Those fine humans at Twomorrows and BrickJournal have a sale on to coincide with BrickMagic (which I will be attending, guess I should pack) Now through monday save 40% off all back issues and their books. Now's the time to fill those gaps in the collection!
He is the stuff of legends. Think about it, Boba Fett has been tantalizing us since 1979. First we mailed away to get a figure, just to discover his rocket didn't shoot. Then he became our favorite character with only a couple of lines and brief scenes. Then he was dispatched unceremoniously in the sarlaac pit in Jedi, only to have supposedly escaped in the expanded universe. Then his origin was revealed and his voice changed, what the heck? Regardless, he's still a badass, and everyone loves him, especially builder nobu_tary, who created this awesome MOC.
Yes, this is an awesome model of the bike from the classic anime movie. But what's even MORE awesomer is the fact that it actually works. Yeah, that's right, builder Sariel rigged with power functions! Check out the video highlighting all of the features. Just couldn't believe he let the hamster drive it...
I grew up on Godzilla movies and Toho classics. Where I live we had a thing called the Saturday Morning Film Festival, and while they tended to play movies I wasn't really interested in most of the time (and WAY too much Popeye), every once in a while we'd get treated to some Tokyo stompin' action. So I have an affinity to this big green lizard. And as if this version by legorobo:waka wasn't mind-blowing enough, it also walks, opens his mouth and moves his eyes! Be sure to check out the video below for all the action and a cameo by Mothra.
From the combined creative minds of Phillip K. Dick, Ridley Scott, Greg Jein and Syd Mead and now LEGOLIZE IT MAN comes one of the most iconic and beloved sic-fi vehicles of all time, the Spinner from Bladerunner. Like it's movie model counterpart this one lights up
What better way to celebrate May the Forth than watching a couple of nerds play with LEGO and say stupid things? We're building the Red Five X-Wing Starfighter live starting at 12 noon PST. Join us in the Google+ Hangout!
Yup, it's May the 4th, and Star Wars nerds the world over are celebrating. It makes my geek heart soar that we've all banded together to make this a thing. This isn't Hallmark selling cards, this isn't Walmart selling cheap hats and party blowers, it isn't even Lucasfilm and Disney cashing in. It's fans, like me, just saying "I love Star Wars" in as many ways as they possibly can. This cheese wedge mosaic by hilaryleung is clever and awesome.
Tomorrow is Star Wars Day, and we're going to celebrate by building Luke Skywalker's X-Wing starfighter live! Join me and my guest James Morr at 12 noon PST. It's going to be guaranteed 12-17% more exciting than waiting in line for Star Tours (well, at least the outdoors queue) See you tomorrow!
As we settle in for Star Wars Day Eve (that's a thing, isn't it?) I take a random glance at my Flickr feed and was delighted to discover this, the Friends Star from pricey73! It seems to be the absolute polar opposite of it's Imperial counterpart in all ways with the exception of shape. But really, who would build a giant space station that's shaped like a cube?
If you haven't seen it, Tremors is an awesome movie. It has wit, sarcasm, humor, drama, gritty filmmaking and of course giant subterranean bloodthirsty monsters. Oh, and Kevin Bacon is in it, and everything's better with bacon. In this scene, brilliantly recreated in micro scale by Grantmasters, our cast discovers that there's something very odd going on, and strange creatures are possibly behind it.
Brace yourselves, it's time for another round of Iron Builder. This competition is between two amazing builders, KOS brick and Gilcélio, and it's going to be a good one. Both contestants were quick to the MOCs, and already have the first ones done using the seed part of a 2x2 dark blue dome. It's going to be an interesting month.
Oh chibi form factor, is there anything you can't make cute? This adorable chibi bantha from vitreolum is a little early for Star Wars day, but I'm not complaining. As far as I'm concerned the entire month of May is international Star Wars month. So how are you celebrating?
Obedient Machine is back with another brilliant micro weapon build. This time it's Deckard's gun from Bladerunner, with just eleven parts! I've always wanted this prop. I love the design and it's functional yet futuristic aesthetic, as well as the dual triggers. Plus who doesn't want to chase replicants off world?
I realize that cinematic lighting isn't appropriate for photographing most MOCs, but when it is, this is how it's done. LEGOMINDED perfectly sets the mood in this dark and dank place using a principal of lighting that is often overlooked, negative space. Sometimes what you don't see is just as, if not more, important than what you do see. Can't you hear the sporadic water drips, the faint hiss of steam from a nearby boiler, the white noise of the pipes overhead, the scurry of an unseen rodent. This is how you set a mood.
This sword wielding lovely comes to us from builder pb0012. Once again I have no idea where she's from or have any knowledge of what she does. All I do know is I like her style and building a fully posable figure wearing a skirt is no small feat. Click through for many more poses and pictures
Nintendo fans of Metroid should recognize this badass beauty. It's spherically morphing heroine Samus. This is actually a rework of an older MOC by builder Pate-keetongu, and she looks better than ever. The free flowing style and pose-ability of this figure are stunning. You can read more about her and see more pics on his blog.
Just over a year ago BrickNerd Studios completed work doing a load of animation (a lot of which is in this trailer!) for Beyond The Brick, a LEGO Brickumentary. I'm happy to see it's finally coming out soon. Check out the trailer!
Hey builders, you're running out of time to enter the Next Level Nerdly contest. Summer is almost here, and that means theme park season. You all know what a Disney geek I am, and I'll be there several times in the next few months, but if this place existed, I would visit it too. Welcome to Never Never Land, a wondrous park dreamed up by builder Keith Reed. It's got everything I love in a park, from fun rides and amazing attractions, to stunning decor and a stunt show! I think it would be right at home in Disneyland, and I would be there in a heartbeat.
