Fun Facts About The Parakeet

• The parakeet is the most commonly kept bird in the world.
• Parakeets have as many as 3,000 feathers on their bodies.
• While they cannot speak like some other breeds, they can write.
• When angered they can grow 600% and shoot flames from their eyes.
• They don't "fly south for the winter" but most own a time share in Florida.
• They're droppings can be used as an improvised explosive.
• While you can name anything you want, they are all actually named Roderick.
• When built in LEGO by AnAnctionfigure they get blogged.

Long Haul

This is pretty cool. Fans of the sci-fi horror classic Alien should recognize this famous ship, but a good many are probably slightly wrong about what they're calling it. Most fans will identify this as the Nostromo, but they are only partly right. The Nostromo is actually a pretty small ship in comparison of the refinery it's towing. It's just the tip of the triangular portion at the front. Even at micro scale, this is a fairly large MOC by Grantmasters.

You Can Build This Awesome Y-Wing

What's better than a kickass Star Wars MOC? A kickass Star Wars MOC with instructions that's what! This beast of a Y-Wing packs an incredible amount of accurate detail into a UCS scale ship, it's practically camera ready. Marker! *thwack!*

There was no way I wasn't going to blog this. Since the invention of "talkies" filmmakers have needed a way to synchronize picture to sound, since generally they are recorded separately. There have been a number of ways of doing this, and several technological advances through the years, but when it comes down to it, nothing beats a good old classic clapboard. Nice build Cole.

Puppet And Puppeteer

I won't begin to say that I understand the mythos and story behind these MOCs, I'm sure there's plenty going on here in that respect, but I haven't had enough tea or sleep. I will say when builder A Plastic Infinity posted Turaga Retei-atomn last week I was confused by the floating chains. But now it's clear, and pretty cool. What really caught my attention was there's a miniature of the first character in the second MOC, that's pretty genius.

Belle And Beast Dance

Ah, a little bit of Disney magic for us. Builder Amida Na has crafted a beautiful and functional music box featuring Belle and Beast dancing. Cogsworth, Lumiere and Mrs. Potts have turned up to watch as well. It's all in a fantastic enclosure with fitting details like the enchanted rose. Check out the video to see it in action. 

Machine N°5

Vince Toulouse has created another striking machine.  You may recall his Polar Transport a while back, this time he's built a bullet train.  It's a fine example of the obscure genre dieselpunk, in fact one of the finest ever built.  This thing is awesome, with bold colors, loads of interesting details, and a fair number of elements I don't think I've seen before.  And those fins made form the mars rover panels are excellent.  The open cockpit on the top is a great idea, too.  Check it out!

Red, blue, red, red, yellow, green, blue, red, blue... In the early 80's electronic gaming was huge. And between this device, Electronic Football and Merlin the future was clear, electronic gaming was here to stay. Sure the beginnings were crude, just flashing lights and buzzing (practically neolithic by todays standards) but we LOVED them. Thanks for the dose of nostalgia jtheels.

Grand Prix Auto Services

Check out this retro gas station by Andrew Tate.  It's modeled after the American/Art Deco style of the 1930's-40's.  But you may notice the car and the scooter, which implies that this scene is set in the 50's (according to the builder).  He's got all the details, from the checkered flag accents, to the little oil can display.  Nicely done, Andrew!

Battlestar Menoetius

Like builder Tim C76 I grew up watching sci-fi. After Star Wars erupted on the scene all the studios and every TV network scrambled to get in on some of that hype. As a result we were flooded with the likes of Buck Rogers, Laserblast, Battle Beyond The Stars and Battlestar Galactica. I did watch BG, mostly just to see space battles, and Daggett, I loved Daggett. This excellent interpretation of a Battlestar is inspired by both the classic series and the reboot, and in my opinion melds the best both had to offer.

Another muggy morning at the port. You've got all the standard fare, a thriving bazaar, active trade, military presence...oh and a ship on fire. I hope you're in a comfortable seat dear reader, because it's going to take you a while to study these and more photos of this stunning diorama by Mattiusxavier.

Hatched

Well these little dudes are in a heap of trouble. It turns out the eggs they found in a keep not that long ago have hatched, and some rather unique dragons have emerged. Or at least that's sort of the story, I find it difficult to keep up with all the castle lore you abundantly creative miscreants weave. But I don't find it difficult to admire a cool build, and these dragons are unlike any I've ever seen, almost feathered in appearance. Awesome stuff 'Ecclesiastes. 

Building WALL-E Tomorrow!

Corsair

The Corsair is one of my favorite WWII fighters. Which, now that I write that, seems an odd thing to say. I'm sure being a fan of Baa Baa Black Sheep when I was a kid factors in, but declaring "this is one of my favorite machines of war" does seem like a strange utterance. I am a bit of an aviation buff though, and gull wing design has always appealed to my aesthetic sensibilities. This smartly crafted MOC by Sydag hits all the right notes of proportion, contour and color, it's lovely.

Brick Buddies

When I attended Brick Magic I saw these in person and loved them. I contented myself for several minutes, maybe more than I remember, just staring at them all and trying to identify who they were. Well, builder jtheels has made it easy by putting the names on them, but they're still fascinating to look at (and I still haven't figured out who's standing next to Mr. Krabs). Rhen Var Offensive

Check out this frosty diorama by Markus19840420 depicting a staging area on Rhen Var.  It will be on display at the Star Wars convention in Nürnberg, Germany, this weekend.  Markus is also hinting at a much larger project he's working on with "AT-AT`s, many, many imperial trooper and a big Rebel hangar with many ships."  Can't wait to see it!

Skydent Fighter

I was in the mood for some Neo Classic Space goodness this morning, luckily Horcik Designs was there to hook me up. This fighter has a pretty nice balance of greebles and classic inspiration. It sorta reminds me of a Jedi Starfighter (one of the few prequel ships I actually like) with a taste of good old 497.

Toss Across

Just last night my wife and I were talking about toys from our childhood. Though I should point out the discussion started about the most dangerous toys (we actually had lawn darts, amazing) soon the conversation drifted to toys in general. I had Toss Across as a kid, and seeing this brilliant recreation by jtheels brought back a lot of memories. Mostly of how we used to wet the bean bags and put them on a lightbulb to cook the beans, it smelled oddly appetizing.
