Don't Mess With The Bunny...

I'm not sure if she's about to lead an Easter Egg hunt, or an attack on a Rebel outpost.  Either way, gotta love this nerdly mix of Star Wars and the festive Spring holiday by InkBlotPhoto!  The depth of field, in addition to the pop of hot pink, makes for a great example of macro photography.  And you have to imagine the WTF expression under the helmet of that middle Stormtrooper.  So Happy Easter, to you here on Earth, and in galaxies far far away!

(Epic) Sea Battle

The battle about to take place here looks a little one sided, the ship on the right is a full two studs longer than the one on the left. Micro scale seafaring battle has never looked better than this tiny but awesome MOC by builder gid617. I especially like the ship on the right, with the use of minifig hands for flags and the varying angles on the sails. It might not be strictly "legal" building, but when it looks this cool I don't care.

"Pick-A-Model" sets now at LEGO Stores

AFOLs and others who walked into their local LEGO Store on April 1 were treated to a neat surprise on the Pick-A-Brick wall: new elements previously not available through PAB, including 1x1 round decorated "eye" tiles, 1x2 yellow "cheese" slopes, and much more. But don't grab a large cup and start to fill it just yet.

It's all part of the new "Pick-A-Model" line, in which you can create two models -- a plane or a couple of giraffes -- in the vein of their successful Build Your Own Minifigure offering.

"Eye" see what you did there, LEGO.

"Eye" see what you did there, LEGO.

One caveat for those tempted to stock up on these elements: they are really geared toward the Pick-A-Model sets, so you won't be able to fill your PAB cups to the brim with them: I'm told that LEGO Brand Retail employees will dutifully uphold this policy.  Pick-A-Model sets will also change on a quarterly basis, which could mean more different elements coming to the PAB walls.  That's always good news!

Each Pick-A-Model set will cost you $4.99, which seems a bit steep (the plane, for example, only has 24 pieces) and comes with a handy case which happens to hold exactly the number of pieces you need to build the set.  But the availability of the new elements alone might make these worth it.

Alternate! Alternate! ALTERNATE!

Check out this alt-build for Benny's Spaceship: Asimov I Starship, by Piotr Turecki.  The ship has some nifty design features such as a detachable bow module.  Plus everybody fits inside (Kitty's in the cargo bay).  But what really jumps out is the photo editing-Stunning!  I'll have to imagine an effect like that the next time I swoosh one of MY ships around the living room.  Awesome!

New Feature On BrickNerd - Ask A Sloth!

Oooh howdy-do my normally paced friends!

It's been far too long that we haven't had a small woodland creature answering questions here on BrickNerd so we're announcing a new feature, Ask a Sloth! Just write in, stop us on the street or carve your question into a plank of wood and ship it to us and we'll get it answered lickity split. First a little about me...

I'm a sloth.

Enough about me let's answer those burning questions out there!!!

I like Megabloks, how come you never cover Megabloks?

Really? You have to ask that question? Back to the back of the line...next!

Is it true you guys and the Brothers Bricks guys once got in a street fight?

Pursuant to the terms of the settlement I cannot comment on that, but I do have a really cool scar (chicks dig scars right?)

Are you really a sloth? I thought sloths were slow moving, dim witted animals with...oh yeah, I see it now.

That's not a question.

Can I have a badge brick?

Sure, come to BrickMagic next month, we'll have a bunch.

Is it true Tommy works on movies?

Yes, why is that so hard to believe? Perhaps if you knew he worked on The Barney Movie and The Boneyard it's a little easier? Did you know he played the clouds in Cabin Boy? (true story)

This is stupid

That's not a question either, what's with you people?

I heard Nerdly was once an FBI field agent, is that true?

Nerdly likes to exaggerate, he was once a paper weight in an office that had an FBI visitor once...once.

It's been three months since the last episode on YouTube, what gives? And where's the sequel to Batman vs Superman?

Tommy spent January and February down in Los Angeles working on Fast & Furious 7, and has spent the last month moving to a new studio and building a new set. A new episode is in the works very soon. Principal photography has started on the sequel to BvS, we're working as fast as we can, really!

Can I have a cookie?

No.

LEGO Computer

Computers are pretty nerdy, LEGO is pretty nerdy and Mike Schropp is pretty nerdy (my kind of geek!) He has brought his considerable customizing and fabricating skill to build one of the coolest custom-built computers I've ever seen. And it sports some impressive specs too, this isn't some crippled system that put form over function. He shared the whole process on his excellent website Total Geekdom.

Queen Of The Damned

As a kid, one of my absolute favorite series of video games was Armored Core. It offered a seemingly infinite variety of mecha parts to build your own from scratch, and outfit it as necessary for the battle at hand. I think I spent more time designing mecha than actually playing the game. Builder CCY has manufactured this glorious version named AALIYAH, and it is simply divine. Make sure to browse the entire photo set, as the builder has gone the extra mile by building all sorts of extra boosters, weapons, and add-ons to customize this agile and deadly beast.

Tintin Moon Tank

Although Tintin is typically known for his terrestrial adventures he has taken a trip to the moon from time to time. The most significant adventures appear in 1953 and 1954 when fascination in space was at an all time high throughout the world. And what is cooler than trolling around on the moon? Trolling around the moon in a tank of course! This reproduction of Tintin's famous tank from builder Tyler is very true to the original from the comics. Tyler uses many excellent building techniques and details in the reproduction including Titin's dog Snowy in one of the tanks front pods.

This Is How You End Iron Builder

This was yet another epic round of Iron Builder. Once again I'm floored by the creativity and ingenuity of the builders. And as if the flood of MOCs that somehow incorporated that infernal pitchfork part wasn't enough, builder 6kyubi6 ends this round with a stop motion animation inspired by Jon Rolph's "Paint. A Short Lego Film". Well played sir.

Baserunner MRK-02

This is an impressive beast from builder curtydc. The scale and styling alone would be enough to make you go "whoa", not to mention all the support vehicles that accompany this massive vehicle, but add to that it's remote controlled and "whoa" just doesn't seem to cut it. Take a look at these stats...

- Six 118mm RC4WD Interco IROK 1.9 Scale Tires
- Two XL motors power the 6 wheel drive powertrain
- Two M motors power the 6 wheel steering
- Fully Independent Suspension with 12 Shock Absorbers (2 per wheel)
- Two Battery Boxes
- Two IR Recievers
- One Control Switch
- Lots of rubber bands, a couple feet of extension wires, and a lot of blue bricks.

Welcome Nerdist Podcast Listeners!

I'm totally stoked to get a mentioned on my favorite podcast! Welcome to my humble little website, here you'll find tons of fantastic creations from LEGO artists and enthusiasts all over the planet. You can also check out my mostly terrible YouTube channel and use these links to find me being semi-social and mostly not funny.

POINTS!

Oh, and here's my most popular video, my interpretation of the coming battle between Batman and Superman.

Seuss Army Knife

Any Cub Scout will tell you that "be prepared" is the Scout motto. Ever since I was a neckerchiefed little snot nose I've had assorted multi-tools and knives-of-many-blades. But none have been as cool as this MOC by vitreolum. You just never know when you'll need a boxing glove or a bubble gun, and with a Seuss Army Knife in your pocket, you'll be prepared.
