well-loved Space theme, are always willing to lend a helping...claw? GolPlaysWithLego built these very friendly looking robots earlier this week. Not only do they have a unique style of legs and bodies, but they look quite efficient and in good condition. I'd be okay with these bots working on my spaceship, would you?

Bring Your Exotic Car Dreams, And Your Wallet

This first picture might just fool you into thinking you're looking at a real Ferrari dealership, the second picture will leave you impressed with the sheer scale of this build, both will make you hungry for Italian. This dealership by builder rjl458 is the culmination of four years of work, and it shows. The attention to detail is so good I feel like any second someone's going to walk up to me and offer a test drive, to a car I could never afford.

There's no description on these charming images by builder manufacturajarema, so it's been up to me to interpret what I see (a dangerous proposition sometimes). What I see is me, or at least someone like me, an AFOL. This looks like an AFOL residing over his table at an event, proudly displaying his work to the public (and waiting for the next event, let's say blind build).

So, how's the weather where you are? If it's a gorgeous day, sunny with mild temperatures and little wind you might have this lady to thank. This is Cielan, Goddess of skies, clouds, weathers and all things aerial according to builder Pate-keetongu. She's colorful, charismatic, and let's face it, sexy. And the use of the vahki crests for her hair just adds evidence to my arguement that there are no "useless" pieces, just those that lack the imagination to implement them.

Hey! Listen!

Here he is, in one of his most groundbreaking and phenomenal forms, Link from Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. The Zelda series had been quite successful on NES, but nothing prepared us for just how awesome Ocarina was. Builder Julius von Brunk brings us this version of young Link, armed with his Deku shield and what looks to be the Kokiri sword. He looks totally ready for action, and I'm totally ready to play.

A Demon from the Dark

Another LEGO Balrog has emerged from the dark, this time created by fan Jonas Kramm. Easily one of the most iconic, dark creatures that was created by J.R.R. Tolkien and brought to an audience's eyes by the films. This creature seems to have a large presence in this photo, even though it's not quite appropriately scaled for LEGO's minifigure versions of the Fellowship. To make it even more evil, Jonas added a light brick in order to light up this demon's back. Truly a terrifying appearance!

Hey Arnold!

Hey Arnold never got much traction in this house. I remember it being on from time to time, but it always seemed to be because we had finished watching something else, like Samurai Jack Or Rug Rats, and had just no bothered to turn off the TV when we settled down with a Tamagotchi or some other distraction. That doesn't mean I didn't recognize this fantastic build of the title character by Julius von Brunk instantly, it's pretty much perfect.

Iron Giant

If you haven't seen it, you must. The Iron Giant is one of the most underrated animated features ever produced. It sort of flew under the radar when it was released, but has grown a loyal following ever since. Builder Obedient Machine is clearly a fan, and has built this charming tribute. But he didn't build just one, he and his son both built one together, that's pretty awesome.

He Said Welcome To The Frickin' Guardians Of The Republic

BrickinNick celebrates both May the 4th AND the release of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. Here we have a brick-built Grewbacca and Rocket Solo. It's a crossover that does not look strange in the slightest, actually. I think it works well, especially Grewbacca. I'm not sure why, but I also really like how the iconic weapons are designed. This is most certainly a crossover I'd watch in an instant.
